hearing. how she plans to move forward. the campaign shake-up tonight for one of the top republicans in the race for the white house. we'll also hear from the family of a woman murdered in her maryland home. why they say police should have responded differently. >> we begin right now on the breaking news of the hurricane. they say it has to do with catastrophic damage including a report from the national hurricane center. first, chris is at he live desk. chris. >> we're getting new video into the newsroom from people who hunkered down and tried to ride out this storm. seeing a hurricane this big is one thing. you have to hear those winds to get the full scope of it. that's from a balcony in the

nearest big city, more than 50 miles where that form made landfall. patricia came up with winds of 165 miles an hour and we're already hearing flooding and landslides in some areas. and from an instagram account, mexican authorities have evacuated 15,000 people in hotels and put them in shelters. a lot of people thought puerta villar ta would take a live hit were happy to see the storm go south. >> it will quickly make its way through mexico. and patricia will be dimini diminishing. the most intense for the western hemisphere and over the last four hours it really has started weak weakening. the center of the storm system well inland as a category 4. it has weakened to 130 miles an

hour and picked up speed at 15 to 20 miles an hour and will continue to do so as it weakens by saturday afternoon, look at this, all the way into areas of northeast mexico approaching texas where it will meet up with another storm system. winds at 130 and drops in six hours time pebarely to hurrican status and then by tomorrow, winds down to 60 miles an hour. it's not the wind, the rain, could be flooding and mudslides and i'll show you the impact what's left of patricia could have onour area midweek. >> family and friends lit can e candles and prayed tonight for a woman killed inside her home in prince george's county. amanda jones was found stabbed to death and her daughter found her the next morning. family members wonder if her life could have been saved. >> friends and relatives remember 56-year-old amanda jones as a loving mother who

worked at a daycare center. they paid tribute to her at a candlelight vigil outside her house where police say she was murdered. >> what's going through my mind, it's unbelievable, hard to believe. >> reporter: audrey misses her cousin and grew up in d.c. >> i knew her growing up and she was one-of-a-kind. >> reporter: 911 calls give a glimpse of what led up to her being found dead. a man phoned monday night saying he was at home with her when she arrived home. me and her were talking on the phone as she was driving her car and then when she got to her house was going in the house i heard howling and screaming. >> reporter: police said they did a welfare check and knocked on the door and did not go inside, and in the morning they fouthey -- her daughter found her body. >> i think they could have done more than they did.

if there was a phone call, something was up. >> reporter: her boyfriend admitted to her murder. >> i will miss her dearly. >> reporter: tonight, her boyfriend is charged with murder and they're trying to find a motive in this case. we're working to find out what caused this bus accident in prince george's county, chopper 4 over the intersection of dice and brandybrandywine. five people including a stunt were taken to the hospital and all expected to be okay. the driver killed in this crash in takoma park was less than a mile from his home. 20-year-old was found in this car and two other passengers will survive. they're trying to figure out what caused him to veer off the

road. hilary clinton sat down with rachel maddow after her 11 hour hearing. she asked her what came out of that hearing saying the chair said her answers were similar to testimony she had already given. >> if there is anything new, which is unlikely after the eight prior investigations that have been held, we should know about it because the point is what are we going to do to both honor the people that we lost and try to make sure it doesn't happen again? >> clinton campaigned in d.c. and alex can dra today with two democrats dropping out of the race this week, political observers say clinton is starting to solidify support within her party. jeb bush was in virginia beach today defending his decision to make drastic spe spending cuts to his campaign. they announced a 40% reduction in payroll letting go of staff members at bush's miami

headquarters and 20% cut in travel costs. dur a forum, the reverend pat robertson asked bush if the moves are a sign of campaign in trouble? bush said donald trump's rise caught everyone by surprise and now his team is changing its approach. >> i have not met a person that thought donald trump would be the front running candidate at this point. god bless him for his success in that regard. we'll see how long that lasts. but you have to adapt. >> bush is looking up at trump and ben carson in this polls. recent polls show carson is the new front-runner in iowa. carson is sure to talk his momentum along with other hot button issues when he sits down with chuck todd from "meet the press" sunday. you can see it on nbc4. still to come, the results of a new autism study and they indicate some children are being misdiagnosed. u.s. government researchers found about 9% of children who

were diagnosed with autism eventually had that diagnosis changed. researchers believe non-specialnon non-specialists are mistakine i language and developmental de y delays for autism and they actually had hyper deficit activity disorder or adhd. back here at the live desk, we're getting our first look at the parking garage that partially collapsed in dallas, send debris cascading down. it left a hole the size of several cars. first responders rushed to the scene with especially trained dogs that can find people in situations like this. so far they haven't detected any victims and the cameras didn't record any people in their cars when the cars collapsed. construction crews had been remodeling the rooftop pool and left bricks and equipment up there and those may have

