blocking left side of the roadway, we're a little slow headed into that here this morning and then,0 through urba. looking at 66, no major problem there, 90 northbound. we have a crash off to the right side. it is not as slow as it was a short time ago. branch avenue sounds like the crash is off to the right side. still have some volume delays. live look at that situation from chopper in ten minutes. today we expect a judge to sentence a man for murdering his wife and mother-in-law. malcolm thomas pled guilty earlier this fall. thomas brutally beat both women to death in their home in oxon hill in august of 2014. the judge previously said he plans to sentence thomas to 60 years with all but 50 of them suspended. we're learning new information from neighbors about a tragic stabbing that left a 14-year-old dead in oxon hill. neighbors at the apartments there on audrey lane say it

sounded like a football field of people fighting yesterday morning. prince george's county police say sean crawford stabbed his girlfriend's two sons. keyshaun mason died, his 18-year-old brother survived. crawford is now facing murder charges. today, you can help end domestic violence in prince george's county. the county has the highest number of domestic violence cases in the state of maryland. at tonight's meeting, lawmakers will ask for your input on how to change that. it is set for 7:00 p.m. october is domestic violence awareness month. by the end of today, selling tobacco to an underaged buyer could come with bigger fines in montgomery county. underage sales are a growing problem in the county. that's why council members are now considering tougher punishment. molette green is live with more on the changes. good morning. >> some say the penalties currently are just too low, while businesses are cashing in.

residents get to weigh in on the plan to boost these fines from 500 to $1,000 for the first offense and every time they get caught, violators get slapped with another thousand dollar fine. now, our news 4 i-team cameras caught some store clerks in the act over the summer, selling cigarettes to minors, without asking for i.d. and when the store clerk did ask, in many of those cases, they did not even bother to check the i.d. county stats show one in five businesses is currently selling to minors. so there is also a big push to add more money for inspectors to try to get around to do more of these compliance checks. the public hearing is set for 1:30 this afternoon in rockville. i'm molette green, reporting live from gaithersburg. back to you. >> thank you, molette. today in maryland, officials will launch a campaign to help hz theft. attorney general brian frost and craig zucker will be at the

announcement in baltimore. back in 2012, the response to the bill -- child i.d. theft is hard to combat because the victims don't realize they have been targeted until years later. kevin davis has the job of baltimore police commissioner. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake said she's grateful for davis. he met with them on sunday and adopted some of their demands. the mayor said she was confused by continuing protests last night. this fight is now being reviewed by state officials. one of the boxers suffered a brain injury in the match that took place in fairfax. our news partner wtop is reporting the state agency responsible for licensing those matches is trying to determine whether any laws or regulations were violated. the fight in fairfax was

broadcast on nbc 4 and showed cologne getting knocked down twice. he later passed out in the locker room. on his facebook page, the family said the fighter is showing reflexes in hands and feet despite being in a coma. he's being treated at a fairfax hospital. an ethics panel wants to make it illegal for politicians to use campaign cash for personal use. members say that still is happening more than a year after the corruption convictions of bob mcdonnell and his wife maureen. at its final meeting last night, washington post reports the committee recommended reclassifying certain money sources as income to be more transparent about how lawmakers are using the money they get. the future of i-66 getting a lot of pushback after a community meeting. more than 100 people showed up for public information meeting last week. there are three more meetings about the toll lanes planned for this week. we will post the dates and times in the nbc washington app. the tolling plan would cost commuters too much money.

right now, someone new set to be in charge in canada. they chose a new prime minister. this is justin trudeau, the son of former prime minister pierre tru trudeau. he has at least a 54% majority in the parliament there. it was supposed to be a training exercise for emergency responders in texas. but it turned into the real deal. >> you're good. during a swift water training

breaking down new poll numbers. just in on that race for president. according to the nbc news wall street journal poll, hillary clinton takes a 20-point lead over bernie sanders following that first democratic debate. this increases her lead. this among party primary voters. as for the joe biden factor, 30% say they want to see the vice president run versus the 38% who say they don't. with biden included in this poll of democratic voters, clinton gets support from nearly half at 49%. that's at 7% increase from last month. with biden excluded, clinton's backing jumped to 58% and that's the standard 33%. voters were questioned for the poll that has a margin of error of plus or minus 5%. we move to the republican side now. marco rubio gaining ground in the republican presidential

race. a new poll showing him in third place now. donald trump leading the pack followed by ben carson and ted cruz and jeb bush. carly fiorina got a boost late this summer from her strong debate performances. this morning she's in sixth place. today we may learn more about a big change to the democratic field. jim webb is thinking about leaving the party and running for president as an independent. webb's campaign announced yesterday that he would not be attending the iowa democratic annual jefferson jackson dinner later this fall. during the first democratic debate, the former virginia senator complained repeatedly about how little time he had to answer questions. the montgomery county board of elections will keep an early voting site in bethesda. the board voted unanimously yesterday. the board had little choice in the matter. last week the maryland board of elections rejected the county board's initial plan to move early voting sites from bethesda to potomac.

