homicide. it happened just before midnight on b street in southeast. and they happened during an all out effort by d.c. police to get the gun violence under control. news4 derrick ward talked to neighbors who new the victim. >> reporter: the adults warned the children not to ride their bikes across those puddles on the sidewalk. they don't tell them why. they don't tell them they are blood stained or three men were shot last night at 11:44. they found the victims and two would be the 104th and 105th murders. they were more than numbers. >> they called me mr. johnson. >> reporter: police identified the victims as 26-year-old amani johnson of northeast and 21-year-old sha heed james of clinton. >> reporter: there's a bit of outrage amidst the highly

publicized all hands on deck. >> reporter: six overses were close enough to respond on b street in short order. not quickly enough. they can't be everywhere at once. >> i'm kind of appalled this has happened. >> reporter: there was another weekend spade of shootings across the city six different scenes including a man shot at 4400 block of 6th place and man wounded at 18th street around 2:45. a total of nine victims at six scenes kept fire and ems crews busy. witnesses to the b street scene said principles george's ambulance was there and often helps the city when the crews are stretched thin. mark johnson helps to keep them out of this kind of trouble says resources and help are spread th thinly, too. >> the educational system and support system and programs don't have nowhere to go. they hang in the because there's nothing here and nowhere for them to go. >> reporter: derrick ward, news4. >> we're getting new information from d.c. police about the

progress they say they've been making against gun violence. each police district in the city has a crime suppression team. since june, officers on those teams have made 788 arrests, recovered 79 guns and 23 all-terrain vehicles which have been linked to crime in the district. officers on the suppression teams have also seized hundreds of pounds of drugs since june. police want to remind that you can bring up concerns about crime in your neighborhood at monthly citizens advisory council meetings. breaking news out of texas tonight. a man is under arrest for killing a sheriff's deputy at a gas station near houston last night. the harris county sheriff's office just made that announcement. they hsuehshan non miles you saw there walked -- they shsuehshan nhsuehshan -- they say shannon myles wa walked up to officer go forfort

this is the last weekend of freedom for some kids in our area. students head back to area schools on monday. ♪ >> so they got in one last bit of fun at a back to school fair in rockville today. it wasn't all fun and games. students also got free health screenings and immunizations to make sure 7th and 8th graders are up to date on school requirements and to ask questions. >> we have partners here giving out resources and we have a lot of parents coming and celebra

10 years ago the country looked on in horror at the devastating pictures coming from new orleans. entire neighborhoods wiped off the map by hurricane katrina. the montgomery county fire department witnessed the devastation first hand when they went down to help in the recovery effort. today, they sent us this home video taken on vhs tape 10 years ago. some of the footage has never been seen. firefighters had trouble describing what they were seeing. >> there's so many of these a a areas like this. we drive around and find strip mall s burned to the ground we didn't even know were on fire and were inaccessible. >> we are working to get more of this video into the nbc washington app. we should have it up later tonight, just search "katrina." we are so fortunate we have never -- we haven't had any sort of devastating hurricane such as
