new today, it's getting easier to travel to and do business with cuba. new regulations go into effect this morning. they allow american companies, including telecommunications and internet providers, to open locations and hire workers in cuba. now, as far as travel, you can take a cruise directly to cuba. restrictions are also easing up on visitors. they report that the obama administration might not vote against a u.n. resolution. cuba introduces every year to lift embargo and that could be a first. aaron, that vote is next month. new this morning, two americans held hostage in yemen are now on their way home. sam farren and scott darden

arrived last night. the u.n. ambassador was there to greet them. darden was there working for his company and farren was working for a security department when they were taken back in march. now, a story out of selma, alabama. three people are killed there. minter is charged with shooting and ki his girlfriend, baby, and minister. all three are in fair condition right now. they're working to find people behind several shootings on an interstate. however, one person arrested so far says police have the wrong guy. leslie merritt jr. said he pawned his gun and didn't have it during the shootings three and four weeks ago. the police have linked his gun

to four of those shootings. he's held in jail on a $1 million bond. people are oklahoma after their boat flipped over. take a look at this. they say the boat was totally under water by the time they arrived. all 19 boaters were wearing lifejackets when the boat capsized. no word on why it flipped over. happening today, a former peanut company expectative will learn his fate. st stewart parnell will eleven his fate. they're recommending a life sentence. today the anne arundel county executive will introduce a bill to ban medical marijuana. county council members will begin debating the bill next month.

you can be part of a public hearing today at a conference center in anne arundel county. they say it will cost about $25,000. the county is creating a tax district to support the development. once it's built they should have a new 17-story 300-room hotel and a 25,000 square foot convention center. it was a historic night at the 67th annual emmys. viola davis became the first black actress to win in a drama and she acknowledged the moment in an emotional and powerful speech. >> people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, sexy, to be a heeding woman, to be black. r the other big winners of the night included jon hamm. after seven nominations he finally won for his portrayal of don draper.

boyfriend michael mccarthy. >> i believe everything that came out of her mouth. >> now, police eventually identified the girl as bella bond. a woman is recovering in the hospital after she fell from the rocks in scots park in mclean. she was awake and talking after the incident. they put her in the rescue basket and used a u.s. parks helicopter and took her to the hospital. this morning a prince george's county firefighter continues to remain in the hospital after a devastating fire.

take a look at this scene. the firefighter is being treated for second and third-degree burns. a second firefighter was shocked walking through a waterlogged basement at the springfield home. he's been released from the hospital when the fire broke out on endicott place. investigators are still not clear what sparked that fire. today a train company is taking new steps in the hopes to build a high-speed rail line. it's opening headquarters. they want to build a train that would take 15 minutes to travel between the two city. mayor larry hogan says he supports that technology. tracking right now orange line delays here to new carrollton this point this morning and we have this crash eastbound. this and much more coming up. also ahead, an emotional weekend for people in cuba as

it was a close call for family after their boat goes up in flames. take a look at that. this happened off the coast of galveston, texas. thanks to a few good samaritans, they survive what could have been a tragedy. two men were chartering a nearby fishing boat when they smelled burning fuel and fiberglass. they rushed into action and managed to rescue the entire family before the boat sank. luckily only one person was

we're staying on top of breaking news right now. a freight train killed a man on sunny side avenue. >> melissa mollet is keeping an eye on any possible delays at the "first4 traffic" center but let's begin with derrick ward live at the scene with more on this investigation.

derrick? >> reporter: good morning. this happened on sunny sign avenue in the beltsway area. it happened this morning. it struck a person on the tracks in this general area here. that train was 57 cars long. it was headed to new york from tampa, florida. now, i don't have much information on the victim. as we said, though, this rail line through here is shared with m.a.r.c. trains. but there are two lines here. that would possibly alleviate any delays. we have seen m.a.r.c. trains moving south. we don't know much about the delays but with more on that, here's melissa mollet. >> orange line delays in new carrollton, green and yellow line delays in both directions. more coming up. it is now 6:47.

the pope is on his way in less than 24 hours. like many of you, we are counting down his visit. you can look for your alert on the nbc 4 washington app and we'll show you when the president and first lady welcome him. he's coming to the u.s. after making history in havana. the cuban government estimates as many as 300,000 were there as he celebrated at the plaza de la revolution. jay, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the pope continues his tour of the island travelinging to the east where he'll spend siem time ultimately in santiago, delivering a mass there, before preparing for his trip on tuesday in washington to begin the u.s. tour. it's what many are call ang amazing memorable meaningful

historical weekend, all the superlatives you can throw in. to listen to the pope speak. before he began the mass, he spent 20 to 30 minutes touring around the square, visiting and waving to the followers who had gathered. really an emotional time. an exciting time for many who had traveled so far. in clugd some who made the pilgrimage to be here as he made that speech, delivered that mass. it's the first time the cubans have heard mass delivered from a pope in their native tongue. that was part of the thrill for many here. he spent the rest of his afternoon or at least the bulk of it in private meeting with fidel castro and later with raul who's the current president. he did say evening prayers with some of the priests and seminarians and closed out what was a long and busy day with
