looking at live right now, another vantage point. that's where he'll address members of congress in just a matter of hours. >> good morning to you, i'm eun yang. >> and e i'm angie goff. >> the capitol is one of many stops today as the pope kicks off his third day on american soil. >> he'll make his way to the capitol building. it's a six-mile trip. there will be many rolling closure this morning as the motorcade heads through town. the pope is expected to arrive at the capitol around 9:15 where where he'll then go into the speaker's ceremonial office. speaker of the house john boehner and pope francis will meet inside his office. after that they'll head to the house chamber for the pope's address. lawmakers are being told to limit their handshakes and side conversations with the pope as he enters. with more on this morning's veenlts, let's check in with "news4's" aaron gilchrist on the east side of the capitol. aaron, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you as well, eun.

we're on the east side of the capitol because this is where the pope will enter in just a few hours before he heads inside the speaker's office. this will look very much like what you're used to seeing with the state of theionion address. there will be all the lawmakers. members of the cabinet will be there, members of the supreme court will be there as well and the pope will speak for maybe about 40 minutes or. so we don't know exactly what he'll say, but as some people have talked about, maybe he might address some controversial issues. this pope is not one to stray away from those sorts of things. he sort of hinted yesterday that he'll be speaking about the white house. i believe this is something the former chemist will speak about again today. we'll all be listening very closely to see exactly what he talks about and how lawmakers here react to his message. many of the clergy from this area says the pope will speak as a member of the clergy. he will speak from a place of

megan mgrath is near the national mall. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. you can see to my left the stage that's set up. we're on third street at the national mall. they have everything to go for action on climate change that starts later on this morning. it gets under way around 11:30 and it will continue as pope francis speaks to congress later on this morning. environmental activists are thrilled. pope francis raised the issue again in his speech at the white house yesterday saying that climate change is a problem that can no longer be left to a future generation. now, we're starting to see some activity down here on the mall. people are here preparing iffer the concert. some of the preps getting under way for that. a lot of people have tickets to see the pope when he comes out on the west side of the u.s. capitol, when he makes some comments from the balcony. i spoke to a man who is encouraged by the pope's stand on the environment. he wants to hear more from him

it is now 5:24. developing in texas, an investigationing into a deadly police shooting. police say officers were trying to arrest a man when he pulled out a gun and started shooting. the officer shot back and killed him. no one else was hurt. hundreds of police officers showed theiru/&gñ respects for a kentucky state trooper killed in the line of duty. law enforcement from all over the state joined to support trooper cameron ponder's family last night. he was killed last week during a high-speed chase. they talk about the importance of bulletproof windshield and plan to provide better gear for the officers. a sheriff in phoenix has been ordered to stop. he admitted he kept doing the patrols for 18 months after he was ordered to stop. two years ago the zis contribute

enter through the east entrance. he'll then have a meeting with speaker john boehner before addressing congress. with more on this morning's news events, let's get to aaron gilchrist who's live from the capitol this morning. aaron, good morning. tell us where you are right now. >> reporter: this is the east side. not usually what we see. the other side is where we'll see pope francis. but he'll enter here. there will be vip guests waiting for him before he goes inside to speak to the speaker. and then the big speech he's going to give, that cease set to happen in the 9:00 hour this morning and we have not been given an advance read of what the pope will say while he's here, but he has sort of hinted at some of the topics he might touch upon in some of the speeches leading up to speaking with kochlk he may address climate change. he did that yesterday at the white house, for people to try to preserve our natural resources and to do better by

adam, at this point what roads are we trying to avoid early? >> reporter: well, you know, yesterday, angie, it was that side of pennsylvania ave you. the white house side that got all the attention. today it's basically seventh street and down toward the capit capitol. take a look at this. this is a busy imtntersection. you've got road closures and blockades all the way down. of course, the pope expected to get here a little bit later this morning. you know, they haven't been really specific about which route he's going to take. don't know exactly the route he's going to take from the vatican embassy down here, but plan on it being disruptive. there's those rolling closures and the fiat rolling through here. the good news is after he's done on capitol hill. st. patrick's is really not that far from here. so it's probably like 10th and ge. so he'll be able to get off of

kristin, do we know what the was of this explosion is right now? >> we don't know exactly why it happened at this point. what we know is two people were hurt and had to go to the hospital. we want to show you the pictures again from chopper 4. this was a big explosion as you can see, very destructive. the blaftz on sleepy horse lane destroyed not one but six homes. a electric and gas employee was at the home when the explosion went off. it was that person and another in the home that went to the hospital. they're expected to be just fine. police shot a man they say was creeping in the bushes outside of a virginia woman's home on lake drive in manassas. investigators say he raised a crowbar at a prince williams police officer. that officer pepper sprayed him. police say he ran and then

threatened the officer again with the crowbar. according to police, that's when the officers fired. >> how many shots did you hear fired? ? >> two shots rapid, bam, bam. >> the police want to question him and find out what hoe was doing outside. they say the two did. know each other. more than 5.5 million people had their fingerprint stolen. the agent see thinks 2 million were affected. president obama is expected to talk about cyber security when he meets with china's president today. the white house has not publicly blamed china or taken any action at this point. angie and eun, back to you. >> all right. a busy morning indeed. thanks so much, kristin.