collected a lot of water over the past few days of storms. thank you. dozens of people gathered at a restaurant in frederick county to remember a u.s. marine last month. corporal william farrell stopped to help a driver who was having car trouble. police said that driver who shi him sped off. >> the leather necks motorcycle group hosted the fund-raiser event. 10% will be given to ferrell' family and the driver has not been found. a laundry room in a virginia apartment building and the suspect is on the loose. this happened at canterbury square just off duke street. a man approached a woman and she hit back in the face with the nozzle of a vacuum, cutting him

and he told her to stay still while he ran off. a man pleases guilty for two attacks in hyattsville back in 2013. he raped a woman and a 14-year-old at gunpoint just 15 minutes apart. dna also linked him to a sex assault in montgomery county hours earlier. he's currently serving 20 years for that attack. tomorrow morning the showplace arena in upper marlboro will be packed with potential gun buyers for the first time in several years. prince george's's county put up moratorium on the gun shows in 2012. new gun laws in the state allow shows to be held now, so vendors are back at the arena this weekend but with some restrictions including no ammunition. >> we never ever had an issue here, ever. they really surprised me, no ammo, only way. >> okay.

will -- patricia will enter texas this weekend dropping up to a foot of rain in some parts of texas. some of us will never know what it's like to give or receive a transplanted organ. it's easy to see how that can turn strangers into fast friends. a group of strangers made history with three living kidney donations on the same day by three separate hospitals. the three people who needed kidneys couldn't find matches in their own families but each had a friend or relative willing to give a kidney to a total stranger in exchange for a matching donor for their loved one. >> i think we should get together once a year in july sometime, as close to the date as we can and that way keep in touch and have dinner and talk and let everybody know how they're doing. >> the united network of organ sharing helped get together the

donors and recipients. 40,000 people will participate in marine corps marathon this sunday morning. a few dozen will represent the children's inn for nih and raise money even for future patients. jackie was there for their pre-race pasta dinner. >> reporter: some had never set foot in here prior to lining up for a mouth watering pasta buffet this evening. each runner with friends and family accompanying them to the dinner had a heart for the children at nih. >> it's a very inspiring opportunity for me to run alongside two families running with us. >> reporter: the children's inn at the national health for children in bethesda is a place for children to stay while receiving treatment for serious illness. teammate, pamela, who flew in from florida will be running

here's the marathon route. runners begin in arlington, head across the key bridge in d.c. and a loop to crystal city and finish up hopefully at the iwo jima memorial. you can join for the walk to end hiv in downtown d.c. this is video from last year's event. it benefits any infected with or by hiv and aids. it begins at freedom plaza and 9:15 tomorrow morning and "news4 today" anchor you eng and chuck bell. it will be a chilly start. >> i've been out there and seen some events when temperatures are low and in the 40s, you want to start the race. hopefully they'll have a good warm-up. i know she will get them energized and so will chuck bell.

we're starting out in the 40s, right inside the beltway. there will be a lot of suburbs starting in the 30s tomorrow morning. i'm calling that cold, chilly for the start of the hiv aids walk. temperatures will rise to 49, 50 degrees, by 9:00 a.m. we have sunshine on tap by tomorrow, 11:00 a.m., lurch-tnc by 54, 55 degrees, we max out to 60. higher in fredericksburg and stafford and 62 in frederick tomorrow. we hit that 55 degree mark again by lunchtime and 60s for a good chunk of your afternoon. it will be a nice day to get out and do quite a bit. high clouds tomorrow morning and sunday afternoon. and spotty showers. this is sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. you can see all the clouds. focus on those showers because they're out of here by 10:00 a.m. to lunchtime and we will start seeing more sunshine for

the afternoon after about 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on sunday. here's the forecast for the marine corps marathon, 9:00 a.m. clouds, 11:00 a.m., maybe a spotty shower but looking better and drier. chilly and spotty showers. once we get that sunshine, temperatures will rise quickly could be higher than 65 degrees. one thing we're seeing is high color, peak color in spots of west virginia and all the way to areas of west virginia where we have peak colors. this will be a good weekend for getting out. look at the moisture as hurricane patricia makes her way eastward hitting our area wednesday in the afternoon hours. temperatures stay on the cooler side in the 60s. wednesday afternoon and thursday morning right now, at the moment, it doesn't look as if we will have heavy rain or wind but we will have showers coming
