the latest on ba keen is coming up at 5:21. good morning. a brand-new crash on the outer loop of the beltway. looks like nothing is slowing down at this point. we'll keep an eye on that one for you here. looking at 66, you can see a lot of rain over that area. 95 northbound pretty dry here. southbound, we have a little bit of a delay here in dale city. taking a big look at beltway, under some rain right now. glebe road at 395 here. no problems in taking a look here at 270. you can see we're clear from frederick to the spur, taking you 27 minutes. nice and green. back in ten minutes. >> and like chuck said, we're keeping an eye on hurricane joaquin. joaquin in the atlantic right now moving toward the bahamas. hurricane warnings are in effect there. right now you see people getting

ready for the big storm. winds are gusting up to 120 miles an hour. the islands could get well over a foot of rain. like chuck said, we'll have more on how joaquin will affect us coming up in a few minutes. >> up and down the east coast here in the u.s., officials are preparing for possible landfall of the hurricane. emergency crews held a meeting last night to discuss resources. flood water. local fire departments say everyone should be thinking about their own emergency plans. >> a state of emergency is in effect in virginia. in leesburg they're asking drivers to get off the roadways as soon as the rain starts to fall on friday. today in charles county, officials are offering people free sandbags at their emergency

right now we're keeping an eye on the rain in our area. we're getting ready for a nor'easter. by sunday, we could be dealing with a hurricane. more on that. a man has one last hearing before his trial. charles severance faces charges in the deaths of three alexandria residents. the defense says he does not plan to plead guilty by reason of insanity, but they want to use his mental condition to

explain writings the prosecution says proves his guilty. severance's trial starts monday. and the sex offender who faces charges in the death of two sisters. 12-year-old katharine lyon and 10-year-old sheila lyon disappeared on their way to the mall. they never crime home. the police never found their bodies either. we expect the judge will appoint a jury to the case. at this point police do not believe the same person is responsible for all of them. watchful neighbors may be all that kept a 23-year-old woman from becoming the latest victim tuesday night. ali sorby said he heard a scream, a shrill one, like he never heard before. he jumped off the couch.

flooding. i'm down here at the bottom of king street and what we normally see is water coming right up here on king street. we have a number of businesses that are in this low lying area, and what we're expecting to see are these businesses getting ready. they'll be bringing out the sandbags. putting them up in front of the doors to make sure water doesn't get inside the business should we see the flooding that is possibly heading our way. two systems as you mentioned. we've got a nor'easter that's going to bring potentially a lot of rain and everyone is keeps a close eye on hurricane joaquin to see exactly where that's going to land and how much rain we'll get with that. we had trouble yesterday. take a look at this video. lots of rain falling in loudoun county we had flooding issues there. this is hamilton station road looking out. the floodwaters actually put a big hole right in the middle of the road. that i had to shut everything

lens. today, tomorrow, saturday, sunday, a long stretch of wet weather coming our way and the latest information now on hurricane joaquin. this is the latest forecast track from the national hurricane center. this is now officially a major hurricane. a category three storm overnight with sustained winds at 120 miles per hour. expected to continue intensifying a little bit. could be a category 4 storm by the end of the day today and a big impact down in the bahamas today and tomorrow. where it goes after that is the million-dollar question. this is a hujt change from just six or eight hours ago. last night the computer model had that storm icon sitting almost on top of washington as we get get into late monday. the new track keeps the scepter of circulation off the eastern seaboard at least through southern new jersey. it still leaves new york and new england in danger as we get

toward tuesday and wednesday of next week. but for us, the new track and new information keeping it farther to the east and potentially keeping the center offshore is a huge break for us from a wind perspective. still expecting an enormous amount of rain over the next couple of days. so start getting ready now. get the gutters and downspouts cleans out. if you have a basement with stuff in it that you care about, you want to move it above basement level. wind and rain coming for today. light and moderate showers. but tomorrow and saturday, the nor'easter. before that, the nor'easter means a lot of wind-driven rain around here for tomorrow and for saturday. there will be a high impact event, weather alert days of friday and saturday. it means more frequent updates and the alt of rainfall we could be seeing could be quite extreme. potential 3 to 6 inches.
