wendy rieger, news 4 washington. as of about a half hour ago, 946 cats and dogs had been adopted today from shelters around the region. and if you can't get out today there will always be more animals in need of a home tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that. for details visit our web page and search clear the shelters. a great day. a small, but hard-working group of volunteers did battle with graffiti on lower georgia avenue. the neighbors and business owners on the street near v street say graffiti is a major problem that reduces property value and increases criminal activity so they brought paint to paint over the graffiti on the walls and cleaning solutions that destroys it on our surfaces. the equipment they used was donated so after today's event was over volunteers could carry on the battle to other areas. a great day for all these things to happen because the weather was absolutely beautiful. >> it was gorgeous. the humidity was low.
6:17 pm
we did hit 90 degrees. we're into our heat wave now and -- >> doesn't really feel it because of the humidity. >> it was really comfortable outside and for the most part if you like today you're really going to like tomorrow. just a touch warmer and a bit more humid. that's kind of splitting hairs. it's going to be a nearly perfect summer day for your sunday. we're talking about at least a six-day heat wave and looks like the humidity will be the worst tuesday, wednesday and thursday. as it gets towards the end of the upcoming work week a little uncertainty in the forecast and it's all about a cold front. i will have more on that when i show you the seven day. tomorrow the weather having a low impact on your day. plenty of sun once again, it's hot and a little bit humid. currently temperatures are in the 80s and 90s. 91 in frederick, 87 in washington by the water, more comfortable there, 82 degrees right now in annapolis and a beautiful evening no matter what your plans are firing up the grill, walking the dog or cat. 9:00 -- maybe not walking the cat. maybe some do that. 9:00, temperature of 81 degrees.
6:18 pm
by midnight around 76. pretty dry air in place. it's going to be comfortable overnight. suburbs will dip into the 60s. washington will cool into the low 70s. so by 8:00 a.m. a temperature around 74. nice again for that morning walk, jog or bicycle ride. 11:00 a.m., plenty of sun, mid 80s. as we work our way into the afternoon and early evening hours we'll find temperatures in the low to mid 90s. maybe an isolated storm tomorrow afternoon, but that's only going to be over the mountains west of i-81. elsewhere is dry. we'll hit our high in washington at about 94 at about 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. to see the high temperature in your area check out my twitter and facebook pages and i have more on el nino there. talking about the humidity forecast, tomorrow slightly uncomfortable. notice, though, as we work our way toward monday, humidity will increase. starts to feel a little bit sticky outside. by tuesday, wednesday and thursday it is feeling oppressive. we're talking about feels like temperatures around 100 degrees.
6:19 pm
great time to hit the pool tomorrow, monday and tuesday. of course you'll need the sunscreen just about every day. tuesday about a 30% chance but that's of a late day shower or thunderstorm so going to the pool around the midday afternoon hours it's looking fine. a high on monday of 95 degrees, tuesday high of 92. wednesday 93. so here's the situation with the cold front. this cold front may fizzle out. if that happens looks like temperatures will continue to be around 90 through next saturday with little storm chances and that's what i'm forecasting right now. however there is the chance that this cold front kind of sits right around our area bringing us plenty of clouds, humid conditions and cooler conditions thursday friday and saturday. i will get new information this evening and have the updates coming up on news 4 at 11:00 and update twitter and facebook throughout the evening as the new updates become available. bottom line, erica, tomorrow another nice day. and for the most part, big focus on humidity tuesday, wednesday and thursday. >> all right. thanks, amelia. kids, summer is almost over.
6:20 pm

predicament with a shortage of healthy tight ends. thursday we learned the skins lost niles with a season-ending ankle injury and today a decision on logan paulson. as feared he is joining paul on the sideline for the entire season. head coach gruden confirmed that paulson like paul will miss all of the season. paulson has been dealing with turf toe and has surgery scheduled for monday. it's now the position who to watch at training camp for the losses creating opportunities. i have good news, jordan reed, bothered by a hamstring injury hopes to play thursday against detroit. and it's getting better. another sign of better health junior gillette recovering from a torn peck, painful to say, limited to individual and position work, but today, practiced in team drills. he's hoping to play in the team's third preseason became when they visit for the ravens and for gillette who opted against surgery that decision led to this day.
6:25 pm
>> if i had the surgery it would have been five months program, basically start over, and that wouldn't have been good for where i'm at right now. the decision i am today god bless me i'm healthy. get the cardio back and being with the guys i just love football. it's a great feeling. >> he's an exciting player, brings a different type of burst of energy to that defense and see it in one on one drills. we had to get him ready and make sure he's healthy, knows the defense and when he's ready he'll be ready. >> we're ready for this. not the only thing happening in richmond, all the injury talk, team hosted fan appreciation days. fans getting up close with some of their favorite players. hope there were free balloons. one fan got an unexpected ride from steven pya. 7,000 fans made the trip to skins training camp. a jump in attendance from more than 20,000 -- decrease in attendance from 25,000 fans who

made it down last year. all right. i know nats fans are feeling like shouting may-day and maybe gio gonzalez will answer the distress signal when he starts against the giants. he's 5-0 in his last eight starts and trying to prevent the nates from slipping to .500 since the day in may, may 8th, when they were 15-15. as the nats have gone down, pitches have been left up. last night matt sure zer, 8-5 lost to the giants, charged with six runs and seven hits. his last three starts scherzer has not made it past the sixth inning. against the rockies, ten strikeouts but gave up three home runs in a loss. >> last couple times out it hasn't been his best. felt like he wasn't throwing it where he wanted to. left balls in the middle of the plate. anybody that does that has a chance to give up some runs. so yeah. he's going to compete, he'll go out next time and hopefully give
