we can see the camera overlooking union stage that's flapping gently. a few breaks in the clouds south of the metro area. a little bit of sunshine. a chilly morning but then warming up to a cool and crisp autumn day. we could use rain. no rain on storm team 4 radar. all clear, all dry. beautiful weather around there. heading off to the mountains, beautiful color along skyline drive. scattered areas to our west. it is increasingly cloudy ahead of some showers that are right now moving into the ohio valley and down to kentucky and tennessee. i have the timing on that hour by hour and a look all coming up. >> thank you, tom. well, new this morning, news 4 captured this video of what appears to be a maryland park

police car. we're still making calls to find out what happened there. we'll update you when we know more. >> hurricane patricia is rapidly weakening as it moves inland. bringing heavy rain, a lot of high winds, flooding and landslides. the threat is not over yet. the rain from the storm could make flooding worse in parts of texas. >> two men are arrested after authorities say they stole handguns. they apparently broke into the car and stole a back pack conta containing handguns. both men face multiple charges and remain in police custody this morning. >> friend and family of a woman are wondering if more could have been done to prevent her murder.

amanda jones was stabbed to death monday night in the perry wood neighborhood of upper marlboro. those who loved her lit candles and prayed outside her house last night. a friend called for help twice after hearing what sounded like a struggle twice. police knocked on jones' door but did not go inside. >> i think they could have done better than they did. if they got telephone calls, something was up. >> her boyfriend admitted to the murder. investigators are still trying to figure out why he would do that. >> this morning police are still searching for the suspect in an attempted rape. it happened in alexandria just off duke street. police say a woman was in the basement laundry room when he grabbed her from behind. she hit him in the face with the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. that cut him. he pulled out a knife and told her to stay in the room as he

ran off. >> there's barely a week left to vote and gop leaders are trying to avoid the first ever government default and that could mean some big problems for the new speaker of the house, republican leaders have promised to act next week but many are still worries about meeting that november 3rd deadline. if the matter is not resolved, federal employees and others will run out early next month. hillary clinton will be joined by her husband, former president clinton. it's one of his first appearances on the campaign trail. clinton talked with rachel maddow about her goals as president after president obama leaves. >> i want to build on the process. i want to go further but i think the real point of this election is whether or not the

welcome back. we're following a developing story from the las vegas area where a woman froze to death in a cry otherapy chamber. friends say the 24-year-old was alone closing up the shop earlier this week. investigators believe she was in the chamber for at least ten hours and may have used the machine without assistance and she suffocated. the treatment exposes people to extremely cold air but usually only for just a few minutes. new this morning investigators in southern california are working hard to find out what caused a paper manufacturing plant to catch fire. flames were sent shooting through the roof in california last night. take a look at this video. nobody, though, was hurt, but it did take several hours to get

the fire under control. >> mystery surround a parking deck collapse in dallas, texas, this morning. take a look. this is amazing. the top level of the parking deck fell through the structure, left a large gaping hole through a large part of the building. concrete debris smashed several cars on the floors below. the cause of the collapse under investigation. >> water rescues, stranded drivers, canceled flights. why it's so dangerous to just try to cross the streets there this morning. let's take a look outside the window in our backyard in northwest d.c. and towards capitol hill. tom kierein timing out the next time that we could see some showers. >> do you need something to do? here's what's happening this weekend. the pinky party is at howard university. they're going to have breast cancer awareness workshops and events starting at 10:00 a.m. and then hosting the first ever family field fest to celebrate the opening of the multipurpose athletic field. that begins at 11:00 at the new field.

traffic on interstate 45 for 12 miles. rain from what's left of hurricane patricia may only add to that problem. we will get a live report from the weather channel's mike seidel in about eight minutes. beyond the call of duty is how secretary ash carter described a u.s. soldier killed in iraq hostage rescue. army master sergeant joshua wheeler died thursday. secretary carter described the battle that involved u.s. troops transporting kurdish troops to the scene. he said the plan was not for american troops to enter the prison there but when a firefight broke out wheeler responded helping that mission to succeed. >> the man charged with a road rage shooting that killed a 4-year-old new mexico girl had been arrested for violent crimes in the past. but he was never prosecuted. tony torres was arrested of aggravated battery and a violent incident involving a gun in two felony cases since 2010. each time those cases were dropped. albuquerque officials are calling on state law mmakers to enact reforms after liljay

garcia here was killed and an officer was shot in the very same week. a new autism study suggests some children are being misdiagnosed. researchers found about 9% of children died with autism, eventually had that diagnosis changed. researchers believe specialists are mistaking nonlanguage and developmental delays you a autism. many who were misdiagnosed told they have attention deficit hyper disorder which is known as adhd. happening today, the walk to end hiv in downtown d.c., folks are already there warming up getting ready. >> that's right. the 5k set to get rolling in about 30 minutes. let's hear now from a few of the fund raisers for the event there. joining us this morning, dave kirkland and lauren roberts. good to see you. >> good morning. how are you? >> good morning. >> you're all dressed up in your superhero outfits, and that's one of the themes of the walk this year, right?

