developing tonight, a tragic update for the weeks long search for a missing elderly man. prince george's county believe they have found the body. a woman thought she was getting into her uber ride. but she made a terrible mistake. we're still working to get you more information on the southwest computer glitch that delayed hundreds of flights during this holiday weekend. >> developing right now, a body has been found in watkins regional park in upper marlboro, the same park where 80-year-old ruben fits went missing a week ago. residents say he was taken for a picnic. they confirmed the body is believed to be mr. fitz. the body was found in a soybean field. that area had been searched

before but the body was about 180 yards from the search area. police say the clothing on the body matched what he was wearing when he disappeared. we will continue to follow this story and bring you any updates as we get them. it was a life taken too soon. 22-year-old garrett was smart, caring and a great father. he was found shot at a montgomery park and tonight, friends and family are getting together to remember his life and asking people to come forward to help find his killer. darcy joins us live. >> reporter: erica, this young man's body was found near this playground behind me at this neighborhood park in montgomery county. tonighty this family's grief is immeasurable. >> this has been a very difficult few days. >> reporter: alicia arnold is a mother preparing to do the unthinkable. bury her own 22-year-old son.

>> this afternoon, we went to -- his dad and i went to the funeral home to choose caskets. that is the most pain i've ever experienced. >> her son, garrett, was shot to death in edgewood neighborhood park in silver spring in the middle of the afternoon thursday. >> i am beyond comprehension with how someone could possibly do this to my son. >> he excelled in academics at paint branch high school on a full ride to moore house college, described a free spirit, he dropped out to find out what life had to offer. >> garrett had a very infectious smile. he had eyes glistening and gleaming. he had a beautiful young daughter. >> dozens of relatives and

friends turned out at a nearby park to reflect on his life, hold a moment of silence and release balloons in his memory. >> i have lots of support to help me cope, but i don't think i will ever truly get over this. >> reporter: this is a loss that this family obviously will never get over. his mom tells me one thing would help. that is to get justice for her son. no arrests have been made in this case. she is asking any that has any information that could help police to make sure you give them a call. back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you very much. new tonight, a hiking trip along the appalachian trail in maryland turns deadly this morning. a man was taking pictures when he lost his balance and fell. he plunged 45 feet to his death. this happened inside south mountain state park north of boons borrow, maryland. the man was from the united

kingdom. a reminder to make sure you check the make and model of the uber car you're entering. there was a sex assault early saturday morning on macomb street northwest. a woman said she thought she was entering an uber car. it was actually somebody else's car. the man in that vehicle pulled out a knife and sexually assa t assaulted her. she escaped after the assault. the suspect is still on the loose. a southwest airlines computer glitch causing major delays at reagan national and airports across our region and throughout the country. the snaffou is so bad some passengers are being checked in manly. we just checked the airlines' website and telling passengers to print their boarding passes and arrive two hours before the flight. a teenager on a hunting trip in queen anne's county shot and killed the man leading the hunt. that's what maryland natural resources police believe happened.

g guide was flushing a bird from the brush when he was shot saturday afternoon. police say the 14-year-old boy was a member of the hunting party that hired the guy. somebody defaced this controversial statute in frederick, maryland, that honors a supreme court justice who wrote the dred scott decision that affirmed slavery. somebody splashed red paint on it this morning. people who say the statute is offensive want to remove it and people say that move would erase part of frederick's history. tomorrow morning going to be another chilly start, but not as cold as this morning. the coolest since april. heading out the door, probably want to grab a jacket or wear long-slee long-sleeves. chilly 52 degrees, plenty of sunshine, we will warm up quickly.

9:00 a.m. tempts in the mid 50s and by lunchtime in the mid 60s. the high 71. tomorrow, we will be a little warmer and when you will need the umbrella. >> we are learning new information about the man who died in a motorcycle crash in bethesda. montgomery county police said a car hit 52-year-old gary stewart while riding on old georgetown road. it was making a left-hand turn at the time of that collision. a memphis police officer will never get to meet his unborn child. the off-duty officer was shot multiple times in a memphis suburb sunday afternoon. police officials say the details of what happened are quote sketchy at this time. they have a man in custody. that suspect's family says the two argued before the shooting. the officer leaves behind a fiance four months pregnant. he's the fourth memphis officer

killed over the last four years. the u.s. supreme court could decide whether to take con gun control this week. it could decide whether to take on a ban of assault weapons. if it decides it's not legal, others could be challenged. if it decides not to hear the case it could pave the way for more states to impose similar bans. here's a new look at the latest round of flooding in south carolina. these pictures taken by maryland civil air patrol. they spent five days assessing the flood damage. the group of volunteers made 138 flights over the region and h p helped look for people who needed help and provided area pictures to help fema get a handle on the damage. among the group are pilots from leesburg. public schools in california won't be allowed to use the name redskins anymore. california jerry brown signed the bill into law today starting
