this didn't happen in a metro station. we want to clarify that. this happened near the stadium armory station on the other side of east capitol street. this happened amid the morning rush. it's a transformer fire, we're told. this is on the grounds of rfk stadium's parking lot as those rails go underground it wasn't on the rail, but it did affect rail service. we understand no one was injured. firefighters were on the scene. they had to get under the tracks and get to that transformer to put that fire out. the affect is being felt all over the system. the orange line, all services is suspended between eastern market and minnesota avenue. you will find buses on either end of those stations to get to you your destination, get you on the other side of the closed stations. the silver line, service is suspended between eastern market

closures. and good monday morning, everybody. still a mostly cloudy sky in place. these clouds are leading to increasing chances for rain drops, still not much if anything in the way of rain inside the beltway just yet. there are rain drops in abundance along much of i 81. these rain drops have moved on to western parts of falkier county, culpeper county, this is progressing our general direction. it's already raining and chilly upper 50s and low 60s in the shenandoah valley. we're low 60s here. as you plan out your afternoon, with the arrival of the showers, temperatures won't budge much. mid to upper 60s, might touch 70 briefly before the rain showers cool us down again. >> chuck, thank you. if tonight goes anything like this morning it will be a good first run for the new transit center in silver spring. structural issues delayed the opening for about a year.

there were concerns the concrete would not be able to support the massive number of bus traffic coming through montgomery county. silver spring officials say it is ready now after some rebuilding and reinforcement. in southeast wasngton, the council of american islamic relations or c.a.r.e. holding a news conference now calling on gop presidential candidate ben carson to withdraw from the race. this is after his comments to chuck todd on "meet the press" about a muslim commander in chief. listen. >> i would not advocate that we put a muslim in charge of this nation. i absolutely would not agree with that. >> dr. carson's reps say their candidate did not say muslims should be prevented from running for president, but he does not believe the american people are ready for a muslim president. this is happening just days after donald trump did not denounce a supporter who called president obama a muslim. experts believe both instances

are turning poll numbers in carly fiorina's favor. >> we just learned the name of dc's 115th homicide victim of the year. police say 28-year-old coran caleo died at the hospital. someone shot him on north capitol street near m street northwest last night. police offering a $25,000 reward for information on the gunman. and we're working to figure out how a person ended up on train tracks in prince george's county. the pedestrian was hit and killed by the train early this morning. this happened in beltsville on sunny side avenue. the accident did not affect morning train service. the next two weeks could be crucial for the redskins. starting with that match-up with the giants on the road just days from now. the skins could put the giants in an 0-3 hole. they could also stand to gain ground on the cowboys who lost tony romo to a broken collarbone. washington in second place after

new developments out of california right now where the huge valley and bute fire are both around 70% contained. another 160 homes burned in lake county north of san francisco. fire officials say the damage makes the valley fire the fourth worst ever in the state. five people died between those two fires. today the anne arundel county executive will introduce a bill to ban medical marijuana. the new law would stop any growing, processing and selling of the drug for medicinal use.

the council members will debate the bill next month. four votes are needed for a ban. today we'll find out who is replacing shawn williams on the loudoun county board of supervisors. williams resigned earlier this month after he was arrested on assault charges. the board decided to appoint an interim replacement through the end of the year. 13 people applied. the board is holding a special meeting tonight to decide who it will be. what a difference a day makes. in 60 seconds, chuck

winchester to culpeper. these rain drops coming in our direction. here is future weather. prot gresing of the rain drops by 12:45, rain in fairfax county, northern montgomery county. by 2:00 in the afternoon, 3:00, 4:00, almost the entirety of the metro area will be rained on for a stretch of a couple hours here, mid to late afternoon and early this evening with time, after about 8:00, 9:00, the first batch of rain should move away. we'll be left with cloudy skies and hit or miss showers. >> thank. this morning a northern virginia family is mourning the loss of a husband and father. jacob brewer died during the ride to conquer cancer. an suv hit him on his bike on saturday. he worked as a white house staffer. he leaves behind a pregnant wife and a young daughter.

a go fund me page has been set up for the family. nbc 4 was a partner in the ride to conquer cancer. a train company wants to get you from d.c. to baltimore in 15 minutes. northeast maglev is opening a new head quarters in baltimore today. the company builds magnet iic livtation trains it wants to build one to take you from here to new york even. the pope may not arrive in town for more than 24 hours, one of the biggest traffic headaches is about to set in we'll so he you what you want to avoid and when.

