and we will show you what interrupted a sunday evening meal at a montgomery county restaurant. >> gunshots outside a busy rec center and tonight a young man is dead. there were a lot of little kids and families at the bad bury rec center when somebody started shooting. news 4's darcy spencer is live. this to me is incredible that nobody else was injured. >> definitely a close call because there were so many families out here. this is where the shooting happened this afternoon. right here in this parking lot. police wrapped up the investigation here on the scene. just a few minutes ago, they towed away two cars. one belonged to the victim and the second was a white mustang and they are continuing their search for the gunman. >> football scrimmages going on

with the kids and at least 200 people out here. >> this man said that peace was shattered by the sound of shots fired in the parking lot outside the brad bury rec center. >> i was out in the parking lot and gunfire shot. eight shots at least. >> it was 5:30 and the man who does not want to be identified said he was here when it happened. he said he knows the shooter and the victim, both men in their 20s. they were initially walking together. >> they were over here and passing words and he pulled a gun out and shot him. cold blood right there. >> they were interviewing several persons of interest, but no arrests have been made or suspects identified. >> this was an isolated incident and we are hoping that the investigation will tell us more why this person was likely targeted. >> this was the 6th homicide in

prince georges county in a little more than a year. seven shootings and six stabbings. areas meant to be safe places for families. >> you try to talk to the young kids. violence is not the way to resolve the issues. >> anyone with information about the case is asked to call prince george's county police. >> thank you so much. friends and family of an au grad are grieving his loss after he became the unintended target of a shooting in broad daylight. i caught up with some of matt's fraternity brother they said the 23-year-old was on the way to meet another brother outside the station yesterday when bullets began to fly. mike philipps said they held a ceremoniy in a synagogue where he volunteered. he said the abrupt loss has been really hard to handle. >> he ended up being at the

wrong place at the wrong time. a precious life was taken away. there is an increased presence and people in the area at the time of the shooting said he was caught in the crossfire. neighbors met to discuss crime and concerns. >> we thought we were past the point where innocent bystanders might be caught in gunfire, but we have a couple of pockets of areas where we really need to have no tolerance where we end up having gunfire and terrible tragedies like this happened. >> police are looking for the gunman who took off in a burgundy chrysler with maryland tags. >> police in prince george's county released the name of a man who shot and killed someone. brian bell came across a crash on brooks drive and saw a man running from the scene. when he caught up with this man,

the man started struggling with the officer and his gun. manly was shot multiple times and died yesterday morning. police confirm that manly had mental health issues and had suicidal thoughts according to his family. officer bell is on routine administrative leave while the matter is being investigated. new tonight, the people at eddie's carry out have a lot of clean up because a car came crashing through the front window. the restaurant had nobody hurt. no word on how or why the driver lost control of the car. after a fairly comfortable start, tomorrow morning we will warm up with plenty of sunshine. tomorrow looking like the warmest day out of the workweek. here's the morning planner starting with temperatures for the most part around 70.

for donald trump? >> of course. >> and here fair goers are casting their kernels. trump and hillary clinton are at the top of the stack. >> we are tracking the latest on the search for that missing plane in indonesia. late tonight there is word that a search plane spotted the wreckage in a remote part of the island. rescue crews are trying to get there on ground. the airplane went down today. the pilot was trying to hand land at an airport in bad weather. 54 people including two infants were on the plane. an alexandria woman is at the hospital after she crashed her small piper plane into the back yard of a home in bioterroriris. her piper single engine plane lost power and went down in the 9800 block of upper mill loop, but she managed to avoid hitting

>> a member of the army's elite parachute team died in chicago yesterday. he collided with another parachuter in mid-air. as you can see in the video, he crashed into a building before falling into the street. he was identified as sergeant first class cory hood of cincinnati. surgeons tried to save him, but his injuries were too severe. the parachutist he hit from the leapfrog team broke his leg and is expected to recover.

all this happened at chicago's sea and airshow. nearly every single federal firefighter in the united states is on call tonight because more than 100 wildfires are burning out of control out west. leading officials to set the fire alert level at five. that is the highest on the scale. from california to oregon to ohio, scorching acres and acres and acres of land. the national guard was called in to help dump water on fires in washington state, but that couldn't stop a fire from destroying as many as 100 homes. if you have ever been west of the mississippi, this could impact you as one fire destroyed one of the biggest fruit co-ops. that could mean higher fruit prices. >> a leader, hero, icon used to describe julian bond. words don't do justice to the man who dedicated his to justice. as nbc news shows us, his fight

providing care to the teen. >> bad night for fairfax county's water department. first a water main broke, but then two of the trucks sent to fix it fell through the street. are you looking at the pictures? they were half in the street and half in two small sinkholes. the broken main is causing silt to wash into a local pond. incredible. as we start the workweek, humidity is coming back and more hot temperatures. going to start to feel sticky after a nice weekend. >> nice this weekend because it was hot, but the humidity was not so bad. tomorrow it's going to feel a little bit more humid and tuesday, wednesday, and thursday will be muggy. when you factor in the heat and humidity, every day except for friday, it will feel closer to 100 degrees. that's one of the weather headlines and we are talking about a six-day heat wave. the last thing will be on thursday. more comfortable on friday.

metro, you will notice the heat, noticing the humidity by lunch. around 90 degrees and dinnertime at 89. isolated thunderstorm is possible at that point over the mountains west of town. areas like winchester. exercising outdoors, the baltimore metro is under a code orange air quality alert that includes anne arundel and howard counties. more on that on facebook and twitter. children, elderly, if you have heart or lung issues, you want to take it easy tomorrow in those areas. aside from that exercise, you should be okay. one of the days it's a good idea to go early or later. the same with walking the dog. one of the best things tomorrow is the pool. make sure you have sunscreen. talking about the afternoon thunderstorm chances. at 3:00 p.m., the bright color is heavy rain moving through the area with the heat and humidity. downpours are possible later in the day on tuesday. about a 40% chance that you are dealing with rain.
