university to bring in some much needed cash. will they have to give up too much to get it? >> the appearance. >> "news4 at 11":00 starts now. it's another chilly night out there after record setting cold this morning. some of us already back into the 30s right now. >> the good news is we are getting ready to warm up, folks. let's kick it off in the storm center now. doug is this going to be our last frigid morning for a while? >> i really think it will be. you say a while. this might be the last frigid morning for the next couple of weeks. 25 in martinsburg. 29 towards baltimore. those were both records. dulles at 27. nowhere like that tomorrow morning. we only managed to get to 56 degrees. that was with abundant sunshine in d.c. 52 in annapolis. we got to 36 in petersberg, west virginia. that's the milder air that will start to make its way in tomorrow. the cold won't last. the chilly air is moving out.

here comes not just the mild air, but the warm air. temperatures moving back into the 70s over the next couple of days. i'll explain how the warm air sticks around and why we may get a little colder as we head towards the weekend. >> thank you. police just identify the man arrested this the morning the killing of a 14-year-old boy. the suspect is shawn crawford. he is 48. police say he stabbed his girlfriend's two teenaged sons at their apartment on audrey lane in oxon hill. the younger boy, 14-year-old keyshaun mason died. she heard screaming this morning. >> reporter: the teenager had shared with friends before that he had issues with his mother's boyfriend, and that there were tensions at home. but they never knew it would come to this. >> terrible. >> reporter: alexis black heard the commotion in the apartment beneath her and knew something was terribly wrong.

>> it was like a football field of people fighting under me. it was really, really loud. you could hear them screaming, saying stuff. i just couldn't make out what i was saying because i am above them. >> reporter: but she had no idea the 14-year-old boy who lived in this second floor apartment, keyshaun mason was being stabbed to death, allegedly by his mother's live-in boyfriend, shawn crawford. >> well, it stopped. so i just paid it no attention. but then i started hearing the police sirens. i did not expect what happened. >> reporter: police were called here to audrey lane in oxon hill about 7:30 in the morning. keyshaun was dead. his 18-year-old brother was also stabbed. police say the victims and suspects live in the apartment. an argument led up to the stack. william sands says he knows the suspect. >> and he used to always -- the girl used to put him up. >> guess he got mad about that. he used to come in drunk all the time from what he is telling me.

i guess he got mad a starting going off. >> reporter: keyshaun was a ninth grader at potomac high school. classmates were told about his death at the end of the school day. >> it's just sad. he was so sweet. he had a future. he played football. he wasn't mean. none of the kids out here doing bad stuff. he was a nice kid. >> reporter: now online court information indicates that the suspect in this case has been involved in a number of domestic violence and peace order cases here in the state of maryland over the last few years. he is now being held without bond on murder charges. back to you. >> darcy spencer. prince george's county lawmakers are urging you to come out to a domestic violence town hall meeting tomorrow night. the county has the highest rate of domestic violence cases in the state of maryland. they're asking you to come with ideas on how to change that. the town hall is at 7:00 tomorrow night at suitland high school. october is domestic violence awareness month. two banks just a mile apart

were robbed in the past four days in d.c. tonight the fbi says the same man is behind both. the first happened friday at a citibank just inside the d.c. line on connecticut avenue. then a suntrust just down the street was robbed today. now these incredibly clear pictures here from today's robbery show the man the fbi says held up both banks there is a $5,000 reward offered for any information that leads to his arrest. protesters of baltimore's new police commissioner say they won't stop until their voices are heard. organizers held another rally tonight at the inner harbor after the city council confirmed kevin davis as the new police commissioner. earlier in the day, a larger group of people had marched through downtown protesting today's vote. davis had been acting as interim police commissioner since july. the protesters said since that time, police have gone too far to control peaceful protests. howard university is considering an auction of its

public television airspace to raise tens, maybe even hundreds of millions of dollars. the school has been struggling financially for years now. this past june moody's downgraded howard's credit rating for the third year in a row. now howard has a chance to raise some cash. but there is a cost. shomari stone joins us now live to explain. shomari? >> reporter: jim, is a a lot of people say it is not worth it. they say whut is an institution, and they want to it stay here at howard university. some students and alumni groups tell me they want the university the stay here, and they want the university to find other ways to get money. >> i was appalled. >> reporter: bruce chapman graduated from howard university in 1976. whut, the university's public tv station gives him a sense of pride. tonight he is concerned it could disappear next year. >> it's starting to have the appearance that howard is having a fire sale with everything.

and now it's the tv station. >> reporter: tonight news4 obtained the copy of the memorandum stating the president is considering auctions whut to the fcc. whut is the only black-owned public tv station in the u.s. the university would sell the spectrum, also known as the wireless communications signal. the fcc is buying tv airwaves from small stations and selling them to wireless carriers who use them for stronger networks. >> i feel like there are other ways we can come up a way to compensate for the debt that we have at howard university. >> reporter: the university reported a $44 million loss for the fiscal year of 2014. according to the letter, howard u could get anywhere for more than 100 to $500 million. >> the tv station now. what next, the radio station? those are two things i've been listening to for 30 years. >> reporter: now it's important to point out that nothing has been decided. howard has until late december to make a decision.

live here, i'm shomari stone, news4. >> shomari, thank you. the image of bill cosby's face still scotland yard tonight on the mural outside ben's chili this afternoon a man pealed away a sticker of kim jong un's face that had been slapped on the face. a street artist named smear leader said it would be better to look at the dictator than bill cosby who he called, quote, a sexual predator. ben's isn't commenting on the stunt today. the death of a transgender woman in montgomery county marks a 22nd murder of a transgender person in the united states this year. that's according to the national coalition of anti-violence programs. but it could be the first one we've seen in maryland. tonight the family of zella ziona wants prosecutors to bring hate crime charges against rico leblond. according to police, the two had known each other since middle school. leblond had two prior arrests.

