starting off early this morning we do have just a few high clouds beginning to drift over the metro area. those high clouds will begin to thicken up a bit as we get into the afternoon hours. they're ahead of a cool front that will be triggering some rain but not arriving until after midnight tonight. storm team 4 radar scanning our skies. don't have any rain anywhere in the vicinity. so a beautiful saturday morning is getting under way. temperatures are hovering near 40 in the rural areas. mid and upper 40s in washington. our future weather here just a few high clouds coming this during the afternoon hours. this is as of 11:00 tonight we'll begin to see these showers moving in hour by hour coming in to the panhandle of west virginia. by 3:00 on sunday morning, we'll have the showers getting into the shenandoah valley and then closer to the metro area, this is 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning a few light sprinkles coming through the metro area. just a few light showers. then by 8:00 still maybe a few lingering light showers for

early tomorrow morning for the marine corps marathon. we'll have more detail on that and a look at big changes coming for the week ahead. that will be in just a few minutes. back to you. >> thank you, tom. new this morning, news 4 captured this video of what appears to be a maryland park police car involved in an accident late last night. this happened in bowie near benjamin pastor middle school. we're making calls to find out what happened here. right now one of the strongest storms ever recorded is causing flooding and landslides through parts of mexico. hurricane patricia hit mexico's pacific coast last night and it's rapidly weakening as it moves inland. kirk gregory shows us the damage and how millions are riding it out. >> reporter: hurricane patricia made landfall in mexico not far from the resorts of manzanillo and puerto vallarta.

residents tried to protect homes and many u.s. and canadian tourists that vacation in the area tried to get out or make their way to shelters to ride out the storm. >> so we were evacuated from our hotel this morning for the hurricane. we came to this convention center and then they said it's not a safe place so we're going to the texaco center. >> reporter: people in puerto vallarta were surprised they woke to a huge hurricane today. >> a little bit worried and nervous. like curious. and i guess hopeful that it's going to turn out good. >> reporter: winds were 165 miles an hour at landfall. mexican authorities declared a state of emergency at open shelters. there are about 7 million people in the area. the national hurricane center

predicts the storm will lose intensity once it hits mexico's interior mountains but may tribute to flooding in texas. >> wow. well, new this morning two men are arrested in montgomery county after authorities say they stole hand guns from a vehicle assigned to a federal agent. travis klor and johnson apparently broke into the car, stole a back pack containing two handguns issued to the agent. this happened in clarksburg on thursday morning. both men face multiple charges and remain in police custody. friends and family of a prince george's woman are wondering if more could have been done to prevent her murder. those who loved amanda jones lit candles and prayed outside her home. a friend called police twice after hearing what sounded like a struggle twice.

>> i think they could have done better than they did. if they got telephone calls, something was up. >> they tell us her boyfriend admitted to the murder. frightening details about an attempted rape in alexandria happened just about 24 hours ago on canterbury square. she was in a basement laundry room when a man grabbed her from behind. he tried to take her clothes off. she fought back and hit him in the face with a vacuum cleaner. that cut him. he took out a knife and told her to stay in the room as he ran off. now to a developing story on capitol hill. there's barely a week left to vote and gop leaders are struggling to find the votes to raise the debt limit. they are trying to avoid the first-ever government default. that could mean a big problem for the new leader of the house. they promised to act next week but many are worried about the meeting november 3rd deadline.

payments for vets and social security recipients will run out early next month. hillary clinton continues her campaign in iowa where she'll joined by her husband, president clinton, in one of his first appearances on the campaign trail. clinton talked with rachel ma o maddow last night. >> i want to build on the progress that they are leaving behind. i want to go further but i think the real point of this election is whether or not the republicans will be able to turn the clock back and rip away the progress that has been made. >> political analysts say clinton is started to solidify support among democrats. jeb bush pledging to make cuts to his campaign. his campaign announced a 40% cut in payroll and a 20% cut in travel costs. staff members at bush's miami

the kansas city royals are going to take on the new york mets in this year's world series. the royals beat the toronto blue jays, 4-3, last night. kansas city lost the world series to san francisco last year. now they're going to get their second chance. they host the mets for game one of the world series. it starts on tuesday. congratulations to them. new this morning, investigators in southern california are working to find out what caused a paper manufacturing plant to catch fire. flames were sent shooting through the roof in california last night. nobody was hurt, but it took

