affected by gun violence. now, it was a shocking crime, a television news crew gunned down on live television by a former co-worker. well, today, the father of the reporter who was murdered he's going to be on capitol hill calling on lawmakers for tougher to pass -- tougher gun control measures. andy parker is still reeling from the death of his daughter allison and photographer adam ward. he's working to prevent more deaths and he's asking lawmakers to do what ever it takes to stop the violence. now that's a slogan for today's day of action, what ever it takes. andy parker will be joined by survivors and relatives of the virginia tech, the charleston church and sandy hook shooters. the sponsor is encouraging people to upload messages to congress calling on lawmakers to pass tougher gun control

legislation. this will be rallies -- there will be rallies held across the country, but the event here in washington gets under way at 11:00. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. a virginia senator has introduced one such gun control law. tim kaine is pressing for passage of the responsible transfer of firearms act. this bill would punish anyone who sells a gun to a person not legally allowed to buy one. this isn't the first time he's fought for gun control. he was governor when the virginia tech shooting occurred. another major hearing today for the six baltimore police officers charged with freddie gray's death. gray died of a severe spinal injury while in police custody back in april. today, a judge will decide whether to move the officers' trials out of baltimore. the officers believe they won't have a fair jury there. we're expecting more protests outside the hearing today. baltimore police say they'll be out in response to that. but they will not bring shields, helmets or other riot bear. an apparent change in how

mayor muriel bowser wantbes to handle -- wants to handle police body camera footage. she would propose that all video be released to the public, but cork to "the washington post" it included an exemption for footage of all assaults. footage of interactions between police and the public that result in charges would also be withheld. d.c. fire and ems crews took a baby to the hospital in a fire truck rather than wait for an ambulance. the latest case happened monday on hunt street when a 1 month old stopped breathing. that child is okay now. last friday a 5 month old boy died after he stopped breathing. the number of 911 calls along with traffic is part of what leads to and these delays. today, a judge could sentence a montgomery county man to 12 years in prison. austin hall was convicted of manslaughter for a crash that

killed his friend last year. that happened at olney. he was 17 at the time. the prosecutors said he was going 119 miles an hour in a 35 zone. 15-year-old shawn ganglove died. another one was injured but survived. a couple of virginia state lawmakers want to hold hearings on the controversial arrest of a black uva student last spring. you might remember this video of martese johnson's bloody arrest. those alcoholic beverage control officers were cleared of any wrongdoing. the virginian pilot newspaper reports lawmakers want governor terry mcauliffe's office to release its report on what happened. mcauliffe's office has declined. a former d.c. rabbi is now publicly apologizing for secretly recording women in a ritual bath. freundel said i defiled a space that was supposed to be sacred and i caused people to be unsafe and abuse and a objectified and i'm sorrier than anyone can imagine for what i have done. he was sentenced to 6 1/2 years

in d.c. jail for voi yourism. he's making the apology now because the jewish holy days are this month and they call for soul searching and repentance. the national memorial in pennsylvania is honoring the lives of those lost during the 9/11 attacks. a dedication will be held at the new visitor center and it takes place at 10:00 this morning. a new learning center will open to the public for first time today. the multipurpose space will be used for educational programs and special events. events to remember the crew and the passengers of flight 93 will happen tomorrow starting at 9:45 a.m. we are getting a better idea of what you can expect on metro when pope francis comes to washington. metro says your commute will be longer than usual. brookland station is the smallest on the red line but it's also the closest station to the basilica where the pope will

police are calling it domestic terrorism and there have been ten incidents in the last 13 days. mostly along interstate 10. janelle brannic lives in the phoenix area now, but she remembers the beltway sniper. she used to live in maryland. >> i changed my route to work. i drive a little bit further now. but i feel a little bit safer. >> right now, electronic billboards are flashing a shooting tips hotline to drivers on i-10. if you were at takoma metro station, you may have been surprised to see a woman pull out a gun. a plainclothe metro transit police officer pulled a gun on a man yesterday. he was being ticketed for trying to skip the fare when the incident became violent. and take a good look at the armed robbers. d.c. police sent us the video of two people holding up a

