united states. mass has just ended. >> reporter: hi, erika, you can still hear the music going on at the papal mass. for the last time on u.s. soil, pope francis celebrated mass on the benjamin franklin parkway. an early estimate of 16,000 faithful attended. this was the culmination of the world meeting of families, emphasizing the importance of love and tolerance in the family. >> a family which shows that the spirit is alive and at work will encounter and find our gratitude and appreciation regardless of what people religion or region to which they belong. >> children brought the pope

some gifts before the communion during the mass. he kissed 15 children on the way to mass in the pope children. people crowded the streets to meet the pope and they were met with intense security. >> you cannot get through here. you have to go that way. >> go that way. >> reporter: police work to direct the crowd after confusion over where to stand in line for security checkpoints. >> people cutting through were slowing the line down so now they are chasing people up to 19th street. >> some people try the to jump the secure fences to try to get into the right line. >> get down. no, no. absolutely not. >> reporter: this visitor and his son decided to sit down and calm down so they wouldn't arrive at mass carrying frustration oranger. >> we waited for two hours on that line there then told to go

they are not giving up in their fight for justice. let's go to video of that rally held earlier this afternoon and advocates including those from the naacp are still pushing for deputies involved in the restraining and tasering of natasha mckenna of the adult detention center to be prosecuted. the state's attorney has previously said that those deputies would not be charged and called it a tragic accident. she suffered from mental illness. her attorney released photos in her hospital bed before she died. he questioned why she could not have been sedated instead of tasered four times. >> there was no excuse for not doing what protocol in every hospital in the united states, every hospital in the united states and every federal prison uses. and this is not some podunk county in the middle of virginia. this is fairfax.

>> reporter: we did reach out to the fairfax county sheriff's office for a comment but we have not yet heard back. we should also mention they stopped using tasers at the jail. >> thank you so much. >> it has become a familiar spot for violence in recent weeks. last night police found another person dead and two others in critical condition in southeast. police were called after somebody reported hearing gunshots. did see police towing a car this morning. there are no suspects ats this time. in prince william, they are looking for a man who tried to hit a police sergeant with an suv. this happened is the an arts and crafts show. the suv almost hit the sergeant while he was trying to stop it from entering a restricted area. the sergeant was not hurt and police found the car abandoned later on. it may have been connected to another hit-and-run. a big break for all the federal workers in our region, why the chances of a government

welcome news for all federal workers in our area. john boehner says the government will not shut down. he spoke on "face the nation" and said the house and senate will pass a bill to keep the government running. his comments come on the heels of his bombshell announcement of the resignation at the end of october. well, it was only a matter of time before police caught up with this lady seen on social media riding a sea turtle. this is one of the most talked about stories on our nbc washington facebook page. the picture went viral when it hit social media in july. the woman appears to be righting an endangered sea turtle in florida. police arrested the woman today. she's facing very serious charges including disturbing a marine turtle, which is a

it was a terrible tragedy, because of that tragedy five other lives were saved through organ donation. today they were honored for their life saving decisions. here's the story. >> reporter: a meeting among strangers, warmth and familiarity of old friends, this is a born out of a life cut short, the 23-year-old adler. >> great promise and great ability and great love and life. >> characteristics that would endure beyond her tragic death three years ago. she was struck and killed by a truck while jogging downtown. she was an organ donor. >> it was even a topic of dinner table conversation in our family. >> reporter: they were grieving a life lost, they were in the midst of a crisis of their own. her nagging cough turned into

tomorrow morning, specifically our commute looking like? >> there's going to be areas of fog and drizzle. that could slow the morning commute and it's going to be humid, not only tomorrow but tuesday as well. our high today was 75. tomorrow a little bit warmer and this is one of those weeks you need to find your umbrella and keep it handy. you might even need the big rain boots. we only pulled those out a few times. tuesday night into early wednesday, heavy rain potentially in the forecast but much needed rain. rain is most likely later in the day on tuesday into early wednesday and a little bit of uncertainty in the forecast toward the end of the week on into next weekend. tomorrow the weather having a low to moderate impact on your day. patchy fog and drizzle early and scattered showers and maybe even an isolated thunderstorm around later in the day. not a definite you're dealing with rain tomorrow but the risk is there. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. 70s currently in washington. here's a school day forecast at the bus stop. temperature around 67 with the

fog. it's humid and muggy and temperature of 74 and by dismissal, kids could be dealing with scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm because of the increase in humidity, highs tomorrow near 80 degrees. so the humidity levels, where do they fit tomorrow and tuesday? kind of in the sticky area. tuesday though at times it could even feel a little bit oppressive as far as the humidity is concerned. something we don't often talk about in fall, future weather showing you rain chances. here we are at noon. isolated showers and otherwise cloudy skies maybe peaks of late day sun tomorrow. notice the widely scattered light activity on monday. not necessarily the case on tuesday. patchy fog once again, early in the morning, look at what approaches at noon. areas of heavy rain tuesday evening for that evening commute. notice the bright colors down around fredericks burg. something to keep an eye on. high tuesday of 80 degrees. and as far as the severe risks are concerned tuesday, pretty low risk we would see any high

boy an exciting day after all for the nats. >> you know, the irony is they had a promotion yog ga in the outfield after the game. maybe it would have calmed things down. showing fight what the nats fans wanted to see instead it reduced to teammates fighting. and today on fan appreciation day no less, push came to shove and more between bryce sharp harper and jonathan papelbon. he hoped the nats would spend the rest of the season together as a team. so this instance steps from the bottom of the eighth, as he walks back, papelbon is chirping at him, seems to be upset he didn't run out the fly ball. as harper hit the dugout they exchange words and papelbon then lounges at harper, his neck, pushes him into the wall and the two have to be separated by teammates, matt williams said papelbon will be suspended.

and meanwhile, papelbon, top of the ninth, game tied at four. takes papelbon deep to center for a two-one homer, phillies win 12-5. after the game, papelbon owned up to it. >> first of all, i'd say i'm in the wrong. i'll leave that up to our manager. i grew up with brothers and he grew up with brothers. i view him as a brother with mine. sometimes in this game there's a lot of testosterone and a lot of intensity that spills over. >> he apologized, whatever. i really don't care. next six days keep doing what i'm doing. like brothers fighting. hopefully move forward and do what i can the next six days and play the game. >> glad i'm an only child. now to the hitting in football. the cowboys know all too well

dallas, 39-28. eagles play the red skin next week today looking for the first win against the jets. second quarter, sproels, he shows off, breaks free for a 89 yard punt return for touchdown. eagles up 10-0 and lead as much as 24-0. fourth quarter now. it's a 10-point game. eagles have the ball. ryan matthews, fumbles the ball and jets recover and now suddenly remember the big lead, things look dicey for the eagles. but the second play of the next jets drive, fitzpatrick's pass, going to be tipped and intercepted by jordans, eagles win 24-17. philadelphia improves to 10-0 all time against the jets. to baltimore for the ravens, never started the season 0-3, facing bengals, wild ending,