in one case, the charges were dropped and he was waiting for trial on the other. ziona's family says it's time leblond is locked up for good. >> he doesn't need to be out on the street any longer. he doesn't deserve to walk the streets any longer. >> prosecutors say it's too early to know if they're going to charge leblond with a hate crime. new tonight, we're learning this fire in prince george's began because the family was trying to keep their house warm. tonight fire officials tell us a space heater ignited something inside the home here on sea pleasant drive this morning. family was not inside at the time. 16 families are sleeping somewhere else tonight after this big fire in largo, maryland. the blaze began around noon on the fourth floor of a town home here on green meadow way. prince george's county firefighters say everybody was already out of the building when they arrived. chopper 4 over the scene this afternoon. just before firefighters had the flames completely under control. the fire did about $100,000 in damage.

the race for the white house, a rowdy crowd in utah tonight supporting republican marco rubio. the presidential candidate pitching himself to a few hundred people in salt lake city as a fresh face in the gop's crowded primary. voters looking for an alternative to donald trump may be looking to rubio now. a new nbc news "wall street journal" poll shows him gaining ground. he is in third place at this point behind trump and ben carson, and followed by ted cruz and jeb bush. carly fiorina got a boost late this summer from her strong debate performances, but tonight she is in sixth place. the top two gop contenders think they need extra security on the campaign trail. both the trump and carson camps have requests in to the homeland security agency for secret service protection. carson has said he is receiving a lot of threats. meanwhile, trump says he needs it because his rallies have gotten so large. congressional leaders would have to sign off on the requests.

and new tonight, a change could be coming to the democratic field. jim webb is thinking about leaving the party and running for president as an independent. during the first democratic debate last week, the former virginia senator complained repeatedly about how little time he had to answer questions. we'll hear from his campaign tomorrow. next at 11:00, tracking down a hacker. how someone claiming to be a high school student got access to the cia director's e-mail. self-driving cars tested on virginia roads again tomorrow. the technology that could be right next to you in as little as two years. and the force awakens with a new "star wars" trailer. tickets already on sale for an opening night still two months away.

assume anybody can read your e-mail, and it comes at the expense of the nation's top spy. the nation tonight scouring records, trying to track down a high school student who says he hacked the personal e-mail of cia director john brennan. that student posted a spreadsheet on twitter tonight with the names and e-mails of former and current intelligence officials. brennan has an aol e-mail. the student says he coaxed verizon and aol to give him just enough information to reset the password. the fbi says it's also investigating if the student hacked into a cable account owned by homeland security secretary jeh johnson. it's not clear any classified information was compromised. it is almost day break right now in south africa, and for the first time in nearly a year, olympian oscar pistorius will wake up outside of a jail cell. he was released today a full day early in the dead of night, having only served one year of his five-year prison sentence

for killing his girlfriend in what he says was a terrible mistake. pistorius will serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest at his uncle's mansion. many of you want action after several more cars were left without their tires and wheels in northern virginia. we first told you about a rash of theft last night at the prince william county park and ride. it happened again on friday. four more cars left without their wheels. v-dot owns the lot, and many of you want them to install cameras in an effort to catch the crooks. we talked with v-dot. right now there are no plans to add cameras. it's something a lot of us have thought about, especially with our hectic traffic here. why can't we just hit a button and let our cars take over? technology experts say those days are closer than you might think. driverless cars will be tested out again tomorrow on the i-95 express lanes in virginia. how soon could you actually find this new technology in a new car? some experts say 2017.

45 leesburg. by this time last night, many areas were already down below freezing. 37. that's a cold spot towards culpeper. the radar is going to be all clear over the next couple days. really over the next week to week and a half. there is almost no chan of rain. and you can take a look. clear skies from new york all the way down towards atlanta. the wider picture here. not much in the way of clouds. we've got one front coming down from the north. that's going the pass us by to the north. as it does, it's going to bring in and allow some warm air to make its way up from the west and southwest. look at the high temperatures today. you can see where the cold was all over the northeast. 48 in boston. 56 in d.c. but 77 in mississippi. 83 in dallas. 81 in wichita. and here comes that warmer air. we're going to get warm, and we're going to get warm in a hurry. overnight low temperatures on the cold side. 36 in gaithersburg. 39 down towards fredericksburg, and 34 in winchester. temperatures will drop a few more degrees by early tomorrow morning. so wake up walking out the door 7:00 a.m., you're still going to need the coat early tomorrow morning. cold.

temperatures around 40 out at the bus stop. around 3:00 to four income the afternoon, though, those coats will come off. temperatures around 67 degrees. tomorrow will be a day that the kids will forget the coats or sweatshirts at school. trust me on that one. isn't that going to happen, doreen? >> yes. write the names in them tonight. >> good idea. write those names. 68 degrees for a high tomorrow in gaithersburg. 69 in d.c. 70s back towards the west as that warmer air really starts to come in. everybody gets into the 70s as we make our way into the day on wednesday and thursday. impact forecast. low impact, i think, for most of us. a cold start, yes. but that's about the biggest impact we have. by around 9:00, 10:00, with plenty of sunshine, we're going to rebound very nicely. i mentioned those temperatures. high of 69 in d.c. tomorrow 72. on wednesday, 76 on thursday. moving in the right direction. then we'll see a cold front come through. that cold front will lower temperatures for the weekend. high temperatures on friday. upper 50s to low 60s ieb(e the weekend mid-60s.