starting to have the appearance that they're having a fire sale with everything and now it is the tv station. >> alumni and current students reacting to news that howard university could be selling its tv station. just yesterday howard officials sent out a letter detailing the situation there, they're considering auctioning the public television air space and wireless signal to the fcc to raise ten, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars. the fcc would turn around and sell it to a wireless carrier. the school has been struggling financially for several years. now howard has a chance to raise cash but not everybody sees it that way. >> i feel like there are other ways we can come up with a way to compensate for the debt we have here at howard university. >> university officials say that nothing has been decided yet. they have until december to make a decision on the auction. whut is the only black-owned television station in the country. a mother and her boyfriend should be in court today to face charges in the death of a little

girl you may remember as baby doe. the 2-year-old is actually bella bond. her remains washed up on a boston beach inside a trash bag in june. investigators said rachel bond told a friend that michael mccarthy killed bella. mccarthy's lawyer says his client knew nothing about bella's death. this morning the family of a murdered transgender woman wants prosecutors to bring hate crime charges against her suspected killer. relatives say zella ziona met rico leblond in middle school. leblond has two prior arrests and one case charges were dropped. he's waiting for trial on the other. the death marks the 22nd murder of a transgender person in the united states this year. that's according to the national coalition of anti-violence programs. there is still some damage on the bill cosby mural outside ben's chili bowl in d.c. yesterday afternoon a man peeled

little slower than typical because of an earlier crash. once you get through clarksburg, things clear out of the way and you don't have to worry any longer. i'll see you back here in ten minutes. 6:24 now. families are reuniting for the first time in decades. the countries agreed to allow the nearly 400 siblings, spouses and children to see each other again. for many it is the first time they're meeting since the war between the two countries. more than 60 years ago. officials now believe an eel, not a shark, may have attacked a hawaii surfer this weekend. first worried about sharks. and now eels. the victim and another man were swimming back to shore when he was bitten on the legs. officials thought it was a shark because there was a shark attack nearby just a few hours earlier. but hawaii's coral reef are made of eels including some with large sharp teeth.

>> not as cold this morning. autumn one of my four favorite seasons of the year. we have four distinct seasons and feeling like autumn now with temperatures in the 30s, but not as cold as yesterday, but jumping into the upper 60s, prince george's, upper 60s, county by county highs across northern virginia, upper 60s to around 70 degrees with lots of sunshine. and in southern maryland, gorgeous day there too as well as around the bay. in the upper 60s to near 70 and lots of sunshine there. and off to our north, the counties across the pennsylvania border, around 70 degrees. gorgeous day as well as we get into the mountains, we'll have afternoon highs there, reaching the low 70s. the warmest weather is going to be out in the mountains, a switch. that's because the warmer weather is coming in from the west and that's going to be moving in and coming right over us for the next couple of days. you have an update on that crash, a new one now. >> we have another new crash

really couldn't believe what he found. look at some video we have from vandalism and theft that happened most recently. this time thieves stripped all four tires from a mustang parked in horner road park and ride lot friday and left the car sitting on landscaping blocks. they did the same thing to a honda. this is the third time these thefts have happened in this loss since september. seems to come in waves. this one man i mentioned told us this morning how his car's exhaust was stolen. >> one day came back and big noise and that's when i go down and look at it and, like, man, somebody just cut off my exhaust. >> prince william county police told us that they are going to do something. they're going to set up temporary mobile cameras around the lot as well as step up police patrols and including

plain clothes officers. some people have asked about permanent cameras. vdot which owns the lot says while they do provide lighting, there are no plans to put in permanent cameras at this point. back to you. >> kristin wright, thank you. 6:34 is your time. the fbi is looking for this man who they say robbed two d.c. banks. these are surveillance photos from the robberies. there is a $5,000 reward offer for any information that leads to his arrest. first robbery happened friday at a city bank just inside the d.c. line on connecticut avenue northwest. then a sun trust just down the street was robbed yesterday. the banks are one mile apart. did a high school student hack into the private e-mail account of one of america's top spies? the cia is not saying anything about it yet. the hacker claims to have access to both cia director john brennan's e-mail and homeland security jeh johnson's comcast billing account. he tweeted a link of what

appears to be a list of some of brennan's contracts. nbc news found out all he had to do with fool verizon and aol into resetting the account passwords. the new york post first reported the infiltration and says the hacker is protesting u.s. foreign policy. a space heater caused this home to go up in flames. these are pictures of the devastation on seat pleasant drive yesterday morning. the family was not inside at the time. happening today, frederick county residents can weigh in on medical marijuana. new legislation means strict state regulations on the growing, processing and dispensing of medical marijuana in the state. the local government can only get involved in zoning matters. so lawmakers want to hear from residents. a public hearing set for today at 4:30 at winchester hall. we have been hearing more and more about them lately, the self-driving cars and now technology experts say they are closer to becoming a reality for everyone. driverless cars will be tested out again today on the 95 express lanes in virginia.

awareness month. right now, a big reward for two men accused in an assault in baltimore. federal agents with the atf are offering a $5,000 reward for their investigation into the men. police say the men seriously hurt another man punching and kicking him during the riots in baltimore earlier this year. that attack happened just before a liquor store was set on fire. agents already made an arrest in that case. for the next five years, kevin davis has the job of baltimore's police commissioner. people filled the streets as the city council voted to confirm him yesterday. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake said she's grateful for davis and his attention to a group of demonstrators. he met with them sunday and adopted some of their demands. the mayor said she was confused by continuing protests last night. new video and information into the live desk on a huge fire in new york city happening now. take a look at this. this is a building in chelsea, totally consumed by flames and