>> that's exactly right. so i'm superman today. >> that's great. what are you so passionate -- why are you so passionate about this cause? tell us about it? >> why don't you go first. >> thank you. i'm here and i've worked this for the past couple of years to help raise funds for the cause because i've lost family and friends, and the fact that in the district the rate of infection is almost at epidemic proportions. and so, you know, it's something we've been living with for 30 years and we're doing much better, but there's so much that need to be done. and the aids health care foundation do so much and provide such veital services that, you know, raising the money and having people who are so generous from dave's parrish, from my organization, kpmg here

in washington, people just have been extremely generous because it is a worthy cause. >> dave, we were looking for a ministry that we could connect with over in d.c., so we found whitman walker, and we see that they help so many people and they offer a loving smile and a healing touch. and you can't beat that. so we're very appreciative of the work of whitman walker clinic, how they help so many people in the area. >> and you are truly wearing capes and you are superheroes in the community leading the charge here. the big question is, where is all the money you're helping raise going? how is it benefiting everyone in this area? >> well, it's actually serving besides whitman walker health and the aids health care foundation, it's serving funding a number of other organizations within the metropolitan washington area.

and it's helping provide vital services, health care regardless of financial need or supplementing that need, medicine, legal services, social servi services. assistance with housing. a whole plethora of services that are vital to those who are infected with hiv or aids and those who help them. it's going to such crucial needs that for dave and ourselves and all the other people who have been raising funds and giving we know the good work that it's doing. >> these are people that can't get health care and so they really offer a nice touch to help others that are in need. >> all right. thank you so much. go ahead. >> what's also wonderful with these organizations particularly

outdoor activities. i love fall. it's so great. it's rather chilly but is invigorating and starting off for the walk to end hiv. right now they're in washington. the it temperature is at 48 at reagan national and right downtown as well. it's near 50 across parts of northern virginia and into the shenandoah valley where it's in the low 50s there. there's sunshine breaking out in the shenandoah out in the mountains. there's also sun east of washington where temperatures are now in the mid to upper 40s. on the bay and shore, mid-40s there right now. and for the walk to end hiv for the forecast for the rest of the morning, morning clouds breaking up. a little sun should be breaking out around 10:00, 11:00. temperatures still in the 50s but ought to be near 60 degrees by late morning and then by noontime as the walk is ending. temperatures should be in the low 60s and increasing sunshine. so a terrific day there. you can see that clear sky off

to the east, a live view from our tower camera and there's that deck of clouds that's right over the metro area from east to west. hitting mid to upper 60s by mid to late afternoon. post your pictures. i did this one last thursday biking the c&o canal near mile 65 above harpers ferry. a great day to do that today, too. and look at our autumn color. the weekend foliage is peak color now out in the mountains and parts of the shenandoah valley, areas north and west of washington getting some beautiful color right now and right around the metro area, too, points south and east. we have some individual trees especially the maples. they are beginning to show some nice autumn colors. storm team 4 radar is not showing any rain anywhere in our vicinity, getting a few light showers here now in ohio, into kentucky and tennessee. that's part of a weak front

that's going to be drifting toward us and it'll begin to move in here but not until after midnight tonight. new hour by hour timing coming in showing that the leading edge of those showers may be coming closer to the shenandoah valley around 3:00 in the morning. then as we get toward around dawn, 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 a.m., the light showers move across the district and into maryland and then after that, they break up by late morning and a few sprinkles lingering perhaps around the bay during the rest of the afternoon on sunday. for the marine corps marathon tomorrow, we'll have temperatures quickly jumping into the low 60s after those showers and the mid-60s by the end of the evening hours as we get into tomorrow and into tomorrow evening we'll have that sunshine returning and now let's go live to texas where they've been getting pounded with heavy rain, and now they're bracing for more. mike seidel from the weather channel is joining us live in galveston, texas. what's happening there now?

>> reporter: good morning, tom. we're quiet now in the houston-gallon vveston area. north of here from san antonio to haas continue to dallas, they've had almost 7 inches of lane. i want to show you the pictures about an hour south of dallas-ft. worth and they've measured almost 18 inches of rain since yesterday. that's caused a lot of flash flooding. they had a flash flood emergency. and down 35 to i-35 from waco into austin and san antonio. they could see another three inches of rain. a flash flood watch continues until monday morning for the houston-galveston-corpus kr houston-galveston-corpus christi areas. rain from the north and west

inspiring story. >> reporter: shari segal is a survivor, now devoted to exercise as part of her recovery from breast cancer. >> it makes me feel like i am doing something that makes my body better. >> reporter: shari was diagnosed in january of 2014. >> the day i got the phone call, i'll never forget having a little piece of scrap paper and writing on that scrap paper, cancer. >> reporter: she was just 41. it was her second routine mammogram. >> knowing what that feels like as a mother, as a wife, as a child, was probably the worst day of my life. >> reporter: shari tested positive for the brca gene and had three surgeries in six months, a double mastectomy, her ovaries removed and then breast reconstruction. >> it is painful.

i was limited, one, for how much i was able to push or pull or lift. >> reporter: after that surgery shari, a physical therapist, ached to start training at the b barre method in north potomac once again with this team of women as she worked her way back into her workout. >> i was able to modify thanks to the amazing instructors here. >> reporter: she says she remembers being fearful and weak, but those feelings started to dissolve with each movement. >> full range curl. >> reporter: after her first hour-long class, shari felt like she was back and she broke down. >> i had fought for it and i had won and i was going to finish this class and i was feeling so great, and then i cried like a baby and it was the most beautiful -- it was a beautiful cry for me and it felt great. >> reporter: while the surrounding mirrors may be intimidating to some, shari says seeing her body strengthen and morph over the months has been therapeutic. >> i'm in awe of shari. >> reporter: this is a crew of