. this is your first 4 traffic. this week we'll have a lot of headaches downtown as far as road closures go. we'll take this step by step for you. first thing to think about, because of the pope's visit, tonight at midnight here, all the way until thursday, the 24th, at 4:00 p.m., going to have that big closure right in front of the vatican embassy. we're talking about northbound massachusetts avenue will be shut down right there between observatory circle and 34th street. as far as those southbound lanes, it will be allowed traffic from 34th street over to waterside drive. we'll have more developing throughout this week.

right now dozens of employees are helping people find their way around the brand-new transit center in silver spring. after a year of delays, it's finally open to the people in montgomery county. >> molette green covered the commute for us today. what's happening now? >> you know, when you relocate about 30 bus stops, it's a no-brainer what will be the most anticipated question of the day. >> the question asked over and over -- >> where is the 70 bus. >> reporter: in a hurry some run to bus stops, others run in circles trying to find the right bay. not the way to start off the day. >> it's not going good. >> reporter: the first rush hour morning for the new silver spring transit center where metro, ride-on and other shuttles come under a two-level concrete roof along with the taxicabs and connections to

live in downtown silver spring, molette green. today the retrial begins for a man accused of molesting two girls in northern virginia. michael gardner is the former head of the falls church democratic committee. he's accused of molesting the girls at his daughter's sleepover in 2011. virginia's supreme court overturned his conviction. the court said character evidence was wrongly excluded from his defense. and we have a cloudy sky overhead. one or two little slivers of sunshine getting through here in northwest. there's an awful lot of rain out there. all clouds from this point forward for the remainder of the day with periods of rain likely. nothing all that heavy. enough rain to get the roads wet. it's been a while since we had much in the way of rainfall. temperatures now upper 50s and low 60s in the shenandoah valley. rains have been steady. temperatures milder in the metro. there's the rain showers along i

>> riders traveling should pack some patietience today. derrick ward has the latest on the delays there. >> good morning again. 1÷ metro is doing to alleviate those delays. these are some of the shuttle buses being fed up here at the stadium armory station. this fire did not happen at the station. it happened a short distance away in the rfk parking lot, but it's felt in the metro system. because primarily it happened amid the morning rush. sometime before 8:00 this morning a fire broke out in a transformer in a traction station in the rfk parking lot. this is just as those rails go from overhead to underground at the parking lot. did not happen in the station or on the tracks. no one was injured. train service was greatly affected. they cut off the trains coming to this station. it was closed. i can tell you about some delays

developing now, the fbi looking for two men who pulled off a big jewelry heist in rockville. look at the pictures of the two suspects. one of them, this one here, had on a fake beard. the other was covered head to toe in a black robe. agents say they went into van jewelry store on viers mill road with guns last tuesday and ordered employees to get on their knees. the thieves emptied several display cases and stole $110,000. according to the fbi, they left in an older white car, possibly a honda or toyota with a white paper temporary registration plate. there's a $5,000 reward in the case. back to you. in your weather headlines, finally a cloudy day and a cool day as well. if we don't make it to 70 today, that will be the first time since june 4th that d.c. didn't make it to 70 or higher.

there's a new push to change the name of the football stadium at the university of maryland. byrd stadium is named for former maryland president carl byrd. some say he was racist and segregationist and that the name should be changed. they delivered a letter to the university president asking him to bring the issue to the school's board. they've asking him to deliver that letter by november 4th. we can tell you more about the u.s. plan to take in

arrested the wrong guy. leslie merritt jor. is in jail n $1 million bond. police say his gun was used in the shootings over the last four weeks, however merritt's father says his gun was not used. >> in a high profile case it takes weeks to get forensics in t his case it took 24 hours? >> the merritts claim that leslie merritt jr. pawned the gun. he is accused of four shootings of nearly a dozen. the book that is shaking things and making big allegations against one of the most well known politicians in the world.
