on prince george's border. not clear right now whether that suspect was hit or if anyone shot at the officer. there is a search under way for the suspect. >> this has always been a safe nand till the past few years. >> i live right down the street from that. i don't want to live in an area where that's going on. >> neighbored are on edge and police want to know who shot and killed man near a montgomery county playground. many families tack their kids to play at edgewood city park. police don't have the name of the person who was killed yet afternoon achlt woman told police she heard at least four shots. police searched the woods near the bridge chaney area in silver spring but did not find the shooter. they're offering up to $10,000 for information leading to his arrest. today we could find out if a man will stand trial for beating

a man. prosecutors say speier randomly attacked kevin sutherland on july 4th on the metro station. the results are expected to be discussed today. the prisoner who escaped from a fairfax county hospital wants to withdraw his guilty plea. he pleaded guilty to using a gun in the assault of two security guards during his escape. his lawyers say he voluntarily entered that plea and wants it tossed out. he's to be sentenced for at least 32 years in prison. a high school teacher has been charged with prostitution and solicitation of a minor. we have a copy of a let their went home with students yesterday. in it the glen l principle says a long-term substitute teach ler

statements were made to investigators will be allowed in court. freddie gray died a week after suffering a spinal injury in police custody. metro has avoided a takeover by the top country safety board. they proposed a plan to pump every oversight of metro but the "washington post" is reporting that transportation secretary anthony fox said no. instead fox favor as plan that would focus on reforms that would strengthen stateover sight of metro. the ntsb wanted to shift oversight to the federal raid road and administration. starting in 2016 the key bring will undergo a major renovation prospect. we were taken insiepd under to show spots that need repair. it will make the bridge stronger and safer and should not require any full-time lane closures. that work will last two years. breaking news on the roads right now.

injured after dam blew up. it was in central washington. investigators are working to find out why. six workers in total were hurt. the structure itself didn't have any structural damage. however, this is in the rural part of the state. some people don't have cell service or power right now. our area has some of the longest traffic delays in the nation, but there's always somebody who has it worse, but here it is. this is a traffic jarjs huge, outside beijing. >> you can't even tell those are cars? >> this is on china's busiest highway. it's a 50-lane highway that merges into 20 lanes. >> mind blown. >> thousands of cars, bumper to bumper. they returned after a national holiday. we thaw coming back from the beach is bad. >> this is where you say it's not good to driver. bicycles. >> coming up on 11 minutes after

breaking news right now in prince george's county we have megan mcgrath on the way to the scene. sounds like a semi went down an overpass, flipped over onto suitland parkway. sit down between forestville road and pennsylvania avenue. more details on this ahead. eun? >> thank you, melissa. in just a few hours president obama heading for roseburg to meet with the families of victims killed in a college shooting. he plans to meet privately with the family and has no plans to talk publicly about gun control while he's there. after that he'll stop in seattle for two democratic fund-raisers. the "washington post" says president obama is seriously considering executive action to require strong background checks for gun buyers. it will call for dealers who

sell a certain amount to require a license and perform a background check. others will need to have a federal license who buys them occasionally or has a collection. he's bringing leaders of fema to meade in columbia and charleston. he'll talk about the emergency response so far and what can be done to help the area recover. now, the new fear in south carolina is that the storm water will rush down swollen rivers toward the coast. hundreds more people are evacuating and standing water could last for at least the next two weeks. 70 dams in danger now and 14 have been breached. >> that water came and in a lot of cases that water receded. wh what's going to happen now is another convenient coming down. we're looking at all of those water flows heading down that way. >> more than 250 roads are

closed throughout the state and columbia is expecting more rain this weekend. police in sacramento are looking for two men who attacked an american hero. spencer stone was stabbed multiple times after getting in a fight wednesday night. he's had surgery and is now in stable condition. the u.s. airman is helped with a recent terror stop in france. police say it isn't related to terrorism. there's a new case of a black man fatally shout by a white police officer in south carolina. last night the city council unanimously approved a $650,000 settlement with the family of walter scott. slagle is in jail charged with murder after the shooting. >> the council is sending a message loud and clear that this kind of reckless behavior of law

enforcement will not and shall not be tolerated. >> slager remains in jail without bond. scott said it's donating a portion of the money to flood relief across the state. researchers say they've found a simple blood test that can rule out heart attacks more quickly. the test is said to measure a protein in a perrin end's bloochltd they call it a more accurate way of using the blood test and can send patients home quicker if they're not having a heart attack. well, if you're wonder wheng is the boost time to get your flu shot, it is right now. that is because october is the beginning of flu season and it take two weeks for the body to build immunity against the virus. doctors say it's expected to be better than last year, which last year's was only 19% i effective. breaking news now. a truck crashes off the beltway onto suitland parkway. i want to show you some pictures

fighting isis in the same area. they're worried because russian officials didn't warn them of missiles traveling through the airspace. two u.s. planes have had to avert. this morning the autopsy shows the state of oklahoma used the wrong drug during an inmate execution earlier this year. apparently they used potassium acetate to execute charles warner back in january. were supposed to use potassium color ride. this news comes after another oklahoma inmate's execution was halted because of the wrong drug. the drug used on warner was a longer more painful death. the preferred drug stops someone's heart quickly and safely. the navy will use sonar and other means to track down the

breaking news on the road. prince george's county is where this problem ishis morning. so the crash started at the outer loop of pennsylvania avenue. it went down suit land parkway. suit land shut down between forestville road and pennsylvania avenue. megan mcgrath is on the scene. she just arrived. megan, what do you know? what are you seeing out there right now? >> reporter: well, melissa, you can see the large police presence behind me here and the closure that's going to be in place for a while as we have this tractor trailer down on suitland parkway. we had this happen a little while ago. it was traveling on the nout of

the beltway, went over the overpass at suitland parkway and for whatever reason the driver lost control, went off of that overpass and down the suitland parkway. it's closed in both directions between forestville road. you can see the tractor trailer and the mess here. we don't have any word on the condition of the drive over that tractor trailer at this point. we don't know if they were injured or not. also, no word on what happened, why that driver lost control and went off the overpass and down onto the suitland parkway, but obviously this is going to have a large traffic impact this morning. you're not going to be able to take the suitland parkway for a while here as they clean this mess up. back to you in the studio. >> all right. megan. we'll check back in with you. thanks. we're expecting a warm and possibly wet day today. >> let's turn right to amelia segal and your headlines.

his injuries. if you look behind me, you see all the rescue on the scene. this is the outbound side of suit land parkway. since we last spoke they have reopened the inbound side of inbound suitland. folks trying to get in, you can now do that, but the closure on the other side, the outbound side, basically you're going to be detoured at forestville road and it's closed between forest ville and route 4. this happened not long ago. a tractor trailer was actually driving on outer loop of the beltway right as it passes -- there's an overpass that goes over the top of suts land parkway. for some reason the driver of that tractor trailer lost control, flipped off of that overpass and the truck fell down onto the suitland parkway and the driver was killed not sure exactly why the driver lost control. that's all a part of the investigation.