pharmacist in brentwood road northwest. if you recognize the two men call d.c. police. the daughter of a woman killed in a car crash says she wants an apology from the man accused in her mother's death. kenneth kelley has been charged for the crash in oxon hill that killed five people including two mothers. kelley was driving at more than 70 miles an hour when he slammed into the victim's car last october. the blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit in maryland. a man is facing charges this morning after a hit and run that killed a firefighter in michigan. police say firefighter dennis rodeman was deliberately killed yesterday. he was helping to raise money for muscular dystrophy foundation and he was struck by a truck. he got into a confrontation with the man in the truck. the driver of the truck then circled back and hit the firefighter. kentucky county clerk kim davis is going back to work monday after spending five days in jail. she hasn't said if she'll comply

with a court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. davis is still getting paid for the time she sat in jail. one of her deputy clerks said he'll keep issuing licenses even if davis says no. maureen mcdonnell's lawyers arguing her conviction should be thrown out. prosecutors filed a 39-page document saying maureen mcdonnell knew exactly what she was doing when she accepted thousands of dollars in gifts from businessman johnny williams while her husband bob mcdonnell was governor of virgini that's according to "the washington post." maureen mcdonnell's lawyers say her conviction should be overturned because she was not aware of federal corruption charges at the time. she is facing a sentence of one year and one day in prison. an initiative from terry mcauliffe is now in effect. take a look here, these are the new sons of confederate veterans license plates. virginia's dmv says there are about 1,600 of these plates issued at this point.

they still have three confederate leaders on horse back. you can see sort of in the background there. and the words sons of confederate veterans, however they no longer show the confederate flag. police in loudoun county arrested a 13-year-old for this act of vandalism. they say he spray painted ms 13 across cars in the ashburn area monday night. he acted alone and the graffiti is not gang related. even though ms 13 is a gang. a woman in texas is the second to die from salmonella in an outbreak that health officials believe comes from tainted cucumbers. hundreds of people are sick. officials believe the cucumbers were grown in mexico. one person in virginia has symptoms but to be clear, the cdc says the tainted produce was not distributed to stores in virginia, d.c. or maryland. salt is going to be on the new menus in new york city. the big apple the first in the country to require chain

eastbound suitland parkway. travel times in ten minutes. eun? >> thank you. later today, stafford high freshmen will get their first look at their brand-new school. stafford county inspectors just gave the school the green light to allow teachers and students in just in time for orientation. there will be an open house tonight. stafford high had to push back the first day of class because of delays in obtaining occupancy permits. classes start monday. fairfax county is just starting the school year, but next year's budget is already a concern. the school board met with parents to explain the budget last night and asked for ideas on how to balance it. the county is predicting major shortfalls next year of between 50 and $80 million. >> we know the next rounds of cuts would have potentially serious consequences but what's most important to us for our students in the schools and in the classrooms. so we felt like we had to have the community engaged with us in maing these decisions. >> the school board wants to hear from you. it has set up a special website

secret service found archie glass jr. outside the white house last month. he had been released from prison. this was a violation of his parole. glass has served time for threats against obama, george w. bush and clinton. he once was thought to be next hinckley. police are looking for thieves stealing handicapped placards out of cars. this week metro confirms at least five vehicles have been broken into. metro said this is a small percentage and crime in parking lots is trending downward. well, today advocates for paid sick leave are celebrating the introduction of a proposed sick leave law in prince george's county. it would allow workers to earn an hour of leave for every hour they work. basically it is a liberal rallying point right now some say and critics say, however, it could hurt local businesses. molette green getting new

with neglect of duty in that case. a judge could sentence a montgomery county man to 12 years in prison, austin hall was convicted of manslaughter for this crash that killed his friend last year. the crash happened in olney. hall was 17 at the time. prosecutors said he was going 119 miles an hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. a 15-year-old died and another teenager was injured but survived. a couple of lawmakers want to hold a protest on the arrest of the uva student. those alcoholic beverage control officers were cleared of any wrongdoing. the virginian pilot reports lawmakers want governor terry mcauliffe's office to release its report on what happened. mcauliffe's office has declined that request. just got word about a big recall involving fiat chrysler, involving more than 1.5 million
