>> you're right, molette. it's turned much chillier in the wake of last night's temperatures. it's turned much cooler on this saturday morning after the thundershowers. look at the radar history, over the last several hours the rain pushed well to our south now. that's going to stay that way from southern virginia into the carolinas. that will be advancing to the east but staying well south of the metro area where they had that rain in south carolina. another round of moderate to heavy rain is about to move right through there. for us, we're drying out and our temperatures are down into the low 50s northern western suburbs. shenandoah valley, generally in the mid-50s although down to a chilly 43 in oakland. closer to washington, nearby suburbs, montgomery, fairfax, prince george's county. upper 50s to around 60 degrees. a look at our chilliest night coming up tonight. that's a look at that coming up

in a few minutes. stay around. >> tom, we'll check in with you then. developing this morning, metro going to be under direct federal supervision because of safety lapses. the new regulations empower the federal transit administration to perform unannounced inspections and have direct control over correcting deficiencies, for example, the deadly smoke incident at lafont plaza. they have to immediately hireç capable general manager. in a statement, metro's interim gm promised to work closely with the new gm to improve safety. >> today you can be part of history as the 20th observance of the million man march hits the district. observers say they are expecting a big turnout at the justice or else rally. this is how the national mall looked 20 years ago. the march kicks off today on the west steps of the u.s. capitol with a sunrise service. the official program starts

around 10:00 a.m. the goal, organizers say is to incorporate call for justice for black men. nation of islam leader lewis farrakhan led the first million man march. death and video of an arrest led to massive protests. her family will take part in the justice or else rally on the national mall today. news 4's shomari stone spoke with sandra's mother on an interview you'll only see on news 4. >> it's kind of unexplainable right now as any parent that loses a child. >> reporter: geneva still grieves over the death of her daughter sandra bland. her mother told me why she's here in washington. >> to join with the rest of the mothers, the parents, who have suffered just this senseless

violence that has taken someone from our families. >> reporter: the medical examiner ruled sandra bland killed herself and there was no evidence of a struggle. bland spent three days in jail after being pulled over for a minor traffic violation. protesters insists she was the victim of a broken criminal justice system and claim there was a cover-up in her death. bland's mother is focused on raising awareness about police misconduct. >> i wish i didn't have to be here in this capacity. but because i have now been thrust into this position, you have to kind of unify with those who are going through the same thing that you are. >> reporter: the 20th anniversary of the million man march will also honor tens of thousands of black men who marched in 1995 to promote self-help and self-respect. this weekend's march is calling for justice and equality. >> hopefully, causing people to rise up and say, okay, this is enough. >> now, one of the officers

involved in sandra bland's arrest is under fire for her role in tasering a young black city council member. according to prairie view, texas police, officers approached four men, questioning them about recent disturbances in the area. while the officers were questioning the men, the council man interrupted their investigation. that's when one of the officers used a taser to subdue him. >> started pushing him back and putting his hands on him and not explaining why he was being arrested. that's when i pulled out my camera. people tend to use excessive force. >> the female officer involved in the bland arrest was the one who arrested the councilman last night. prairie view police are reviewing this incident. today the maryland transit administration is conducting on emergency drill. the drill will include a simulated terrorist attack on local bus and metro subway. this begins at 9:00 tonight. >> what appear as a car accident now being ruled a homicide in district heights. detectives found 32-year-old

marquita wims shot inside her car. the car slammed into an apartment complex onç rochelle avenue in district heights, last saturday night. when police arrived they discovered she had been shot, likely before the crash. the medical examiner says it is a homicide. the trial of eye suspected serial killer in alexandria resumes tuesday. on day two of testimony, jurors learned dna samples and fingerprints taken from the ruth ann ladado murder scene did not match charles severance. prosecutors introduced security camera video that showed a vehicle that looked like a ford escort wagon driving near the home moments after her murder. prince george's county police made a huge drug bust but did not arrest anyone. police say there's more than 1,800 packets of synthetic drugs from three convenience stores. those stores were back open on

friday. no one was arrested. they still have to confirm that the drugs contain illegal ingredients. the county does not have any laws that allow them to go after store owners. >> we're not going to arrest a clerk in a store. just doing a job. we get that. legislation needs to enable us to go after the store owners who are bringing this in. >> one of the store owners says he didn't know the products were illegal and has no plans to sell them again. >> president obama is trying to find a way to ease tensions in oregon after he was greeted by protesters. what the president did and why thousands made it clear he wasn't welcome. then the rush is on to find a new house speaker. the one factor that might change that man r
