temperatures out there right now. in fact, temperatures are warming into the mid, possibly upper 80s as we continue through this day. in fact, take a look at the national harbor cam. it is a beautiful day out there. however, it is a little bit on the warm side as we will continue to see these temperatures rise. in fact, we'll will most likely into the mid 90s but it's going to feel warmer than that and he's your capital camera as well. we have clear skies. we could have a little bit of rain chances as we get into this week. we're going to talk about the rain chances coming up in a few minutes and also talk about if we can break the heat wave. we'll show you that coming up in a few minutes. at the live desk, right now crews working a massive fire. take a look at some of the video. this is a business called friendly trucks along akalon road. firefighters have been on the

scene for about two hours. they're doing an extensive overhaul on this building. no word on what started the fire. no one was hurt. hazmat crews also on scene right now. right now this man is on trial for murder. ji prince george's police say it was a robbery gone wrong. the victim died at this hour lawyers are picking a jury. we're told the mother may take the stand later today. >> d.c. police now looking for whoever killed this man who great graduated from american university last week. according to police he was not targeted. he was headed to meet a fraternity brother when he was in the caught in the gunfire. >> if you're down, he's going to

bring you up, and now he ended up being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and a precious life was taken away. >> and you can see right here, someone left a bouquet of flowers at the spot where he died. he was just 23 years old. it was supposed to be a step forward for metro after a couple of rough morning commutes. but the launch of metro's newest 7,000 series rail car did not go as planned. this morning a train broke down at the green belt station before the new rail car could even arrive. we spoke with frustrated riders who are just fed up. >> reporter: just as that new 7,000 series train car was set to roll on the green line, the train in front of it broke down causing delays. they say it was mechanical issues. it didn't take long for monday morning to get off on the wrong foot.

it was around 5:30 when this car broke down. >> this is ridiculous. i have a job to be at. this is crazy. >> the train broken down. and that's it. just get the new one, get the next one coming. >> reporter: metro officials say the next one was supposed to be the new 7,000 series train set to make its debut but 30 minutes after it was supposed to arrive and just as this train was being towed away, the 7,000 series pulls up but then the new excitement was drowned out by frustration. >> i've been through the derailment. this month has been just pathetic. >> reporter: for a lot of riders, it's been one thing after another. when it comes to taking metro, they say it's best to temper expectations. >> it's to different. it's metro. it's always disappointing.

you'll see the amazon ceo out there today because he's reacting to a scathing article about the culture at his company. that article ran in the new york times yesterday. it said the culture at amazon was ultra competitive and harsh. in an internal memo he respo responded. the article doesn't describe the amazon i know or the caring people i work with and our tolerance for any such lack of empathy needs to be zero. >> i want to turn now to sort of a family life story, and there are some new numbers out about baby names. they say a lot of you are finding inspiration in game of thrones. the tv show. the office of national statistics in england say names from the show are all growing in popularity and, in fact, 54 people named their baby kalesi last year. and i'm told that's a title for one of the characters on the

i believe so. temperatures today are going to be into the mid 90s. and i know those kids back at school today probably upset their summer is over. a little bit on the warm side. no rain out there right now on the radar. afternoon highs, a little warm but not only are we dealing with the heat. we're dealing with the humidity. it's going to make it feel warmer. 94 in manassas and we go to around the eastern store, 88 in annapolis. and it is going to be warm. as i said, temperatures will drop as we get into tuesday and wednesday. that's when we'll have rain chances leading into midweek and then it looks like we clear out just in time for the end of the workweek and early into the weekend. >> thank you, lauren. right now crews are fixing two sink holes left behind from a water main break in annandale. chopper 4 here. the fairfax county water

department was not working on the pipes yesterday when the road crumbled under two trucks. nobody was hurt. we're told the pipe has been fixed. it's not clear how long the road repairs will take. right now more than 40 men are walking from wombaltimore t washington. the trip is 35 miles. take a look at what chopper 4 caught above. up in the air, this is a group walking through college park. this is around 7:45 this afternoon. marchers are expected to arrive on the national mall around 2:00 this morning. more than 200 people have been killed in baltimore so far this year. civil rights leader julian bond was one of the strongest voices for justice and equality of our time. the former chairman of the naacp and american university and uva professor passed away this weekend. nbc has more now on bond's life

