just fine. this morn, kennington at baltimore street still have lane blocked there and right now 270, no problems at all. eun? >> thank you, melissa. it's 5:03. a father is dead this morning and detectives are on the scene to find out who killed him. he was targeted. someone him at the marketplace around 6:00 last night. one bullet went into a wall at a nearby chinese takeout restaurant. no one inside was hurt. two new investigations this morning for police in southeast washington. they say two men are recovering from separate shootings. one on astor place, this is near central avenue. that happened around 10:00 last night. the other on high street not far from martin luther king jr. avenue. that one just before midnight. police do not have suspects in either shooting. police say both men should

survive wi survive. >> we now know the name of the man who was shot inside union station. he stabbed a woman on friday. a security guard from the s.e.c. chased wilson near mcdonald's inside the station. wilson was shot when he went after the guard with a knife. the woman who was stabbed is expectedto be okay. today a former youth hockey coach accused of possessing child pornography heads to court today in fairfax county. timothy bodenheimer worked for a washington hockey travel team. it's not known whether the players were those that he coached. police say he used instagram and snapchat to contact them. students will head to class this morning aet the newpmxñ stafford high school. the school was originally supposed to open up last monday. we, the first day of school was

actually pushed back because it did not have occupancy permits for that new building. county inspectors have now given the green light for that school to open. some parents are concerned about the week delay and how students will make up that lost time. the family of malik thomas is looking for answers. no one has seen the prince george's county man since his car was found on fire a week ago. police found the man dead inside that car in southeast washington. someone shot him. police have not positively identify tl body, so the family doesn't know whether thomas is the victim. his mother told us the two spoke just hours before police found the car. >> and the last words i actually said to my son was be careful. so he did not say where he was headed. >> the family says they've turned over dental records and other information to investigators. and those records could help them identify the body. today a kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex

couples is back at work. kim davis is out of jail. davis spent five days behind bars for refusing to issue the licenses in violation of a u.s. supreme court ruling. a judge said davis's office will now be monitored to make sure marriage licenses are being issued. also today we'll learn the policy recommendations a group of leaders say will make ferguson, missouri, stronger and a better place to live. missouri's governor form thad commission of 16 community leaders after the death of michael brown. he called on them to address the underlying causes that led to widespread and sometimes violent unrest in the city after a police officer shot and killed brown in august of 2014. 5:06 now. today bernie sanders is making two important campaign stops in virginia. the first at the conservative liberty university in lynchburg. later in the day sanders will be joined by local leaders at the prince williams fairgrounds in manassas. that event kix off at 6:00 tonight.

right now at the live desk we are watching dramatic pictures coming into our newsroom out of california. it's a wildfire burning everything in its packet. the fire has already spread way beyond wooded areas, destroying about 400 buildings and homes in middletown, lake county. a lot of concern here. one person has died. firefighters cannot keep up. it's just too fast. imagine 60 square miles in 12 hours. entire towns have had to be evacuated so far. back to you, angie. >> wow. that's devastating. thanks, kristen. >> metro ddot is updating their

plans for the upcoming visit of pope francis to d.c. this small stop is going to get packed real quick. >> reporter: good morning, angie. in just a few hours we're going to get a critical update on road closures and bus service. this is the closest stop to the national shrine. it's within walking distance. ticket holders, some 25,000 of them will come for a canon canonization mass. there will be road closures all over the area. now the brooklyn station is the only one. so adjustments have to be nad to get folks out of here. in here and out of here safely and as quickly as possible. so from a transportation perspective, they have to treat

a surveillance camera at a neighbor's house caught the whole indianapolis accident. he was a 24-year veteran of the metro police force. police say lucy green was the woman killed in the car crash yesterday. her car crashed into a trea on the southbound side south of spout run. a stretch of the g.w. parkway was closed for several hours. investigators have not said why the crash happened or how it happened. they're helping families who lost their homes. you can imagine the damage this blaze did to the 30 homes in maryland. investigators do not know how it started. they say everyone was able to get out safely. in ""news4" your health, tricycle accidents were the top cause of toy-related deaths in 2012.

that's according to research in georgia. almost all were between the ages of 1 and 2. most children don't have the balance or coordination to ride a tricycle until they're 3 years old and a lot of those younger children don't wear helmets. a new procedure may let you put away your reading glasses for good. take a look at this. consider this tiny black circle. you see it there? a tiny pin hole inside that helps focus light and restore your visit. it's called a karma cornea inlay and you only need to do it once. the procedure takes about 20 minutes but it will cost you. doctors estimate out-of-pocket patients will pay about $5,000, but for some who have to constantly wear reading glasses or they lose their reading glasses and they're squinting to see, it might be worth it. >> i know people who say i don't read as much or read anymore because it's such a nuisance having to do that. >> it causes problems. you're straining, that sort of

temperatures will rise from the 40s and 50s now into the low 70s at lunchtime and mid-70s for highs in most neighborhoods today. here's future weather and the computer model is turned on but hardly anything in the way of a cloud to show. that's today. tonight, clear skies and a chilly start again tomorrow morning. tomorrow, sunshine, hardly a cloud to be found on your tuesday. and then as we go into tuesday night on into wednesday. nothing but sunshine. by this time tomorrow morning once again back into the 40s. tomorrow it will look every bit as nice as today. a little bit of a rm roying trend begin tomorrow and continues all the way through the coming week. that's just about our seasonal average. 83 tomorrow is back into the plus territory and we'll be way above average. 8 to 10 degrees above average.

