developing a family's week's long search could be over. right now waiting to get confirmation after police found a body in a prince george's county park. maryland national capital park police say the body found in a soybean field at watkins regional park fits the description of 80-year-old luben fipps. crews found the body about 80 yards away from where a search has been conducted. the fipps family canceled today's search pending today's confirmation. he went missing september 15th during a picnic there with the assisted living center where he stayed. his daughter told new 4's darcy spencer that fipps suffers from dementia and she was concerned her father had not been properly supervised. that's the latest. we are working to find out how long iran's government will

sentence "washington post" reporter jason rezaian to jail. iran accuses him of collecting confidential information and handing it over to hostile governments. the court says he can appeal the conviction within 20 days. i'm megan fitzgerald at reagan national airport where just yesterday southwest says it was a technical glitch which caused hundreds of flights to be delayed across the country and long lines at airports around the country as well. if you look behind me, you can see that's not the case today. line seems to be moving along regularly here. people are able to access these kiosks here to get their tickets. southwest officials say this is something they've been working on throughout the night. many travelers would agree there are times when flying can be a bit stressful. >> i do. i worry.

and i like to get here early. >> on sunday, that was the case for thousands of southwest customers, some 450 flights were delayed and long lines were seen here at l.a.x. and other major airports around the country. southwest said a technical glitch in their system affected the website, mobile app and phone centers forcing employees to check customers in manually. but on monday morning -- it was a different story. lines moved quickly and passengers didn't seem to have many issues. >> we haven't had any problems this morning. they just told us to be here a couple hours early. >> southwest encouraged travelers to arrive two hours early just to be safe. things were not entirely perfect. >> the mobile website said that we would still have to get a printed pass today. >> i went on their website, but it was down. i couldn't find out if the flight was delayed. >> so far delays seem to be at a minimum and all in all,

southwest customers at reagan say their monday travel has gotten off to a good start. >> so far so good. >> now, southwest officials say they're focused today on getting all the bags that were delayed back to customers and those individuals who were not able to fly out yesterday, they're working on getting them an open see the on a flight so they can get back to their destination. barbara? >> thank you. the smoky haze is finally clearing out in prince george's county in this neighborhood. chopper 4 flew over the burning home. firefighters had some thick smoke to deal with when they arrived. no word on if anyone was hurt. this story still developing in south carolina. recovery efforts going on after historic flooding throughout the state. the water system there is still under repair. workers are still trying to fix the canal used to bring in drinking water. hundreds of thousands still have to boil water heading into the

second week after the devastation. state officials are working to get roads back to normal. a good chunk of interstate 95 remains closed. some folks traveling through south carolina are forced to take two-hour detours. some local members of the maryland civil air patrol are back at home after serving five days in south carolina. a few of the pilots are from leesburg. there's some photos from that mission. the group of volunteers made 138 flights over the flooded region. they helped look for people who needed help. the group also sent photos to fema to help fema get a handle on the damage and what needs to be done now. >> i'm storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. sun is shining. holiday sunshine for everybody who is lucky now have your columbus day off. don't get used to the dry weather. cloudy skies and a risk for showers as soon as tomorrow. talk about that coming up. and also a little bit later in the show, talking about how much

will take up gun control. the court will decide whether to hear a challenge to a chicago law banning certain assault weapons. if the court hears the case and decides the law is not legal, bans in other states could be challenged. if the court doesn't hear the case, it could lead to more states imposing similar gun bans. we are working to get an update on the condition of a man who was shot outside of an nfl game in texas. police say the shooting happened outside the cowboys/patriots game last night. it apparently started with a fight. according to the ft. worth star telegram, one man shot another in the head. we last heard the victim was in critical condition. police arrested the other man. they are trying to determine how the fight started and why. in the mlb playoffs, the dodgers and the mets play tonight. right now it's not clear whether dodgers second baseman chase utley will get to play. the league suspended utley for two games for this slide.

your seven-day forecast comes up the next time i see you. new numbers on the flu vaccine. the cdc says 92 million doses of the flu shot have been distributed so far. this year is a quad vaccine which means it protects against four different strains of the flew. doctors say there is a big supply of that vaccine now. if you get the shot, you should know it takes two weeks before it's effective against an infection. today we will find out if an after-school program is working to help address the achievement gap in montgomery county public schools. there's a huge performance gap that separates white and asian students from black and latino students. excel beyond the bell was started at seven middle schools in response to that program. the county council's education committee is releasing new data on the program. it's a special day in prince george's county schools. derrick ward shows us how the district is looking to inspire

trail inside smith mountain state park. the 43-year-old was taking pictures, jumping from rock to rock when he lost his balance and fell close to 50 feet. people nearby tried to help him but he died on the scene. a scary mistake police can't to stop from happening again. d.c. officers are trying to find a sexual assault suspect. a woman thought she was getting into an uber vehicle saturday morning near wisconsin avenue. instead officers say the driver took out a knife and assaulted her. there's a reward if you can help officers arrest that driver. police are trying to figure out who defaced a controversial statue in frederick. someone splashed red paint on the statue on sunday morning. people who say the statue is offensive want it remove, other believes the move would erase

12:30. turkey is blaming different extremist groups including isis and kurdish separatists for two deadly explosions over the weekend. the blast in the capital city killed at least 95 people and left hundreds more wounded. turkey declared three days of mourning. the kurds accused turkey's government of failing to protect them. no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. outrage is growing now in southeast texas at what some are calling a case of police brutality. police used a stun gun on a council member outside his home. the video is circulating, and we want to warn you some may find it disturbing. police say their actions were justified. >> i'm not trying to be combative. >> reporter: this morning this 26-year-old councilman says he wants answers.

miller said there was no justification for police firing a taser at him while he was on his knees. >> okay. he's going to have to tase you. you're not doing like you're supposed to. >> reporter: the dramatic videos, one from miller's friends taken from the officer's body camera don't show everything that led to the tasing but they were on patrol when they stopped at his house. >> approached four men for questioning who were in an area that has often been found to be involved with drug activity or other suspicious activity. >> reporter: miller says they were his friends and weren't doing anything wrong. >> i knew the officer. she knew me. i figured i'd let her know these are my guests. you know, kind of -- i guess lessen the tension. >> reporter: the tension escalated as officers repeatedly asked miller to move back. >> officer, comon. >> go over here before you put you go to jail for interfering, man. >> you're doing way too much. >> go back over there. >> reporter: police say when they tried to arrest miller, he physically resisted. >> i feel like it was kind of

following a developing story in prince georges county this afternoon we expect to hear from the family of an 80-year-old man who disappeared in a park last month. the family will be holding a press conference later today. officers found a body in watkins regional park and it is believed to be that of phipps. his daughter tells us that phipps suffered from dementia. a new poll out this morning about the 2016 race for president. the lawson center for public policy polled virginia supporters, their support for the current front r-runners is dwindling.
