a charred car, a discovery made not far from the washington high land recreation center. what do we know about the situation? >> we can tell you we are live near the intersection with valley avenue here in southeast washington. you are looking up a zenia street right now. you can hear as well as ambulance crews.

what we confirmed with police that they were around 9:15 this evening for a vehicle on fire here. when they went to put the fire out. at that point, that's when a body was discovered inside that car. right now, that's basically all the information that d.c. police are providing. this investigation is ongoing to try to figure out exactly what happened, how the body ended up in the car and what were the circumstances. we'll bring you more details. we're live in southeast. >> thank you so much, darcy. a woman struck and kill kilned by a car as she was standing by a bus stop. tonight, there are still questions about exactly how this happened. a woman was at a stop. a car hit her there and then hit another vehicle. it did not identify the woman who was killed. three people in the car that hit

her were also taken to the hospital. the murder race in the district just keeps climbing. devon wade became the 106th homicide in d.c. this year, surpassing last year's total. wade and two others were shot on 24th street northeast last night. people near the scene said the gunshots sounded like fireworks. the other two victims were seriously injured. new tonight, three bold break-ins in potomac, maryland, and police say the same man is responsible for all three. the first one happened early friday morning at a sunoco gas station. according to police, the man broke into a window trying unsuccessfully to get cash from an atm. then early this morn, he broke into this same gas station again. police say that he smashed the cash register and this time managed to get out some money. ten minutes later, he hit the

evening after police arrested three people for the murder of a 17-year-old. police charged a juvenile for murdering the 17-year-old yesterday. an 18-year-old and 20-year-old are also facing gun charges. police say the crime appears to be gang related. one of those arrested may have gone to park view high school. school officials say they know there's gang activity but most students keep the activity out of school. >> what i've been told by kids themselves is we understand the ramifications of us assuming our gang hood in schools. so they do what they can to leave it at the door. >> park view high school will have more police on campus in the coming weeks. holiday weekend travel plans interrupted at l.a.x. today. somebody called in a bomb threat this afternoon saying there was an exploes i6 device inside homeland vehicle parked near a terminal. the threat caused a massive

traffic jam outside. police and airport authorities evacuated three terminals. while the bomb squad investigated they didn't find anything. a day on the water is very scary after flames quickly engulfed a 34-foot boat, sending thick black smoke into the air this afternoon. it took firefighters just about 20 minutes shy of an hour to put the fire out. one person on the boat was hurt, but that person refused to go to the hospital. no word yet on what caused that fire. an 11-year-old boy accused of swiping a car. and then taking it on a joyride. why the victim is so scared that he could strike again. some progress tonight in the europe migrant crisis. the phone call that could make a world of difference for thousands of refugees. and you'll see what happened when confederate flag supporters

waves of asylum seekers have made it to germany, but there are thousand more behind them. german police say at least 4300 people, many of them from syria, arrived at the train station in munich tonight. they were being held in hungary where the government threatened to put them in camps. but after days of international

pressure, local authorities bust them out. late tonight, hungary's prime minister and germany's chancellor angela merkel talked on the phone. her office said both sides agreed that they are meeting their obligations in dealing with this humanitarian crisis. >> a maryland man is charged with drunk driving and manassas after a crash that killed a passenger in his truck. this happened late last night. the frederick county sheriff's office said haliburton ran a stop sign hitting another car. the man inside his truck was jekted and died on the scene. police quickly arrested haliburton, two other people in the truck and three people in the second vehicle also had to go to the hospital. chanting black lives matter, protesters rallied inside union station today. earlier, u.s. capital police kept an eye on confederate flag

supporters. that group did have a permit for their rally. counterprotesters showed up. things got a bit tense but remained peaceful and there were no arrests. well, we got a break from the heat wave today. pretty nice, right? tom is up next to tell us what's in store for the rest of the weekend. and a deadly outbreak linked to cucumbers.

was just recovering from heart surgery lost all his baseball equipment. his mom was a teacher and police say an 11-year-old -- that's not a typo -- an 11-year-old boy stole her card, took it on a joyride and wrecked it recently. the teacher said the suspect took her car keys during class. the suspect being the 11-year-old. when she wasn't looking, and then just disappeared. >> he was missing for too long. just started something in my head. let me go check on my car. and that was the only spot in the parking lot that was open. they caught up, but still he can come back to school. it's pretty scary. >> the juvenile is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. new tonight, we're learning about an outbreak that's impacting the united states. the cause of outbreak is cucumbers imported from mexico. the outbreak is blamed on one death and has spread to 27

states. now while the cdc says the produce was not shipped to maryland, virginia, or d.c., one person in virginia did come down with symptoms. health officials say to ask your grocerier where the cucumbers came from if you're concerned. >> if they came from the united states or here locally in arizona, they are safe to eat. if you don't know where the cucumbers are from, you should throw them away. discipline could be coming for some cadets at the u.s. military academy after an annual pillow fight turned dangerous. the school superintendent said close to 30 cadets suffered concussions during the fight on august 20 at west point. according to the new york times, some cadets put hard objects in their pillow cases, turning them into weapons. the annual pillow fight is a tradition to build freshman camaraderie.

beautiful day out there. i'm sure everybody at the beach is loving it. for those of us still in town, gorgeous. >> for me, i haven't been up this late since the reagan administration. >> he doesn't know if it's 11:00 a.m., 11:00 p.m. >> cue the twilight zone music. this evening, though, it's pretty nice. wednesdayed up with temperatures in the mid 80s this afternoon. now it's back down into the 70s. a very pleasant saturday evening. and as we take a look outside, there's a live view from the tower cam. pointed down to the ground at northwest washington. we've got a mostly cloer sky and a nice evening under way here. light breeze coming in out of the north and east. and our temperatures around the metro area right now, it's in the low 70s in fairfax county. low to mid 70s right in southern montgomery county. and western prince george's county. around the chesapeake, it's right in the low to mid 70s as well.

a beautiful day around the bay on the eastern shore. for exercise, tomorrow morning, beautiful weather. it's going to be a little less humid than it is now. then an upper 80s by mid to late afternoon, tomorrow and partly cloudy, but a gorgeous summer day during the day tomorrow. and great weather at the pool as well. should be in the mid 80s, partly cloudy. you'll notice it's going to be just a touch less humid. and post your pictures, like this one, from nag's head where the rough surf was coming in with rip currents. there were quite a few ocean rescues going on. as the outer banks and up around virginia 3w5e67. and some around ocean city as well because of the strong rip currents. so the beach forecast for tomorrow we'll have another day with rough surf and temperatures near 80 degrees. and partly sunny. mostly sunny for labor day in the beaches. some of that surf should be

settling down. water temperature is in the up 70s. as we look at the forecast inland, it's going to be up around 90 dps on labor day with morning lows in upper 60s and partly cloudy. then back to work and school on tuesday. it's going to be hot and humid again. temperatures climbing into the low 90s. back into the low to mid 90s and partly cloudy. next chance of rain on thursday, showers and thundershowers. friday and saturday looking kind of damp. it looks like we have some showers on friday and saturday with highs in the low to mid 80s. >> still plenty of great days to enjoy. thomas jefferson once said i cannot live without books. and today, the art of the written word was celebrated at the 15th annual library of congress national book festival.