back in ten minutes. we'll see you then. new this morning, more arrests in the bombing of a shrine in bangkok. malaysia has now arrested three people. police say the suspects are cooperating in helping with the investigation. now, that shrine attack happened almost one month ago, if you remember that surveillance video showing a man leaving a backpack minutes before the explosion. he is the main suspect. he has not been caught. 20 people were killed in that attack in bangkok. back to you. >> thank you, kristin. it's now 5:25. a wisconsin mother accuse of killing her two children is getting ready to face a judge today. police say they found a diary from lewis ya hucia hernandez a describing how she killed her boy and girl before taking her own life. officials don't believe the father was involved. four people are dead and just as many hurt after a fight

over the weekend at a prison in oklahoma. this morning investigators will keep working to feg out what started that brawl. a spokesperson for the state department of corrections say three of the men died from stab wounds. she did not know anything of the nature of the other people who were injured or killed at the cimarron correction facility. it only houses men and sits between oklahoma city and tulsa. new this morning los angeles airport officials tries to figure out who planes managed to collide at the gate. take a listen to the pilot explaining the situation to confused passengers. >> essentially we stopped short of the gate because the gate wasn't what was expected and the aircraft behind us continued to push back from their gate and the two aircraft met at the same point at the same time. thank you. >> so in short they had a fender bender. the alaskan airlines plane bumped into an airlines plane

disappeared. jesse matthew jr. faces charges in her murder. rescue teams found graham's body after weeks of searching. investigation into her death also lunged matthew to at least one other woman's killing. >> charlottesville marked one year since graham's appearance with fresh attention to her life and other young people facing the same risk. volunteers from the organization helped save the next girl gathered about a week from the spot security cameras last spotted graham. the community fears they'll only remember graham as a statistic. >> i think people will want to sweep it under the rug and we want to get out here and raise awareness. hannah graham had a purpose, she was a human being, and we want people to realize that. >> we'll keep you updated on jesse matthew's case as they develop as well. kiera richardson is 15 years

dropping while his have been rising. so neath over these polls are really good news for hillary clinton. she's in iowa today trying to foe council that first caucus state. meantime you were talking about the republicans. they've got the debate coming up. not only is donald trump leading but in the state-by-state polls, ben carson is very close to him, within four percentage points. watch carly fiorina who's now going to be on the debate stage with the top ten on wednesday. >> tracie potts. thank you, tracie. 5:34. police arrested a man in a sexual assault case at the wheaton station. police say the man assaulted a woman on friday night. when they arrived they say smith jumped on the tracks into the tunnel. smith was able to get away from officers but was later arrested sunday. the mayor will hold a hearing. we expect two initiatives to focus on training and professional developments. >> today president obama continues to push his plan for free community college. he is heading to des moines for a town hall with high schoolers and their parents to discuss college access and affordability. education secretary arne duncan will be there as part of his back-to-school bus tour. so much for those late-night college parties. at least residents in west virginia hope so. too many people in the community have been complaining. now, as the vote passes, people caught screaming or making what police say is unreasonable noise in the streets between the hours of 11:00 at night and 7:00 in the morning, they could get in trouble. redskins fans hope the team can turn it around and pull off a win when they host the rams this coming weekend.

increased because of that. we're still 11 minutes behind. taking a look at travel times. outer loop, no problems there. 66 inbound. no issues. and 95 north to the quantico, you're on time. >> thank you, melissa. it is 5:41. a 13-year-old maryland boy has been charged with assault for grabbing and kissing an eighth grade girl. the incident happened wednesday morning at pikesville baltimore county. police say the boy grabbed the girl by her shirt and kissed her. he said it was a dare. the 13-year-old is now charged with second-degree assault. >> i know you're liking this. you're paying less for your gas right now than you have for a decade. that's according to the aaa. they say the national average of gas sits around $2.30. the national average in the district is just over $2.50. in maryland, you're paying a

mckenna. she had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar earlier. she was picked up and taken to fairfax county jail. er earlier they were trying to transfer her. there was video of the transfer that'd eventually led to her death. the video is disturbing. it shows deputies in biohazard suits strucking with mckenna who's shackled. they're trying to place her in a chair. she's being told to stop resisting and sit down. this is for your own good. this happened over the course of 17 minutes. she was tasered four times. after four times she went limp and cpr was begun and she was taken to the hospital and later died. they sate was excited delirium and brought on by the electrical

>> well, you can watch matt's entire interview coming up on the "today" show later this morning. >> a former hockey coach accused of possessing child pornography heads to court. he worked as a volunteer assistant coach for a washington little travel team. the investigation began in december. all of the boys bodenheimer contacted were hockey players. it's not known whether they were players that he coached. investigator sass i he used instagram to contact them. in maryland a former hockey coach is facing prostitution and human trafficking charges. he used french, sites to contact prostitutes in france and use them in the u.s. he's the owner of champion soccer academy in germantown. he was arrested last month in montgomery county.

police say his charges are not related to his soccer academy. a fender bender ended in a shotting death. one man got out of his car to check the damage, the other started shooting. police arrested 63-year-old robert jealous and charged him with murder. according to police, the victim didn't do anything wrong. >> the accident was so incredibly minor, that i just can't imagine why. i can't say in any way, shape, or form in my mind that that type of action was justified. >> well, police have not released the victim's name. they are investigating to see if drugs or alcohol were involved. an explanation is developing this morning after an attack that killed a dozen tourists. egyptian officials say police and other armed forces were pursuing what they're calling terrorist element whs enthey opened fire on four cars in cairo sunday. instead of terrorists, tourists from mexico were inside.
