gets on a metro train with a loaded gun. new tonight hear from the metro employee who took him down. only on news4, the mysterious condition that nearly caused a local teacher to choke to death in front of her students. the doctors who saved her life. first tonight, new answers about the tragic discovery along the bw parkway in laurel. >> police just identified the man they found in this car, overturned in the water. we now know he had been missing for more than a week. he is 26-year-old marcus lee freeman. he was discovered dead in his car near route 198. jackie benson live with the latest in laurel tonight. >> reporter: we have learned that marcus freeman worked at maryland live casino, that he is considered an extremely reliable young man, and that it was very out of character for him to just disappear. his family's online pleas for help indicate marcus freeman left his laurel home october 15th to run up to the nearby exxon station.

a missing flier showed his silver colored toyota camry. 11 agonizing days later, his family now has an answer. the worst answer to the question where is he. around 2:00 this afternoon, workers mowing the grass along bw parkway at the ramp to route 198 found a car overturned in waist-deep water and called 911. >> two officers, one lieutenant from the united states park police and an officer from the fish and life wild service responded. they ran down the embankment and made entry into the vehicle where they found an adult male subject. he was later pronounced dead by anne arundel medical emergency personnel. >> reporter: the officers smashed in the window in a desperate attempt to get to freeman, but it was too late. the ravine is deep and cannot be seen from the parkway or 198, which is called laurel fort immediate road at this point because of the heavy brush and large trees surrounding it. investigators spent hours examining tire tracks and other evidence to try to determine exactly how and why freeman's car left the road.

i spoke by phone to one of marcus freeman's family members tonight. and he said it's understandable that they are just too devastated to speak by this point. live in laurel, jackie bensen, news4. here at the live desk we have details on a video being shared all over social media. now some people see a teenaged girl being assaulted while others say you need to know what led up to this. hands on your back. >> this spring valley high school in south carolina. the man pulling the girl out of class is a resource officer. the district has band him from working in any schools while this is being investigated. the student was disrupting class. the teacher asked her to leave. she wouldn't. that's when she called the officer in to help.

the girl was arrested and charged with disturbing school. she was released to her parent. the sheriff is out of town but has seen this video. >> he was very disturbed by what he saw. as a matter of fact, he had questions. he had questions just like everybody else does. and he wants answers to those questions. >> the video is so shocking, even presidential contenders are weighing in on it. just a few hours ago, former maryland governor martin o'malley called it ugly, and said as a father he would go ballistic if someone did that to his daughter. >> chris lawrence, thank you. the remnants of hurricane patricia are creating a nasty situation along parts of the gulf coast. from eastern louisiana into mississippi and alabama, this is what people had to deal with today. floodwaters overtaking roadways. some had to contend with knee-deep water in their neighborhood. doug is in storm center 4 right i know. as the storm is headed our way, how it is going to affect us, doug? >> it's going bring us a chance

of heavy rain too. starting tomorrow night into the day on wednesday. some of the rain will be heavy at times. i'm not too worried about flooding in our area, even though we could see 1 to 2 inches of rain. satellite radar showing what is happening. we've got some clearing skies and very cold conditions. but just down to the south, this is where the storm. you can see the center of circulation rotating right around new orleans where thousands were without power earlier. a lot of moisture coming off the gulf of mexico and the atlantic ocean, all coming across our region. tomorrow morning you will not need the umbrella. but take it with you. 40 degrees. very cool to start off at 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. during the afternoon, though, rather breezy. still cool. temperatures around 58. will start to need that umbrella. i'll be back in a couple of minutes. who has the best chance to see the heaviest rain coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, thank you, doug. new at 11:00, a virginia state delegate is asking the commonwealth transportation board to delay a vote on adding tolls to i-66. that could cost you up to 17 bucks round trip. the board has a preliminary vote

