i'm b that teenager girl told her story as she was wounded after leaving a library. kristin wright leads us off with that. >> reporter: this 13-year-old girl and her mother are intent on being on this meeting tonight because what happened to this girl cannot happen again. >> i want them to be caught, because gun violence is ridiculous, and it can be anybody else's child next. and they might get shot and not live. i'm happy to live. >> this is a child, 13, young, to have been shot in d.c.'s escalating gun lviolence. >> my mom was saying her night before was that her biggest fear was her kids being shot. >> she was sitting on a neighbor's porch sunday doing another little girl's hair. when she heard a sound she knows too well. >> a car came and started to shoot. i was trying to cover up the

georgia, a police officer is in critical condition after being shot while responding to the wrong home. police say they got a call for a suspicious person at a house in a suburb of atlanta but officers entered the wrong house and shots were fired. the homeowner was shot in the leg and his dog w killed. >> today you can learn more about how d.c.'s mayor plans to cut down on homelessness. today the mayor will announce a set of initiatives aimed at

reducing the amount of homeless people in the district. the city moved about 150 homeless families to motel rooms earlier in the year. we may learn this is part of a move around year around shelters. she's expected to lay out her plans at 2:00. >> you may not like them but a new study says speed cameras can save live and it points to montgomery county for a model. the study found drivers in the county are 60% less likely to break the speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more, and serious or deadly crashes from dropped by nearly 40%. iihs estimates 21,000 lives could be saved a year if the program were instituted nationwide. >> changes at a local airport, especially if you're not flying

supporters of gay marriage asking for equality. on the other side, people are out here supporting kim davis's decision not to issue the licenses. i was here when that first couple walked in into her office this morning and they refused the marriage license. she came out. they asked her why and she said she could not give them an issue them a marriage license. she said it was immoral. obviously, i've spoken to both sides and they tell me this is something ha they firmly believe in and will fight for, jennifer mcgraw covering the news for nbc news. >> three families in prince george's county have to find somewhere else to stay. a fire caused $150,000 worth of damage to three town homes that started around 3:00 this morning. one man said he was about to go to sleep when he heard frantic knocking at his door. he was able to get out in time.

no word on what caused the fire. right now police in arizona are trying to figure out who is behind four highway shootings. a tour bus, suv and cars were all shot upon in in phoenix last weekend. when the bus driver stopped, he saw a bullet car. >> i came back and did a walk around. i'm like, that's a bullet hole. >> only the driver was on the bus when this happened. right now police are not sure whether this shootings are connectinged. >> a maryland commission could make their recommendations on how police body cameras can be used in maryland. the panel will gather today in annapolis for their second meeting. two big questions are when should an officer turn off a camera and how will departments store the video?

six construction workers are being treated right now after

building collapses in rhode island. take a look at some of the pictures we got. the building, this one was under construction. and you can see right there, all the steel beams, the frame of the building flattened out on the ground. this is on the campus of a private state university. we are told that those hurt are expected to be okay. they are not suffering from life threatening injuries. investigators trying to figure out what caused the accident. >> right now d.c. police say they want to speak with this moo man. he's a suspect. they say he is a suspect in a burglary that happened in northwest on august 12th. this is surveillance video from the robbery. two days later matthew shlansky was shot and killed. they say dudley is a person of interest in the race. >> a 23-year-old was also