waist and holding on to the metal on the bridge trying not to let go. >> a lot of close calls out there. parts of texas are dealing with flooding from a separate system bringing heavy downpours and stranding cars just like this. floodwaters have backed up traffic for 12 miles on one interstate. the big problem now is dealing with more rain expected to come from what's left over of hurricane patricia. beyond the call of duty -- that's how defense secretary ash carter described a u.s. soldier killed in an iraqi hostage rescue. army master sergeant joshua wheeler died thursday. secretary carter described the battle that involved u.s. troops transporting kurdish troops to the scene. he said american troops were not supposed to even enter the prison, but when a firefight broke out, wheeler responded, helping the mission succeed. the man charged with a road rage shooting that killed a 4-year-old new mexico girl, had been arrested for violent crimes in the past but was never prosecuted. tony torres was suspected off ig

a> aggravated violence. each time the cases were dropped. officials are calling on state lawmakers to have reforms after lilly garcia was killed. some children are suggested to be misdiagnosed. u.s. government researchers found 9% of children diagnosed with autism eventually had that diagnosis change. researchers believe they are mistaking some language and developmental delays for autism. many of those who were misdiagnosed told they actually have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as adhd. happening today area children will kick off this weekend's marine corps marathon with a fun run. kids 5 to 12 years old will run one mile in the pentagon north parking lot. also happening in the pre and post area is an interactive festival for kids and their

i'll never forget having a little piece of scrap paper and writing on that scrap paper cancer. >> reporter: she was just 41. it was her second routine mammogram. >> knowing what that feels like as a mother, as a wife, as a child was probably the worst day of my life. >> reporter: shari tested positive for the braca gene and had a double mastectomy, her ovaries removed and breast reconstruction. >> it was painful. i was limited, one, how much i was able to push or pull or lift. >> reporter: after that surgery, shari, a physical therapist, ached to start training at the bar method in north potomac with this team of women as she worked her way back into her workouts. >> i was able to modify thanks to the amazing instructors here. >> reporter: she says she

a bright morning under way with a clear sky, and we have dry pavement all around. if you're about to head out the door to go leaf peeping this morning or maybe head over to the bay, the eastern shore, no travel problems weatherwise. storm team 4 radar all clear. don't have any rain anywhere near our vicinity. however, way off to our west, we do have showers here. light rain ohio, kentucky, down no tennessee. this is all part of a cool front that will be sweeping through our region by late tonight. the leading edge of this rain not coming into the shenandoah valley maybe until around midnight and then into our metro area that will be after midnight tonight. off to a cool start this morning. right now we're in the nearby suburbs, the low 40s prince george's, montgomery counties. near 50 around the bay. some mild air shenandoah valley now. in the low to mid-50s there. a look at that and changes on the way for next week in a few minutes. >> tom, thank you. developing this morning a

nightclub in northeast has been shut down while police investigate a homicide. cathy lanier has ordered the owner to close its doors for 96 hours. 19-year-old eric jones was stabbed early thursday morning after a fight outside the club. jones later died at the hospital. chief lanier says security guards broke up a fight twice but did not tell police even though two d.c. officers were there working in an approved overtime shift. in a few hours the show place arena in upper marlboro will be packed with potential gun buyers for the first time in years. prince george's county put a moratorium on gun shows. new laws allow the show to be held again. there are some restrictions including no ammunition. >> never, ever, ever had an issue here, ever. and they really surprised me, no ammo. we went, well, okay. >> people who buy guns legally, who follow the rules, who get

the training, who are fingerprinted, we're not interested in prohibiting those people from having guns. we want to make sure guns are not falling in the hands of violent and dangerous people. >> now vendors say they'll make sure buyers follow all state requirements. the show runs from 9:00 this morning until 5:00 this afternoon. the death toll in the doctors without borders bombing has risen. now 23 people have died after air strikes hit near the charity facility earlier this month. president barack obama apologized for the incident. the commander of u.s. and nato forces says it was a mistake. investigations are under way. new this morning that convicted theater shooter james holmes was assaulted by a fellow inmate. mark daniels is being charged with assaulting holmes and a correctional officer. the incident happened in a hallway as the inmates were being moved. daniels lunged at holmes and took a few swings. neither holmes nor the correctional officer was hurt there. police in los angeles say four people broke into and robbed the home of desean

jackson. it happened early wednesday morning. jackson has been there practicing with the team. there are reports there were about six people in the house at the time and they fought off the intruders until they ran away. police are still investigating but have reached a dead end. they say they have no leads or suspects. taking a look this morning at virginia politics. it should be a fairly simple day at the polls on november 3. less than half of the contest will have more than one candidate. in the state senate, 22 out of 40 races have more than one candidate. only six expected to be close. >> president obama is making the rounds on the internet this morning for a pop culture reference about republicans. it's one you may not expect. take a listen. >> it does make you wonder why is it that republican politicians are so down on america? have you noticed that? i mean, they are gloomy.

