traffic director, what's the impact now? >> reporter: wendy, it's very confusing fb a lot of drivers. i'm standing on 295 right when it comes into the beltway. a lot of folks coming down here from joint base -- from jbap. they don't know where to go. there is a pretty simple detour as you continue south on 295 and you continue on national harbor and make a quick u-turn at the sunoco station and get right on the through lanes of 495 and folks don't know what to do so they're confused and they keep asking me and the police officers here what to do, and it looks like they're just getting the word right now to open some of the lanes on this ramp as we're just getting the word now to try to pick up some of the cones here. >> but even if they open those ramps, jim, how much time is it going to start to clear things out? that can be nasty even on a good day. >> i'm looking up 295 now and

it's backed up as far as i can see and from what i can tell there are lengthy delays out on the beltway, stretching all of the way up way past andrews, past st. barnabus road and through rush hour and want only do we have the regular d.c. traffic and the northeast corridor runs right through this area and people trying to get away from the weekend they travel right through our area every friday afternoon at this time. >> all right. jim, wtop traffic director. thanks, jim. it is ugly out there, folks. they have sounded the all-clear, but it could be another 20 minutes before they open the lanes on southbound by the wilson bridge. good luck out there. back to you. >> thanks, wendy. now to the deadly triangle. the husband and wife were having an affair with the same woman. now the wife is accused of having both of them killed and police say she got her teenage

4:04 pm