set for a meeting in virginia beach tomorrow. delegate bob marshall, who represents parts of prince william county and manassas park says the vote should be held at a meeting where northern virginia resident can be present. marshall also says he has found little public support for this plan among his constituents. the proposal includes variable toll lanes inside the beltway. and tonight v dot says it will reconsider a possible commuter relocation. the prince william county board of supervisors says it did not support the proposed location near 66 and route 15 in haymarket outside the beltway. some had concerns the lot could destroy a cattle farm known as the cedars farm. v-dot wants a lot in that general area, and says it will look into other possibilities. doreen? a metro takedown inside a moving train stops a robbery suspect with a loaded gun in his pocket. and tonight two metro employees are the ones being praised for

stopping him. news4's shomari stone is live at the gallery playstation where this all came to an end over the weekend. shomari? >> reporter: well, tonight the metro station manager is being called a hero here. now she and another metro employee put their lives in danger to protect passengers. the suspect was arrested behind me at the gallery place chinatown station. >> i'm feeling pretty good right now. >> she has a right to feel good. the newly released surveillance video shows a robbery suspect armed with a loaded handgun on the plane. pamela courageously helped to super bowl d subdue him. >> what i would have wanted somebody to do for me if i was in that situation. >> reporter: the video from inside the anacostia station shows rondez tibbs on the platform in the lower right corner of your screen. saturday, four income the afternoon. police say he flashes the gun, demands cash, and a man hands over $40. once on board the train, police say tibbs gets in an argument

with two other passengers. that's when pamela and the other metro employee steps in. >> we were talking to him to find out what he had. he said he had a cell phone a couple of times. and then he admitted he did have a gun. >> reporter: the train arrives at the navy yard station. now i know it's tough to see, but if you look in the window in the middle part of the train, the other employee is pinning tibbs to the ground. >> he was trying. he was trying to get away. so we figured, well, we better hold on to him. >> reporter: pamela calls metro transit police, and some passengers get off the train. >> we continue to hold the guy until we got in contact. >> reporter: take a look at police running up to the train at gallery place to make the arrest. they allegedly found the gun. this photo shows tibbs in handcuffs. tonight metro transit police chief ron pavlik applauds his employees and gave pamela a certificate of valor. >> the effort speaks volumes who they are, about the metro organization. >> reporter: now the other employee didn't want to talk on

camera. tibbs is charged with armed robbery and carrying a gun without a license. live in northwest d.c., i'm shomari stone, news4. metro is close to picking a new leader. multiple sources tell news4 transportation reporter it's down to two finalists, and the announcement could be days away. the transit agency has been without a permanent gm for nearly a year now. today the federal transit administration informed metro that it's officially taking over safety oversight. the feds will conduct on-the-ground investigations, lead accident investigations, and make sure hundreds of outstanding corrective actions are being implemented. new at 11:00, d.c. police say they have arrested several people responsible for a series of robberies. last week there were six robberies in an hour near the navy yard and on capitol hill. police say small groups of three to five people are committing multiple robberies a night. chief cathy lanier says robberies are one of the biggest challenges the district is

facing right now, but they have made arrests in two major cases in the last four days. a woman died after collapsing at the lincoln memorial earlier today. u.s. park police tell us the 50-year-old woman suffered some kind of medical emergency, fell down, and hit her head. officers performed cpr, but the woman died at the hospital. her name has not been released. a driver accused of hitting a man three times with his car is now charged with attempted murder. police say 25-year-old brian jackson followed man who he saw with his ex-girlfriend on sunday. the man got out of his car to find out why he was being followed when police say jackson rammed him, backed over him, and then hit him a third time. despite all of that, the victim is expected to recover. new at 11:00, there is now one less thing you can pack on a flight. those e-cigarettes. the department of transportation is banning cigarette alternatives and other battery operated smoking devices from checked baggage. out of a fear of in-flight

fires. since 2009, there have been at least 26 cases of e-cigarettes exploding, some of which happened in luggage. e-cigarettes will still be allowed on carry-ones, but passengers won't be able to charge the devices mid flight. the rules go into effect within the next two weeks. a controversial study linking processed meat to cancer. and it's a lot more complicated than the headline. tonight what doctors say this means for you. local teacher's medical mystery solved. how her own body almost caused her to choke to death while she was at work. >> i thought i'm going to die in the school cafeteria in front of my 9 and 10-year-old students. plus, a national retailer announcing tonight it's closing on black friday. on black friday. what it wants you to do besides the washington post endorses democrat jeremy mcpike for state senate. applauding mcpike's "ideas about getting traffic moving."

