this crash here near earnshaw drive. shomari stone just got to the scene. >> reporter: right now, i'm here on highway 5. as you can see, these are the southbound lanes and the cars are going, but on the northbound completely closed. you can see an suv mangled metal. two cars involved in this crash. two people unfortunately died. accident reconstructionists are here right now. the other car we're hearing is in the woods. this car just went right into the trees. two people have died again. police have not released their names, but you have to avoid this area. highly recommended. burch hill road and highway 5. police are still trying to figure out what caused this accident.

avoid this area. news 4. suitland parkway here near naylor road still closed in both directions. it happened around 7:15. at least four people were injured in this accident. one is in critical condition. we have breaking news out west. three firefighters battling those massive wildfires in washington state now confirmed dead. three to four others injured. they were all fighting the twisp river fire in the northeast part of that state. here is video just in from that area. we know at least one of the injured firefighters was flown to seattle in critical condition. the washington governor is urging people to heed the evacuation warnings. now, to the struggle tonight to get a handle on violence here in the district. nearly 100 people gathered tonight for an emotional tribute

bethesda. that's where he ditched the suv. they caught up with him back in d.c. he was in the spring valley neighborhood. tomorrow morning, former president jimmy carter is going to talk publicly for the first time about his cancer diagnosis. last week, carter announced he has cancer that is now in other parts of his body. the diagnosis came after some recent liver surgery. the 90-year-old said he will share more information when he has it. that's tomorrow at a news conference at 10:00 in the morning. shocked and profoundly disappointed, that's how the family of jared fogle feels tonight. the former subway spokesman has admitted to traveling to have sex with minors and having child porn on home computers. >> this is about using wealth, status, and secrecy to illegally

put on that batman costume, he truly became the super hero. the former police officer charged in a shooting death of a man in fairfax county fainted today. prosecutors say torres showed no emotion earlier in court today even after the judge denied him bond. it wasn't until a trial date was set that he fainted, collapsing on the courtroom floor. his trial date is set to begin september 14th. in virginia, a judge will hear arguments in maureen mcdonnell's appeal next month. they are found guilty of doing favors for a nutrition

fairfax county seeing some of that rain, but the bulk of the rain and the heaviest rain continues to be down towards stafford. right down routes 15, right down 17, that's where we're seeing some of the heaviest rain. some of the heaviest rain continues to come over the same areas that saw rain earlier today. we'll continue to watch some areas of rain throughout the rest of the evening, but tomorrow this is what's coming our way. look at all the moisture coming down to the south. let's see if i can make this arrow the right way. i did an arrow. that's the way the wind is coming. that's the way the rain is coming tomorrow, so we will get rather wet. however, we're not talking severe weather. couple of strong storms.

he gets the gatorade bath as he comes home. you know what that means. a little walk-off pine courtesy of adam jones. that was a little violent right there. the o's, they get the victory 5-4 over the mets. elsewhere, the redskins getting set for preseason game number two. last week against the browns, the first team offense did not produce the way head coach jay gruden wanted. they'll try and rectify that tomorrow against the lions, but more importantly this team knows the next three games it's all about walking away in one piece. >> we just really want to get in and out healthy. last game, we had a couple of injuries and those are devastating for us. those are our brothers, so, you know, you can say what you want about the preseason, but we want to get in and get out. make sure we put together a good drive, however many drives coach wants us to get in.
