performance and what a great season that jason day can culminate, steve. >> dan, thank you. jason, dan was just going through your resume. you've now won four of the last six starts on the pga tour, including a major championship and now your second playoff event. how would you describe this run for you? >> i mean it's tough to explain. i've just been working so hard. all i want to do is win, and that's kind of the mentality ever since the open championship. something changed in my head and i felt like it was my time to start winning tournaments. ever since then, it's been a phenomenal run. i mean my whole team is fantastic, from cole to bud to my wife to cornell, who's my trainer. i mean the main goal was to get to number one and we understood that you had to win consistently and you had to win to get to that number one spot. so just to be able to have the opportunity to get to number one and win was fantastic.

>> you have not been shy about the fact that ever since you were a little boy you have dreamed about becoming the number one player in the official world golf ranking. you knew what was at stake this week. how much pressure did you put on yourself to perform to get it done here when you had that chance? >> i felt a lot of pressure the last few days, especially today, just knowing that i had a six-shot lead. things could happen. some guys could shoot a low score or i could shoot 1, 2 or 3 over and all of a sudden i'm not winning and i'm not number one. you know, yesterday and today was the toughest round i've ever had to play in my entire life, just knowing that i had the opportunity to get to number one. stepping up and playing the way i did today was -- was great, just to really understand what i put into my game to get to where it is today. >> you've certainly stepped up. congratulations, jason. we'll see you next week. >> thanks, mate.

be able to be instrumental in bringing the united states with cuba relations, he does remarkable things. >> today the pope also issued a personal invitation for people to join him when he celebrates mass next weekend in philadelphia. the pope arrives here in washington on tuesday. and people in our area cannot wait for his arrival. today there was a papal party for some very lucky students who will get to see the pope on wednesday. news 4's darcy spencer talked to those students in silver spring. >> it's a papal party with the silver spring home and kids with intellectual disabilities enjoying the catholic coalition for the celebration and making it even more special many of these kids will get to meet the pope when he visits washington this week. >> we hope that we can count on the holy father's visit to washington to help share the word about the importance and value of serving students with

temperatures today were in the 0 70s and low 80s and look at how much cooler we'll be tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow in the 60s and low 70s. the high tomorrow in the district is 69 and only 65 in gaithersburg and 66 in leesburg and all of the latest timing hour by hour with future weather coming up in a bit. redskins used a powerful running game and that defense to beat the st. louis rams today and get their first win of the season. >> carol maloney is live at fedex field with reaction from the team. >> erica, can you believe it? the redskins can. they si thay this is just how t scripted, a dominating defense and the promise of the running game from last week. so the redskin, they avoided that dreaded 0 and 2 start, and it was a rookie who stole the show. rookie matt jones.

he came in here and he's a big, bruising third-round pick and redskins admitted afterward that this was a must-win game and that new big, bruising back that carried him to victory. first quarter, here comes the rookie matt jones and down the side lines and 31 yards near the touchdown and huge career, and redskins take a 7-0 lead. fourth quarter, redskins lead 17-10 and they'll call jones' number again and third-round pick out of florida pounds in from three yards out and 123 yards and two for jones. redskins win it 24-10, running with power, winning with pride. the rookie matt jones is just one of the keys for this victory. the defense also for the second straight game only allows ten points and we will talk about the redskins coming up later in the show. erika? >> the republican presidential hopeful ben carson on "meet the

you're watching news 4 at 6:00. five years later, way over budget, but the silver spring transit center is finally open for business and this means changes for some riders who use metro or ride on busses through downtown silver spring. news 4's derek ward explains. >> officially, it's the sarbanes center named after the late maryland senator, two levels of bus stops and short-term riding, kiss & lock, and bike sharing, all linked to metro and rail. >> we have 120 busses that will be coming here during the peak on weekdays. >> and gets the busses off the

street of silver spring and bus stops are rendered obsolete. riders who think it will shorten their commutes. >> yeah. i think it will. i think it actually will. >> theirs was a year-long delay after structural issue arose concerned about the concrete being strong enough for the traffic. after some building and reinforcement, the officials say it's ready. >> the changes are great, but it will take some getting used to. >> they don't know where the busses will be. >> not yet, but give me time. i'll figure it out. >> we have signs up informing people of the changes for the busses here, but we're also going have extra staff on hand here to make sure everybody knows where they're going. >> and hopefully, help get them there a little quicker, as well. >> in silver spring, derek ward, news 4. nice, cool change outside that i'm sure everybody can really appreciate and take notice of. when is the official start to fall? >> fall will officially begin wednesday morning at 4:21. tomorrow, though, it will be the coolest out of the week. it's a long-sleeve kind of day outside.

temperatures are only going to warm into the 60s and low 70s across the area and that's your first weather headline and there are only minor rain chances in the forecast. some scattered showers around tomorrow, and no beneficial rain and our month to date rainfall deficit now stands at about two inch peps so we do need some rain. there is uncertainty in the forecast tuesday, friday and saturday. i'll have more on that in just a not in, but for tomorrow, despite the weather and the clouds it's a day you want to keep the umbrella handy. you might not need to use it and i recommend the kids wear long sleeves to school at least in the morning and maybe a light jacket and it will be a cool start and temperatures in the 70s and 79 in washington and clouds will increase overnight tonight and any early morning sunshine tomorrow will quickly give way to cloudy skies. so notice here at 7:00 a.m. and maybe some peaks of sun. here we are at 9:00 a.m. and plenty of clouds and showers back around the mountains and areas like laray and winchester.

by noon, notice the areas are still dry and an isolated shower potential and otherwise overcast skies. the best chance of rain in the metro area tomorrow will be in the afternoon and evening hours. notice how anemic future weather is and only light showers possibly. about a 40% chance that you're dealing with rain tomorrow and the evening commute is looking good as well as the morning commute. we could still be dealing with the shower overnight monday into very early tuesday. monday starting off with a temperature of 61. highs tomorrow in the upper 60s to low 70s in the metro area, otherwise plenty of clouds on tuesday. still eye cloudy day and we'll keep it dry and a little bit warmer and high of 75, wednesday night, 79 for a high on thursday and the uncertainty really on friday and saturday. temps in the mid to upper 70s. a bit breezy both days and keeping a close eye on an area of rain and right now i think this will stay to our south and if it does move northward, the most likely time period for rain will be friday night into the
