evening and we've had light wind today and that wind continues to settle on down and you probably noticed some of those fuzzy clouds and there was a possibility of a sprinkle earlier and we just lost our chance of seeing our sprinkle squeeze out of any of those clouds and the wind will continue to diminish and our temperatures drop down to the low 60s and by 8:00, keep that in mind if you'll be going out cycling this evening and i still think perfect for football and some of the practice going on this evening and for thursday and friday, high school football, absolutely perfect, but it is going to turn chilly on friday. keep that in mind, and you might want to grab extra cover out there and a sweatshirt for the game and doug has more on what to expect this weekend in just a few minutes. his bloody arrest led to renewed scrutiny at virginia's abc officers. a uva student is speaking publicly about his run-in with the officers and he's talking about how it changed his life.

wendy rieger is in the newsroom. marquise johnson says the scars on his head and his face may remain for the rest of his life and part of an op o-ed that was published in vanity fair. pictures of his bloody face went viral. johnson who grew up in chicago said his sense that education and success would be his sanctuary was shaken at that moment, but he ends the letter focusing on trying to move past the ordeal by saying, quote, every morning i look in the mirror and am forced to relive the trauma that was the morning of march 18, 2015. i know that if my head hit the pavement differently that night i could be dead. now a fourth year at the university of virginia i am determined to be the first in my family to graduate successfully from a four-year university, and i believe that this generation of americans can surpass my efforts and take proactive steps in their communities to deter an

they say are unbearable and are making their children sick. coming up at 5:00, you'll hear from the mothers who say they'd rather be back at d.c. general and you'll hear what the city plans to do. >>. >> one of the most fascinating things i found is there were topics that crossed over the two republican debates and there were also things that we hadn't heard candidates really get into in detail. troy johnson here with our talk around town. >> one came from a young african-american man who asked do black lives matter or do all lives matter? >> this is a huge question. the folks were pleased that i spoke with about the debate and their kitchen table issues were front and center last night and that gets to the black lives matter movement. people were saying this is a defining moment for black lives matter. during this race to the white house because now all of the
4:35 pm
protests and all of the dialogue, all of the conversations on social media in the wake of the deaths of michael brown, eric garner, sandra bland. now it's paying off because candidates are paying attention and they're forcing their hand and making them address some of these things and one person said they're supporting hillary clinton that i talked to, but they were impressed by the way bernie sanders passionately talked about this. he mentioned sandra bland. he was firm when he said black lives matter and also talked about combatting institutional racism. these are all things that were really resonating with folks they talked to, the things that they want to hear addressed and that means it's going to have to be talked about when you get to the republicans next year. >> speaking of bernie sanders, you've got a man up there saying i'm a socialist and i'm proud of it. income inequality is a topic that will come up and be debated. what were your listeners saying about that? >> this is something they deal with every day. they're people that are feeling
4:36 pm
like -- we are the disappearing middle class. we're those folks that people were discussing last night. the unemployment rate for blacks is still above 9%, wages are still stagnant for decades and people are still wondering how are they going to get ahead? but the other underlying theme that i heard from folks is they were concerned about their kids, as well. the unemployment rate for young people, 24% and if kids are supposed to be working and then trying to go to school with rising costs of college and all of those things seemed to tie in and it was something that they want to see these candidates address well. >> let me ask you this, because this is something that's been coming up from my facebook page from people posting. were your listeners looking for someone who looked and sounded presidential or were they just looking to hear things that they liked? >> i get the impression from the folks that i talk to that right now it's kind of early. they want to see people speaking to real issues.
4:37 pm
again, a lot of people in the post-analysis si that what you saw in comparison to some of the republican debates was a much more substantive conversation about some real issues that cover all types of folks. they need -- they want to see more than that. they like the fact that you have that kind of dialogue going on and hopefully the next phase will be some answers to some of these questions that are being raised. >> and to be fair, they're operating with half the people on stage that the republicans did. republicans, they have a much tougher time to do that with so many people. >> you didn't see the sniping and the barbs and stuff like that. >> not as many people had to stand out as well, though. >> true. >> it all plays into the numbers. >> troy johnson, thank you very much. pat? >> salad scare. a major recall today from dole. tens of thousands of bags of spinach recalled. >> and u.s. airways is about to all, but slip into airline history. we'll tell you