visit their memorial. 40,000 runners have been hard at work training for tomorrow's marine corps marathon and 10k. the race means lots of road closures so we take a look here. this is the marathon route. you can have an idea what areas will be impacted. runners start in arlington. they cross into d.c., head back to arlington before finishing at the hiroshima memorial. and that marathon is a real test of endurance for 26.2 miles. >> you know. >> well, yeah. done it twice and that's enough. >> i have not. i'll run one mile. it's not easy. and a lot of these runners have been training for months. megan fitzgerald introduces us to a local couple with a powerful reason to race. >> that's right after i got back from the second deployment. the picture says it all. >> reporter: pictures say so many things. they can capture moments that remind us of our commitment. >> we just passed our eight-year anniversary in september.

>> reporter: teresa and dave's love story started in college, never knowing where their journey would lead. >> i knew he was going into the military when we met. i didn't know what that meant but i knew -- >> me either. >> reporter: two years later they found out it meant dave was going to war. he and his platoon deployed to afghanistan in 2009. >> i didn't really know what to think. it was scary. i was home with an 18-month baby. >> reporter: he was in a combat zone while teresa tried to manage things back at home until she found an escape. teresa joined a running group with other women whose spouses were deployed. running became her distraction. it was something she didn't realize how much she needed until she got the call. >> my vehicle was the third one back, ran over an 80 pound ied right underneath my seat. >> reporter: dave suffered from a traumatic brain injury that

affects his short-term memory. he received a purple heart and returned home. >> we tried to hold on to every moment together. >> reporter: but dave was deployed again and when he would return teresa could tell things had changed. >> he has come back a little different every single time. >> reporter: but teresa says when there's love and there's a commitment, there's always a way back to each other. over the last several months -- >> teresa? >> reporter: they've been training for the marine corps marathon. dave will admit the training hasn't been easy. >> it was brutal. i did it because, like she said, beak far from family and stuff like that we didn't have opportunities to spend time together but that was one of them. >> reporter: but if you ask them, they'll both tell you it's been worth it. because on race day, it won't matter who finishes first. it's about their commitment and love for each other. >> running with him and

afternoon so a delightful day to get out and see some awesome autumn color. i took this picture of a covered bridge in frederick county yesterday morning. and there are several covered bridges there and beautiful autumn color off just to our west. we have peak autumn color. all these zones in the red, that's most of the panhandle of west virginia, much of the shenandoah valley, too. we have quite a bit of beautiful color up the higher elevations. there is peak autumn color just to our west. a great day to get out and see that before the wind starts to bring some of those leaves down. in fact, we'll have some of those leaves coming down as we get into sunday afternoon. and all around our region now we have our temperatures hovering near 40. don't have anything on the storm team 4 radar locally. there is rain out here in kentucky, ohio, down into tennessee. that's going to be arriving here. unfortunately for the marine corps marathon tomorrow morning. looks like maybe just some light showers and sprinkles and chilly in the 50s through much of the

race and then by 11:00 in the low 60s. but most of it should be ending by then, just a few lingering sprinkles and then the sun back sunday afternoon, highs reaching the upper 60s tomorrow afternoon with a little bit of a breeze knocking some of the leaves down tomorrow afternoon, gusting to around 20 miles an hour. the wind settles down on monday. a chilly start monday morning in the upper 40s. afternoon highs, low 60s on monday and a chilly day on tuesday, too, with increasing clouds. some rain is likely on tuesday afternoon and into wednesday as well. some rain likely, occasional showers. highs reaching the upper 60s. after that we dry out, a beautiful day next thursday. upper 60s and low 70s with lots of sunshine, sunny, cooler on friday with highs in the low 60s. that's your seven-day outlook. >> sounds good, thanks, tom. a delivery dilemma. the new problem facing online shoppers.
