take a look out the windshield here at what we have got going on. we're rolling along i-66. of course right now around 4:30 in the morning pretty light out here right now. really what we will see is over the next couple of weeks your commute time is going to increase. because everyone is back in this region and schools are back. don't forget in fairfax county alone, you have 1,600 school buses that are out there on the roads. that is a fleet second only in size to new york city. it's actually larger than greyhound if you can believe that. we're rolling around, checking out some trouble spots. we'll let you know what develops. back to you guys. >> thank you. today new students to fairfax county will need to bring their shot records to school. kindergarten and sixth grade students need to show their records today. if you haven't had your child immunized yet, it's no too late.

after a shooting on forrester street. kristin wright is live at the police department now with more on another victim. kristin? >> reporter: yeah. we're actually live at the scene right now. this brings the number of homicides in d.c. this year to 109. this one happened last night at 10:30. two people were shot, the one who was killed is a man we're told. the other person who was shot is also an adult male. we are told he right now is in life threatening critical to grave condition. so that number of homicides could rise to 110. again, this shooting happened at 10:30. you are looking at pictures from the scene just last night of all the police activity happening. you see a large police crime van there, lots of detectives and police officers. trying to put all of the pieces together. but not a whole lot of information coming out at this point, but one person is dead

from this shooting on forrester street, right off of south capital and one person in brave condition. back to you guys. >> kristin wright live for us in southwest, thank you. when i looked back it doesn't feel like my kids haven't here for a year, but every day has felt day by day like it's taken forever. >> the father of two children now missing for exactly one year in montgomery county said he's not giving up the search. the hoggles went missing and their father troy turner and grandmother will talk about the search for the toddlers at noon today. the children were last seen with their mother, catherine hoggle. montgomery county police charged her with child neglect. however, she has paranoid schizophrenia and is not competent to stand trial. police think the children at this point are no longer alive. >> definitely not. because they're my children. i mean, that's just it. they're my kids. there's no way to stop. that's not -- i mean, that's not

even an option. >> jacob hoggle would be 3 years old today. sarah would be 4. if family says if you think you know anything about what happened to them, call montgomery county police. your time is 4:25. the 17-year-old charged in the shooting death of a teen walking to school will be arraigned in court. the victim denny centeno miranda was a senior in sterling. the suspect is from sterling. his name has not been released. two others face related chargers. the high school will have increased security and counselors on hand this morning. a former fairfax county police officer charged with possession of child pornography will appear in court for a preliminary hearing. william bud walker is a 15-year veteran who served as a public information officer for the department. he was arrested in april after a tip was received through the

photo networking website tumblr. he was fired after the arrest. 4:36 right now. the minnesota dentist who killed cecil the lion is heading back to work today. walter palmer believes he acted legally in killing the lion. neither he or the others knew the lion had a name or was important to zimbabwe. he said he's ready to get back to twork. >> so he's talking about how he felt bad this had happened not only to him, but to other people close to him who weren't even involved in this hunt. weren't even in africa for the hunt. >> right now, palmer is not facing any charges in zimbabwe. big rescue in mississippi. a 4-year-old boy and dog are safe after being pulled from the 25-foot well. the hole only a foot and a half wide, it took emergency workers

this morning a touching reunion following a big scare in el salvador. a couple reunited with the new born after the staff swapped the baby with another baby. they believed the baby had been sold to traffickers because of fairer skin. the mom delivered in el salva r salvador, her native company. upon returning to the u.s., they

stolen all of my joy from me. >> a grandmother in disbelief. her family ripped apart this morning. three young children, delonte, jr., elijah and elijah just 2 years old, their parents died sunday on an afternoon run to the grocery store. they were getting ready for the labor day party. this is the lexus they were driving in. a driver was trying to pass two other cars on kirby hill road and crashed into their car. shalaya's mother feels robbed. >> i forgive this person because they did not intend to do this, but speed and reckless driving, it's what -- it gets my heart.

>> the driver who hit and killed the couple is not seriously hurt. we will keep checking in with the police to see if they file charges in this case. 14 before the hour now. a busy month ahead on capitol hill. lawmakers return to work today, poised for another fight that could bring us to a government shutdown. nbc's tracie potts on the hill now with the look what's ahead. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. they have got to come to some agreement on how to keep this government running. 12 big spending bills. every september 30th they have the same deadline to pass them and every september 30th for almost the last 20 years they have failed to do so. that's what prompts the government shutdown if they can't keep the money flowing. what congress will to is pass temporary funding bills until they get to something permanent. a couple of roadblocks. defense spending, both sides they want to increase defense spending but the president insists on also increasing domestic spending along with that. planned parenthood that could be

