suspicious. police's facebook page says juan cared deeply for his family, friends and fellow department members. police in d.c. are asking for your help to find a man linked to a sexual assault and burgl y burglary. police say the attack -- he attacked a woman who was home sometime between 2:00 and 3:00. the department is offering a $1,000 reward if you can help them make an arrest. 5:05 right now. check your smoke alarms. that is the message from the fairfax county fire chief this morning after an intense house fire. crews rescued a married couple from the second floor of their burning town home on purple sage court in reston. the couple was air lifted to the hospital. we're learning they both are in serious condition but are expect expected be okay. >> have a working smoke alarm on every floor and e second, when you go to bed, shut the bedroom

door. >> the couple's four pets died in the fire. no word on what caused it. we're learning new details this morning about a deadly hit and run in the disstrijt. victim is 62-year-old leroy barnes. barnes was crossing the road when somebody hit him yesterday morning. the first car pushed barnes into the path of another car. the second driver stayed on the scene until help arrived but it was too late. police say they're looking for a dark colored suv in connection with this crash. the brother of a jailed washington post reporter says his imprisonment is cruel and inhumane. jason rosian has been in jail in iran for over a year on charges including espionage. he's a "washington post" reporter. he was convicted and could face 20 years in prison. it's not clear what he was convicted of and the family says they haven't received any information. the state department is calling for iran to release rosian right

man shot here at tangier place. he died on scene here of his gunshot wounds. it's very active even three hours later. you can see there are several crime solvers vehicles here. they even taped off the area here on tangier place. as they continue this investigation we want to show you some video. our team was here earlier moments after this shooting happened. police are being very cautious and careful and thorough in this investigation. out here taking pictures, marking the spot, trying to collect as much information as they possibly can to try and determine who the shooter was. back out here on the scene what we do know from police, investigators have told us that they don't have a suspect description at this moment but they don't believe that this was a random shooting. they're asking anyone in the community who may have seen something, heard something, has any information about this shooting to contact the prince georges police department. they tell you you can remain

parents. gaithersburg man may face life in prison after being convicted of murder in olney. tavon myers was part of a group that raided that home looking for drugs and money. it happened in march of last year. miles was shot several times during the robbery. prosecutors say he killed the man who shot him, mark saint aubin. i will be sentenced in january. the world bank is offering more than $1 million in grant money in honor of hannah graham. the washington post says the grants will be used to combat global sexual view owe ledges. the 18-year-old university of virginia student was killed last year. jesse lee matthew is charged with her murder. maureen mcdonnell wants to delay her court hearing while her husband appeals her conviction. they were convicted on corruption charges last year. this week the former virginia governor formally asked the supreme court to review his

case. both are free while appealing their convictions. >> i was startled when i got hit. >> dell wilbur was attacked on the capitol crescent trail in bethesda, not by a robber or a dog, it was an owl apparently that swooped down and hit him in the head. wilbur was jogging on the trail earlier this week when he said he felt like somebody hit him with a bottle. that attack happened near river road and dorsett avenue. wilbur said after the first attack the owl swooped down and attacked somebody else too. the bird is probably young and mistaking reflections and ponytail for food. >> i looked down the trail and a big bird that i assume was an owl, looked kind of white, was swooping down on a woman who was jogging that direction with a ponytail. and then it veered off into the trees. >> park police have put up some signs warning people about an aggressive owl in that area. they also say if you have a ponytail, hide it under a hat. it didn't take long for somebody to come up with a twitter account for this.

into the day on friday, here comes the next weather front with a risk of a quick passing shower or two. late friday morning and mid friday afternoon. seven day forecast, 71 today, 67 tomorrow. there's that little chance for rain on thursday but that's our only real chance for rain out of the next seven days. the real story though, late this weekend into early next week may have a killing frost. we'll detail today hour by hour in about ten minutes. angie goff here with that update on that plane crash in florida. we just talked to our nbc affiliate in palm beach. take a look at some of the video from the scene here. this is posted on instagram. the palm beach fire department now saying that multiple people died after a small plane crashed into that trailer park. in this new video you can see the flames that followed after the few homes were hit. this is surveillance video where you see the plane literally drop out of the sky. the faa is expected on the scene this morning to try to figure out what caused the plane to go down. we are going to bring you more

updates as we get them. eun? >> thank you, angie. it's now 5:25. we now know more about two firefighters who died in kansas city. they were fighting a fire in an apartment building when it collapsed. take a look. these are their pictures. one of the firefighters worked for the fire department for 13 years. married and had four young daughters. the other was also married. he served for 17 years. a case now that has been watched closely by both sides of the gun control issue, a gun store in wisconsin being ordered to pay millions of dollars after selling a gun used to shoot two police officers. those officers filed a lawsuit against badger guns because the gun used to shoot them was sold to a so-called straw buyer. the shooter was too young to buy the gun himself so he paid a friend to buy it. the officers were both shot in the face in the summer of 2009. the defense argued there was no way the owner would have known it was a straw purchase. >> the act of straw purchasing

