what's going on. looks nice and clear and vacuum looks light. don't have to worry about that any more. 270 southbound, we had a crash. they're going 23 miles an hour as you're approaching bucky's town pike there. so folks probably normal vacuum and then they're looking to the left at this accident. route 1 at groveton street still have the road closed because of wires down. >> melissa, thank you. 6:01. we're staying on on the of breaking news. west virginia in the northeast is shut down for a police investigation. let's get to "news4" with more on how the sunrise might affect this investigation. derrick. >> reporter: well, we expect as more of the morning commuting traffic starts to come through this area, it will become an issue for commuters. it's certainly now an issue for investigators here on west virginia avenue in the northeast. we're in the fifth district.

take a look at the scene here. the scene is focused around that car there with the driver's door open. this happened sometime around 3:00 a.m. this morning. understand it is being called a shooting. we don't know the condition of the victim or victims, and there's no information about a lookout. this is on the edge of the i've city neighborhood, sort of the border between ivy city and the trinidad neighborhoods of the northeast. it's an area of a mix of light industry and government buildings and some residences and apartments and houses a block or two over. again, not a lot of information about the victim. or victims. all weknow at this point is it is being called a shooting. you're being diverted at mount olivet road on one side and new york avenue on the other. if this is part of your morning commute, you need to make other plans because this will more than likely be a crime scene until at least sunlight when the homicide detectives or violent

paul guida was found unresponsive late friday. jail staff worked on him until rescue crews took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. he was accuse of violating a protective order for the third time. developing now, we're seeing new video of the struggle between an escaped prisoner and prince george's police officer. giovanti young assaulted two police officers during a traffic stop on sadr. when he complained of an injury, they took him to the hospital. on the way to central booking, young managed to talk off the handcuffs and roll out of the car. the dash cam was able to capture it. a move some say will add stability to the baltimore police department in the year of freddie gray's death. we expect the city council to make ken davis the commissioner. he began as interim commissioner

in july. mayor stephanie rawlings blake fired the preers commissioner. they probably will not have a chance to speak to him before tonight's commitment. a boxer suffered a brain injury over the weekend in fairfax. prichard colon suffered a brain injury. he got knocked down in a round. he's being treated in a fairfax hospital. transportation secretary anthony fox expected to announce that owners and operators will have to register their unmanned aircraft with the didn't of transportation. the new rules stem from concerns over recent close calls between drones and commercial airliners. this week metro called narrow its list down to two candidates.

they're all transportation professionals. they're expected to select and announce a new g.m. they've been without a permanent general manager for a year. redskins' quarterback kurk cousins will stay on even though he threw two passes that ended up being touchdowns for the new york jets. carol maloney says this was the wasn't one. coach jay gruden says he does not plan on changing the lineup. the redskins plan on playing the buccaneers at home this coming sunday. their daughter was one of the targets of that shooting. also ahead, a little too

daughter plotted to have somebody killed, anthony and rigs. both ann anastasi and her daughter also face charges. your time is 6:18. d.c. police are looking for a person who shot a man inside a car along atlantic avenue in the southeast. take a look. the police found the car riddled with bullets. police believe the victim drove there after he was shot he was breathing when he arrivdt at the hospital. 75-year-old james vernon from morton, illinois, fought off the attacker who tried to hurt 16 kids. this is at a local library. vernon was teaching them how to play chess. police feed the suspect as 19-year-old brown. he said brown was clear about his plans to hurt people. >> stating, yelling that he was going to kill somebody, but my

escalating situation involving two people who didn't know each other. we know the police took the man in custody and all o'passengers including woman got o another plane. they were about five hours late for san fran. aaron? >> wow, angie goff. sthanch you. developing this morning. the central texas wildfire gobbling up land said to be under control this morning. firefighters say it's 60% contained. 162 firefighters were fighting that blaze on the ground and in the air on sunday. no injuries so far. 4,600 acres are badly damaged. 50 homes and 70 businesses have been lost to the wildfires. crews in southern california working around the clock to clear muddy roads. this weekend's rain was desperately needed but it created a whole list of new problems. the rain caused flash flooding in several areas that washed debris and mud on the roads making some of them completely impassabl

there's a fight brewing over medical marijuana. today the council will look at two pillsern one involved medical marijuana operations while the other bans it. the vice chairman says it's unlikely it will pass but could limit it. an exciting ceremony today. the smithsonian will hold an installation ceremony to welcome the organization's 13th secretary. dr. david skorton will join the institute. chief justice john roberts will be among the 500 people at the ceremony. you can check the nbc 4 as later today. standup eddie murphy received an award. it's the nation's top award for comedians. investigation. let's check in with "news4's" derrick ward live on the scene with how this morning will affect the investigation. derrick? >> reporter: well, it definitely is starting to affect the morning commute here. traffic is being turned away on mt. olivet road on one end and the avenue on the other. this happened around 3:00 a.m. we're told it's a shooting in the 1900 block of west virginia. we don't know the details about the victim or victims. no details have been posted. this has remained a crime scene since that time. the police helicopter was up early in the investigation and now it seems they're waiting for the crime scene investigators to come out with the sunlight coming. it's going to be a little easier for them to do what they have to do. but, you know, commuters and pedestrians have already started to come through the scene because people live in the area and they have to get to work and school. police are allowing them to use the sidewalks, but that i have to keep the area around that