a big snag as some want to defund it and hold up the rest of the government funding over that. the other thing they have to deal with is whether or not to approve this iran deal. what will happen, there's a vote of disapproval. the president will veto that and now he has 38 votes more than he needs to sustain that veto so it looks like the iran deal is going to go ahead. we don't know the timing on that vote. they don't have a lot of time to get all of this done. the senate has 15 scheduled work days this month. the house only has ten. >> wow. okay. not much. right. tracie potts on the hill, thank you. right now, hundreds of migrants are walking towards budapest, fed up with waiting for buses to take them there. take a look at this new video we got. it shows the groups of migrants beginning a more than 100 mile walk from the border with serbia. now, this accident began yesterday when a group of more than 500 broke through police

lines. officers used pepper spray to hold them back but it didn't work. britain and france have promised to accept another 44,000 migrants. aaron? >> thank you. 4:48. today, we expect former d.c. candidate kelvin robinson to be sentenced for inspiring to conceal excess campaign contributions. the prosecutors say the business man jeffrey thompson donated to his 2010 campaign, but sent that money through companies. prosecutors say thompson took part in the shadow campaign to help elect mayor vincent gray. he faces up to a year in prison. this morning the man who pleaded guilty to a frightening beating on a metro train will be sentenced. that was captured on cell phone video. this happened about 1:00 a.m. on june 7th. prosecutors say 52-year-old william nelson got into a verbal dispute with two teens and then one of them punched -- he

actually punched one of them and a man who tried to intervene. nelson knocked the man to the ground. nelson could spend several years in prison. this afternoon a louisiana national guardsman killed in a helicopter crash last march will be laid to rest at arlington national cemetery. family members were told that army staff sergeant that he was not eligible for burial there, because he wasn't on active duty when he died. at the time, his father called that a quote slap in the face. the army later approved the burial. flerk is from fairfax county. today mike huckabee will attend a liberty rally in grayson, kentucky. kim davis was arrested last week after she refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples which she is required to do by law. spray parks in the district are open. the parks will stay open longer this year because it's still hot outside. >> yeah. >> they were due to close

beginning to your day. 73 still at reagan national airport. south to southwesterly winds will pump the heat and humidity back into the region. yesterday, we did it again. we touched 90 degrees for a brief time. that's 50 days this summer 09 degrees or higher. a muggy start this morning, sunny, hot and humid weather coming our way today. temperatures running some ten degrees warmer than average. 66 in frederick, maryland, this morning. 63 in martinsburg. 71 in falls church. 70 degrees in leesburg. running forecast, extra humid. slow your pace down a bit for today. better running days are coming our way later on in the week. for the lucky few that have the day off, you can spend it out by the pool. sunny skies, heat and humidity and temperatures in the low 90s. there's the leading edge of the change of seasons that are a rives here mainly during the day on friday. there will be a chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm tomorrow, but thursday is our best chance for rain this week.

future weather for today, nary a cloud to be found in our skies this afternoon. temperatures will reach into the upper 80s and low 90s. so very warm and humid day to be outside today. then for tomorrow, a quiet but humid start. clouds building by lunch time tomorrow. then showers are a possibility, starting 3:00 or 4:00 tomorrow afternoon, running up until after sunset hours. looks like friday could be a bit of a showery start tomorrow. highs tomorrow as a result of the rain chances will be a touch cooler but probably still near 90. 93 today. 90 to 92 tomorrow with a 50% chance for rain. most of the rain this week comes on thursday. should be ending by friday afternoon. most of the coming weekend will be dry, but most important of all, melissa, the coming weekend will be cooler. >> sounds good to me. thank you, chuck. right now, a brand-new disabled vehicle. this is 95 northbound in virginia at the icc.

police had to use a stun gun, a baton and pepper spray before they were able to arrest the man. d.c. police say a car is now part of another homicide investigation in the city. take a look here. it was found burning on foxhall place southeast saturday night. according to police they say they found a man's body inside. someone shot him and set the car on fire. witnesses say two men doused the car with gasoline. we are working to learn the victim's name. now to the mystery on the mountain more than a month after historic harpers ferry was damaged. they haven't figured out the cause. the fire marshal said they found money missing from private quinn's pub. that's where the fire began. local police are trying to figure out why. people we spoke to in the area said the fire was suspicious from the beginning. tourism has taken a hit following the fire as well. >> there's less than 300 people that live here. so they depend on people coming here and the revenue from

tourism and all that. and when you have that drop off 10, 20, 30% that's a big, big number for them to pick up. >> news4 has learned the u.s. senate will consider aid for harpers ferry. and the fire marshal wouldn't use the word phrase. but instead used the word undetermined. in preparation for pope francis' visit, catholic schools are taking a pledge to walk with francis. it is to encourage students and families to follow pope francis' example serving their communities. today at our lady of victory school in northwest d.c., students will write their pledges. some students will meet with the pope when he visits later this month and share their pledges. now before his u.s. visit, pope francis is busy reforming the catholic church. this time he's overhauled the church's procedure for marriage annulments. the new changes will -- which will be announced later today