>> let's start by trying to get into this conversation for ten minutes. let's start with why russia is in syria right now. >> now you heard him talking about not being able to get into the conversation. this happened several times where he tried to jump in. sometimes the moderator would not let him. they got into a back and forth at one point. the moderator said, well, you agreed to these rules. he really seemed frustrated by the time thing as he tried to jump in. frankly, there were large periods of time where he wasn't in the conversation. he said looks like i can only jump in if someone happens to mention my name. >> someone who did get a lot of air time, vermont senator bernie sanders. let's listen in to this statement. fact or fiction, tracie. >> it is wrong today in a rigged economy that 57% all new income is going to the top 1%. >> reporter: so those numbers are outdated. when you take a look at everything from the end -- from the beginning of the recovery all the way through last year the top 1% earned about 58% of

and killed 21-year-old earnest massenberg bay jr. it happened on eaton road southeast. in prince georges county police are looking for who shot two men near a school. one of the men died. it happened in bladensburg yesterday afternoon. it spread out several blocks and came close to the high school around the time students were dismissed. both victims were adults. 12 d.c. families forced out of their apartments have a place to stay for now. inside the building the conditions are unfit for anybody to live. the city has moved those families to temporary housing inside a hotel. >> sometimes we can't even take baths for like two to three weeks, stuff like that. >> there were over 287 code violations dcra has issued to this landlord starting in about april. >> one of the women forced to move had to postpone her husband's funeral so she could get out. the building's owner, you saw him there, he locked himself in

a utility closet as we asked him questions. after the family's stay is up in that hotel about two weeks they have to find their own housing. one baltimore city police officer is not on the job this morning. we are learning that there is a criminal investigation underway over allegations the officer spit on a man he arrested. an onlooker had video. they ordered several people off the steps of a building. one man argued with an officer and was tased and handcuffed. that's when witnesses say the officer spit on the man. >> any reasonable person can look that the video last night and come away with some serious concerns. this isn't being reviewed, this isn't being looked at, this isn't being glanced at, this is a full blown internal investigation. >> police officers in baltimore will start wearing body cameras later this month. police in frederick, maryland, need help identifying

two people suspected of vandalizing a bust of a supreme court justice. they released these photos taken from surveillance video. the video shows the men hairying towards the bust near tawny hall. it was found covered in a red paint like substance. maryland governor larry hogan has finished his final round of chemotherapy. he took to facebook to thank the university of maryland medication for their dedication and amazing work. he said over the last four months i've undergone 30 days of 24 hour chemo, three surgeries, four spinal taps and countless scans. hogan was diagnosed with b cell nonhodgkin's lymphoma in june. live look outside temperatures are in the 50s. the kids will definitely want a jacket at the bus stop. what about recess though? new developments in the case of a woman accused of driving

>> now that was the man who called 911 as he watched the video. the woman in the video, whitney beal, was stopped by police shortly after that call. beal's attorney says his client is not how she seems. >> she's a young professional. we're going to be taking every step to make sure that her rights are carefully respected. >> beal's attorney says she will plead not guilty to dui charges. the next time you head to the dmv in virginia ask yourself if you really need to be there. a new report says that nearly 20% of people in the commonwealth go to the dmv unnecessarily. who wants to go to the dmv? that means wait times for everyone are longer. in arlington the average wait time just over 40 minutes. that's compared to a little more than 20 minutes statewide. the report found that most customers were showing up for vehicle registration renewals which can be done online, over the phone or by mail in most cases better than actually going to the dmv. it's an issue talked about by presidential candidates on both

losing a patent lawsuit. they used something from the madison county university. dish asked the sec to deny the time warner/charter communications merger. they said the merger would ultimately result in two nationwide broadband providers, the other being our parent company comcast. d dot says its new parking plan could dramatically cut down on congestion in d.c. the agency will start to use these little plastic, look at these -- you may have seen them in the downtown area. d dot said 1/4 or more of all congestion downtown involved people searching for parking spaces. the signs will create a map of available spaces which you could then look up on your phone.
