these buses to go home. >> a lot going on. it's ridiculous right now. >> mostly i'm glad everyone was able to get off safely. >> reporter: the good news is no one got hurt during the evacuation and metro is trying to figure out why the train lost power right now. i'm shomari stone, news4. >> all this comes one day after metro shut down service on the orange, blue and silver lines at stadium armory for an electrical fire. now, a change.org petition has nearly 2,000 signatures asking pope francis to bless the metro system. make sure you check in the morning so you're ready for delays or detours around the pope's parade route. >> right now, pope francis is spending his first night in the united states. a live look at the vatican embassy on massachusetts avenue, where the pope will stay while he's in washington.

tonight, the catholic bis p bishops who gathered here to see him say excitement is building in anticipation of the message he'll deliver tomorrow. >> he's inviting us all to rise above what may divide us culturally or politically and to greater service to one another. >> it all starts tomorrow morning at the white house. president and mrs. obama will roll out the red carpet for the holy father and tens of thousands will gather to watch his parade around. >> that's where we find darcy spencer with the story. darcy. >> reporter: tomorrow is this pope's first full day at the nation's capitol and it will be your first chance to glimpse the pope in the popemobile. around 9:15 tomorrow morning he will meet with the president and first lady. they will greet the pope at the white house and then have a

private meeting with him. about 15,000 people are being allowed onto the grounds to welcome the pope in this morning. then, about 11:00 in the morning, that's the big event, the much anticipated papal parade, when the pope rides in that open popemobile. who knows what he might do? might get out and shake hands and kiss some babies. he will go around the ellips. and about 15,000 people get to be around the parade route and your best photo opportunity. we talked to some people and some hoping to see the pope and others not going to try. >> after seeing what the security is going to be at 4:00 in the morning, it will be a mess. >> reporter: you're not going to try? >> no. >> i'm short so it would vary what i would see. if i was 6'5", i might go. >> reporter: you're hoping you might get a glimpse of him tomorrow zblrch.

>> that we are hoping to get pictures for her school. >> reporter: they are from florida and flew up here just to see the pope. take a lack at this pap of the papal route. generally the popemobile rides along 15th street, constitution avenue and 17th street. make sure you bring your cameras out here. that is going to be your best chance to see him riding around in the popemobile. you will have to go through security to be able to be a part of this. the security entry gates open at 4:00 in the morning and close at 10:00 a.m. you have to be in place by then if you want to get in. the best part about it, it is all free if you can just get there in in time. back to you. >> darcy, thanks so much. there is some controversy tonight surrounding the guest list for the pope's visit to the white house in the morning. among those invited, a leader for transgender rights, gay catholic blogger and the first openly gay episcopal!

some curved are blasting the president trying to put pressure on the pope for social issues. representatives from the vatican and white house say they're not concerned and the guest list controversy will not sour tomorrow's events. >> after his time at the white house, his holiness heads to st. matthew's cathedral. bishops all around will be there beginning at 11:30 but it is not open to the public. when the pope arrives at st. matthew's, it will be hard to miss this sign across the street from the human rights commission and hope the pope gets the message from lbgt catholics asking the pope to welcome them back into the church. pope francis said before it's not his job to judge people based on their sexual orientation. >> after st. matthews, the pope

travels to the basilica shrine and perform the first canonization of a saint on u.s. soil. 25,000 people with tickets will get to watch that ceremony. the mass is scheduled about 4:00 p.m. we have more on the road closure and controversy surrounding the road closure. just search "basilica" on the washington app. dozens of children greeted the pope when he arrived. it lines with people trying to get their pictures of the pontiff as he drove with the windows down. jackie is live at the embassy with more on the excitement surrounding the pope's arrival. jackie. >> reporter: well, it's quiet here right now. that was certainly not the case earlier today. with the humble fiat came on massachusetts avenue. the children came from catholic schools in d.c., maryland and virginia. there were also a group of young f steres from the embassy of argentina all wearing light blue scarves. pope francis smiled and waved at them before going inside the residence that will be his temporary home. for the harrell family in d.c. even walking down the security perimeter was exciting. >> there's a lot of hostility in the world and we want to show him we love him and appreciate his coming and happy he's here and we're praying for him. >> reporter: there will likely be more crowds tomorrow as the pope begins his first full day in the nation's capitol. jackie bensen, back to you. >> the pope's motorcade turned heads for more than one reason

today. the car he waved from had some of us turning our head. he went with the modest 20,0$20 fiat instead of the suv. he had the license plate scv 1, the initials for vatican city state. people on social media loved it including fiat, as you might imagine. the italian automaker tweet tweeted #blessed. he rides around rome in a blue ford focus. also interesting to note, the first ever popemobile, a 1929 fiat. coming up in a couple minutes on news4 at 11:00 tonight, meet the girl from maryland who had one heck of a day this afternoon. not only did she get to dance with the president, she got to shake hands with the pope. let's talk about our weather now. a fall chill is definitely in

57 in winchester and 67 in d.c. nothing on the radar right now. all of this is dry air return. we're not seeing any rain across the region. one thing we could see is potential for a little bit of light fog in some areas. heads-up for that early tomorrow. we have clouds in southern maryland and you can see the white on the picture showing the area of cloudiness to the south and where we have clearing skies and parts of maryland and fairfax and loudoun county, that where i think we could be dealing with fog and the sun will burn it off quickly. the temperature will rise up to 78 in culpeper and 81 downtown. with sunshine tomorrow i think we will see abundant sunshine. speaking of that, if you're h d heading to the ellipse tomorrow, the weather is great. the basilica, 12:00, 75 degrees. 3:00, 81 degrees.
