>> a montgomery county police cruiser is one of the cars involved in a crash. it happened just after 9:00 on gateway center drive on string road. you can see the cruiser had damage to the front end. it appears a landscaping truck and trailer may have also been involved. no word on any injuries. >> right now at the live desk. what metro is doing to prevent another derailment. as we get new details from inside the transit agencies first public meeting about it from transportation reporter, adam tuss, who is live tweeting. metro says it appears the employee who deleted critical track safety information may have done so before he even read it. we have also learned the transit agency has hired a contractor to double-check its conclusions after the derailment near the smithsonian station last month. metro says it is determined to

of michael brown. they detail arbitrary use of police force armored, vehicles, snipers and police dogs for crowd control. several agencies say they have already made significant changes. >> developing right now, the search for three accused cop killers in illinois is back to square one after a lead overnight turned out to be a hoax. the pan hunt near box lake intensified after a woman reported two suspicious men. turns out, that woman submitted a false report to attract attention. it is a setback in the search for the killers of lieutenant joseph glen owe wits. hundreds of people turned out to remember the life of the lieutenant. his wife of 26 years spoke saying, the town lost someone special, not just her husband but a man dedicated to his community and to seeing young men and women become officers. his four sons stood by the mom. three relatives in the primary person of interest in

the lyon sisters disappearance. they face obstruction of justice and perjury charges. they are related to richard welch who is the person of interest in the deaths of sheila and katherine lyon. his nephew does face two counts of murder in this case. >> just in, quarterback, tom brady, wins a big victory in his nfl deflategate court case. a u.s. district judge nullified the league's four-game suspension. it is still uncertain if this ends the legal battle and clears the way for brady's first regular season game next week. the judge's decision can be appealed to the second circuit court of appeals or the losing side could also seek a stay. earlier this week, brady, the nfl and players association failed to reach a settlement. back to you. >> now, the county clerk who refuses to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples is in a federal court in kentucky.

a new internal report shows they have nearly 1 million pending applications from vets that need to be seen by a doctor. the applications go back nearly two decades. about a third of the applicants are likely dead. many of them passing away years ago. but, due to, quote, serious problems with enrollment data, it is impossible to say whether they died while waiting for care. the report also says v.a. workers incorrectly marked many applications completed and many important transactions may have been depleted. heat, humidity and the chance of storms just as one part of the

molette green at the live desk. a woman lost her life after being struck at the intersection of commonwealth avenue and braddock road. it happened just before 9:30 this morning. this is in you video, live video just in right now. this is a residential area. you can see police are still in that area. they are redirecting traffic and they are asking the public to come forward with any information that will help them solve this hit and run crash. that is the latest. back to you, aaron. >> all right, month he lelette, you. new details about a helicopter training exercise that somehow went wrong killing a u.s. marine and injuring 12 others. it made a hard landing last night at camp lejeune, a primary heavy lift helicopter that has a top speed of 172 miles per hour.

a spokesperson says we won't know the name of the dead marine for 24 hours, which is standard procedure in the armed services parents and students at hilton high school in woodbridge are looking over their shoulders after reports that a man exposed himself to a student as she walked to a bus stop. megan mcgrath is live in dale city. what is the community saying? >> reporter: certainly, it is a very disturbing situation. if you look lined mbehind me het is where the bus picks up student. yesterday, a 17-year-old was walking to that bus stop. as she walked along this wooded area. a man standing along the tree line exposed himself. hilton high school students waited for the bus under the watchful eye of a school security officer as well as a county cop. having learned what happened, denise mcglan decided to walk her sister to the bus stop. >> you never know what could happen and safety is the number one priority.

>> reporter: parents and students are on edge after a man exposed himself to a 17-year-old girl yesterday. it happened around 7:00 a.m. as the teenager was walking to the bus stop. police say the man was standing near a wooded area not far from the intersection of savannah drive and wood place at woodbridge. while he did not approach or touch the teen, he did make obscene gestures. she catches the bus there. she is happy to see the added security. >> it is a little safer. with all the security here, no one is going to go over and mess with us. police aren't always going to be here to protect us. >> the school system wants parents to know what happened and to be alert. they sent a note home with students. not just hilton high school but other area high schools as well. >> developing this mid-day, police in la plata say a man tweeted a threat against many of the people that live in that

new video just in of police searching the arlington home of david black. check it out. he is the estranged husband of bonny black. she was found dead in her home three blocks away back in april after her children were spotted outside in their pajamas. no one has been charged in her death. pat collins is there on the scene. we'll have much more on the investigation on news 4 this evening. back to you. >> molette, thank you. metro holding its first public hearing on last month's train derailment. >> there have been major revelations about the breakdowns that led to the accident. adam tuss has been in that meeting all morning and joins us live now. hey, adam. >> reporter: hey, barbara.

just stepped out from this meeting. i can tell you. it just got very tense inside. metro board members going after metro staff about what happened. what we learned this morning is that trit cal safety information that told metro officials about a track defect that could cause a derailment was simply deleted, possible before a metro employee even read it. they equated it to deleting an e-mail before you read it. metro can hit a button and a section of track that is potentially dangerous can stay in place for weeks. that is what happened. that's why a train derailed on august 6th. of course, metro has a very high-tech piece of equipment called a track geometry vehicle to go and find this problem. the problem started with someone on that vehicle. here is a metro board member grilling metro staff just minutes ago. >> on the day you brought in the tgv, you did not have a

thank you. parents and students at hilton high school in woodbridge are on edge after a 17-year-old girl reported a man exposed himself to her as she was walking at the bus stop. that happened yesterday morning. the man was standing near a wooded area there. police say he didn't approach or touch the student. police and school security officers are keeping a closer watch on students walking in that area today. a picture of women wearing black face has five college soccer players suspended. a player at whit world posted this photo on instagram and twitter. the group was dressed up as the jackson 5 for a party wearing black face and wigs. it was later taken down. witworth university spokane has suspended the women. they could face more punishment. >> looks hot, feels hot, and it looks hot. temperatures are going to go well into the 90s, again today. hazy sunshine for your late