it is a little on the hazy side. temperatures right now. we've stuck in the 80s. we're going to be stuck in the 90s as we get into the afternoon. 85 is the temperature in d.c. college park coming in at 88. loudoun county up to 90 degrees. well on our way to a warm forecast. not only today but for the rest of this workweek. i do believe we're going to be in the mid 90s today with plenty of sun shine but with the muhammad humidity, close to 100 degrees. the white house just unveiled a new initiative to fight heroin use in the u.s. by speeding up how quickly public health data is shared among agencies. they will track where heroin is coming from, street level sales and where treatment is mostly needed. d.c. and baltimore are among the 15 areas where this program will be tested between 2001 and 2013,

there are reports of a five-fold increase in the number of deaths from heroin each year. a man faces murder charges after police in manhattan say he stabbed his girlfriend to death. the victim is 33-year-old idina heinz, and she is morgan freeman's stepdaughter. freeman spoke hours after the death. he said she had so much to offer that the world would never see. we have a developing story out of prince george's county that we continue to follow. the search for the gunman who targeted a young man outside a busy reck center. >> plus a sad story. the death of a person many considered a real life super hero. a maryland man who dressed as batman to entertain the children. >> and wrapping up red skins training camp.

hit. it seems he was coming home from an appearance in west virginia. he visited sick children at hospitals around the area with lots of different events as well. he was 51 years old. no doubt he will be missed by many. new details right now on a developing story in suitland. we've learned the name of the victim in a shooting that happened there. maryland national cap can tall park police say someone shot j.r. franklin at the recreation center and franklin died. >> came up out of the woods over here, and then had some words, and the dude pulled the gun out and just shot him. cold blood right there. >> so that man tells us he knew the victim and who he believes is the shooter. no one has been arrested so far. he tells us that the men were walking together at the center yesterday and that they started arguing and that one shot the other. that witness told us that hundreds of people, including

many families were using the center at the time. developing in d.c. right now, police are working to find out why someone shot and killed matthew slanski. this happened near the metro station this weekends. according to police, he wasn't targeted. they're now looking for a burgundy chrysler with maryland tags news that shows us how dangerous our roads can be. the number of people who died in accidents this year is way up. as of june, we're at 19,000 deaths. that is an increase of 14%. the report says the better economy and low gas prices have more people on the road. the national safety council president also blames higher speed limits and cell phone distractions for the growing number of accidents. >> search and rescue officials say they have spotted the

wreckage of a missing passenger plane. the air service plane crashed yesterday. 54 people were on board. it's not clear if there are survivo survivors. a post office spokesman over there says the plane was carrying cash worth about $470,000 for people in remote villages. there is no indication that that large amount of money being transported to liked to the crash. the ntsb says four of the people who died in a midair collision were contractors on a military training flight. that is new information since our newscast this morning. a fifth person was also killed with a small single engine plane and a jet crashing into each other as they were about to land. you see there pieces of plane debris scattered around a quarter mile area near an airport in san diego county. right now flights at our area airports are mostly back to

normal after a disastrous weekend. a computer glitch at an air traffic control center in california delayed flights. those delays spilled over to sunday as well. the faa says they fixed the problem but they're looking into what caused the glitch in the first place. it is warm and it is humid out there right now. it's going to be hot and humid as we get into the afternoon. with that heat and humidity combine idea, it'll feel like we're in the lower 100s. we're below that advisory criteria. we're below that threshold but it's going to be warm. mike sure you hydrate. we don't have any rain chances until midweek but humidity will fall toward the end of the workweek. friday specifically. as we go through the afternoon, i said it was going to be hot. temperatures are going to be mid 90s for today. and even though our temperatures

least 114 people, another 70 are still missing. crews are now racing to collect the chemicals housed in the wear house. with storms moving into the region, environmental officials raise concerns that the chemical could release poisonous chemicals into the air. right now the extreme heat is fueling wildfires burning out of control. one of the most dangerous is in eastern washington state. now, because this wildfire is moving so quickly, firefighters still aren't sure how many homes have been lost. here are the current conditions there. >> reporter: this morning in washington state, this is what they face. a fire fight so explosive, the national guard has been called in to h help from the air and on
