closed tonight. what we're trying to figure out now is how many will stay closed tomorrow morning. >> it has been a mess, folks, to say the least. jackie bensen live. there are serious concerns about how much damage that water did today. >> reporter: that's right, jim. the water has been shut off. that's good news. take a look behind me, you see cars going through the intersection through the water. the concern is possible structural damage to the northbound lanes on the opposite side of the streets. it could be tough tomorrow morning. crews spent the evening turning off the flow of water from the broken 26 water main under busy rockville pipe just under. at one of the busiest intersections in montgomery county and affected heavy

traffic out of nih and walter reed hospital. and indicates this might not be over by morning rush hour. >> right now, the focus is to repair the water main and get people back in service. then we will have to work with state highway administration to understand what the total impact has been to rockville pike. tomorrow rush hour we need people to plan for an alternate route. >> reporter: that is wse's very polite way of saying you will likely not be able to get through this intersection tomorrow. remember, any time one intersection around this area one main road there are problems, the others feel the impact. word from metro tonight, the medical station has been unaffected by this but the j-2 and j-3 buses have been re-ro e re-routed. if this continues into morning

face in 2009 with a gun sold by badger guns of milwaukee. they sued the owners for negligence, claiming there should have been red flags in the purchased documents filed by the 18-year-old who shot them. police say hundreds of guns used in crimes have been traced back to that same store. new tonight, we've learned one of the men shot near some prince george's county schools has died. that shooting happened this afternoon at a townhouse complex on 57th avenue in blade ensburg. the crime scene spread out several blocks close to blast e -- bladensburg high school. they are looking for adults not believed to be students. warning to have smoke alarms after this intense house fire. they rescued a married couple in reston this morning. they were airlifted to the

hospital and both in serious but stable condition. we're told they did have working smoke detectors on both levels of the townhouse but firefighters return to send a message to neighbors. >> one, have a working smoke alarm on every floor, and second, when you go to bed at night, shut the bedroom door. >> the couple's four pets died in that fire this morning and investigators still don't know what caused it. new tonight, a gaithersburg man faces life in prison after being convicted of murder of a robbery of a mansion. tayvon miles was part of a group that raided the home looking for drugs and money. in the chaos, miles was shot several times and prosecutors say he killed the man who shot him. he will be sentenced in january. caution. aggressive all. this sign is not the kind of thing you expect to see on your evening jog. it's no joke. tonight, shomari stone talked to one of the people who's been

attacked on the capitol crescent trail in bet thes da. >> i got startled when i got hit. >> reporter: he was attacked on the crescent trail not by a robber, an all who swooped on his head. >> i felt something hit me from behind like a bottle, felt like a bottle or big stick and fell to the ground. >> reporter: his jog came to a halt near river road and dorsett avenue and they put up signs warning people an aggressive all lives here. >> i was rubbing my head, i'm bleeding a little bit. >> reporter: then he glanced up to the trees. >> i saw something that looked like a big bird. >> reporter: another jogger said an all attacked him. -- an allowl attacked him. >> reporter: if you have a ponytail, put it in a hat and if you see an owl, reflect it.

back at the live desk, we're following a story in florida where a small plane crashed into a mobile home park in palm beach county. this is from a surveillance camera nearby that shows the plane coming in from the right and there is the plume of smoke when it impacted. the plane went down and set at least two mobile homes on fire. one was engulfed and another partially on fire. people outside could see that huge plume of smoke rising. for several hours they weren't sure how many victims they were dealing with. some of our investigators have not confirmed whether any died in the crash. we do know the red cross has been called in to help two families that lost their homes.

>> thank you. police tell us they are revi reviewing video of an arrest that sparked a social media outcry. the video shown over and over again on twitter show officers forcibly detaining a man out side 6th street and southeast. many are sharing the video with the #justiceforjason. today, demonstrators blocked traffic on capitol to protest the arrest. candidat d.c. says officers were answering a call for three suspicious people at an atm. one ran when they showed up and another was arrested. in the end, no one was charged. a criminal investigation is under way over allegations an over spit on man he arrested. an onlooker recorded video of the incident last night. witnesses say police ordered several people off the steps of a building and one man arguing

with an officer was subdued with tears and handcuffs. that's when witnesses say the officer spit on the guy. >> you can look at that video last night and come away with serious concerns. this isn't being reviewed, this isn't being looked at, this isn't being glanced at, this is a full-blown internal investigation. >> investigators are canvassing that neighborhood looking for people who may have seen what happened there. security scares on capitol hill, a review by the news4 i-team reveals they're on the rise. we found thousands of suspicious packa packages, powders and people in just the past three years. tonight, scott mcfarland and the i-team cameras give us our fierfirst look at a specialized unit handling those calls. >> he served two decades as an accust accustom. mike doyle says it's common to walk past police cars and tape.

one night this spring he said something was different. >> i've been here 21 years. nothing like this has ever happened. >> reporter: this police call seemed urgent. >> they gave her instructions to shut the doors and basically go into a lockdown. his staff assistant, kaitlyn, had opened envelope. >> she saw this white powdery substance. >> reporter: and police officers ran into the building and tests showed the powder was harmless but the i-team found a number of bomb squad calls on capitol grounds is fast increasing sh showing 2,500 bomb squad responses just since 2012. some of them you've heard about. it was the bomb squad that inspected the gyrocolder a florida man landed in april and the bomb squad removed and destroyed what ended up being a

fall weather, highs in 60s and low is in the frur40s. temperatures still in the 60s, 68 degrees. this should be the high temperature during the day tomorrow. look at that wind direction out of the north at te 10:00 and th cold front bringing the air from the north. 68 in washington. 61 in cumberland. coolest 58 in hagerstown and 58 in culpeper. we will be a little cooler tomorrow night than the last two nights but not all that cold. radar showing a couple showers and a rumble towards the eastern shore earlier and out to sea. we still have cloud cover in. those clouds will move across our region and will help keep temperatures on the warmer side of things. it's the air coming from canada. look at the jet stream, you can see it diving all the way down towards our region. that's the cooler air and the next system that comes through is really going to come through and that coming on friday.

tomorrow will be cooler than today. high temperatures close to 80 and tomorrow we struggle to get to the upper 60s and possibly 70 if we're lucky. sunshine tomorrow, a nice afternoon. a little bit on the breezy side if you're in and out the city. you will definitely need the jacket there. impact forecast tomorrow, still on the low side, cool, breezy, we've been through it before. take the jacket with you. tomorrow afternoon you may not need the jacket at all and what you will see the next few days. thursdays and fridays looking very nice. cool starts and warm afternoons, at least mild afternoons and afternoon temperatures are 69 degrees. high upper 50s to 60s on saturday and sunday, high temperature only in the mid-50s here coming with sunshine that will also be rather breezy, 40 degrees for overnight low. how about 32 in martinsburg, 36

about this but the chicago cubs won a playoff series. they bate beat up the cardinals the first time in post history they won a series in wrigley field. this is the oldest active professional team in america, what a night it was in chicago. cubs one win away from their first nls since 2003. and rizzo. how about this? that's a grown man hit right there. second straight game with a homer for him. he gave the cubs a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning. later on bottom of the seventh, cubs still clinging to a one run lead, this a monster shot by call sharber, they hit 12 home runs and lead it 6-4. top of the ninth, fans hoping to close out this series, hector r rondon, gets swinging to end this game. cubs win it 6-4, they take this
