the shooting happened in a courtyard and we find out a lockdown has been lifted. we now learn a 20-year-old is the driver killed in last night's crash in takoma park. the 16-year-old boy and girl in the car with him are expected to recover. he was driving up carroll avenue around 7:30, jumped the curb and hit a brick wall. no other cars involved. now investigators are looking to see whether speed or alcohol was involved in the crash. "rolling stone" magazine wants a court case dismissed. the students say they can be identify by an article. the richmond times dispatch reporting the former students are each asking for more than $75,000 in damages. justin 6:03 now. developing this morning paul ryan is in the race for speaker of the house. he wrote a letter to republicans announcing his candidacy. this announcement comes a day

developing right now, major investigation just starting into a crash that killed more than 40 people in france. this happened just a few hours ago. we know at least 42 people died when a logging truck and a bus slammed into each other and then they both caught fire. now, we just learned the bus driver may have saved eight people's living by opening the door so they could escape. the bus had several elderly people on board. those who survived are being treated for severe injuries and burns right now. here at the live desk we're also tracking a shooting in the district. a man was shot at seventh and "s" not far from the metro station. there are some road closures in that area. the 600 block of "s" street is