moderation. it's complete protein that is concentrate, all the amino acids, b-12 and iron. these are important. >> it will has increased fat which increases the risk for heart disease. a maryland music teacher who almost choked to death in front of her young students. marilyn beeson told us just taking a sip of a drink could trigger it, choking so bad her throat would close. she ignored it for a while, hoping it would go away until it was almost too late. ♪ the sweet sounds of these students playing music is a little sweeter for marilyn beesonthese days. that's because last spring, the students watched her nearly choke to death. >> when it happens in the school setting, it was extremely traumatic because i thought i'm going to die in the school cafeteria in front of my 9 and 10-year-old students. >> reporter: marilyn says these

episodes of choking so severe that her throat would close up have been happening for the last few years. but she never saw a doctor about it. >> and it's one of those things i kept putting off and putting off until it happened again. in a more severe circumstance. >> reporter: after that incident at calvert elementary school, she was taken to the emergency room at the local hospital where doctors discovered the problem. one of her arteries was pushing up against her esophagus, and that's what was causing the trouble swallowing. >> it's one of the common anomalies that probably happens in 1 to 2% of all people. but very few are symptomatic. >> reporter: marilyn was transferred to medstar washington hospital center for surgery. and that's when she met vascular surgeons. they say they had never seen a case quite like hers before. >> you don't see a lot of these cases. you know, surgeons, when you have a chance to do something new, something original, it's exciting. >> reporter: after studying her scans, the doctors figured out a way to reroute that artery and

take the pressure off of her esophagus. it took two surgicallies and three months of recovery. but marilyn came back to school this fall. >> everybody on your open d, please. >> reporter: and was even joined by her doctors who shared information about her condition with her students. >> i come back and reassure the kids that everything is going to be fine. their teacher is going to be fine. >> i would like to do anything i can to give become to all these people that helped me. i knew that my students would love seeing the physicians. and bringing some awareness to other people about choking issues. >> a little help lesson in that music class. marilyn is doing so much better now, and her doctors say those two surgeries completely resolved the problem that was causing her to choke. a reminder to all of us. don't postpone getting medical attention when you suspect a problem. while other retailers open earlier and earlier every year

it seems for black friday bargains, rei is shaking things up a bit by announcing it will be closed the day after thanksgiving. and it has a message for you too. rei says it wants to encourage you to get outdoors instead of shopping for hours in the malls. the company is launching a social media campaign with tth the #opt outside. and there is a website you can find things to do. i'm guessing shop online with your cell phone while you hike around. >> we're trying to figure out the catch. they're going to be open all day thanksgiving, something like that. so cooler, wetter weather ahead. >> it's not looking too good the next couple days. but tuesday and a wed, beginning to have bad weather, tuesday or wednesday. that's for sure. we do have some rain moving in most of the day tomorrow will be on the dry side. but yet the rain will move in eventually. right now we're on the cool side. not too cool at the airport. 50 degrees. but if you walk outside, outside

of the beltway, you can really feel it. it is really cool with the calm winds and mostly clear skies. if you look at the number, already 37 in gaithersburg. 36 in frederick. 36 towards culpeper. temperatures will cool a little bit more this evening. but then we'll start to see the clouds move back in and temperatures may actually rise by early tomorrow morning. nothing on the radar right now. you can see the clouds. watch how they kind of disappear here. and watch them back towards the west, making their way our way. that's what is going to help to provide a little bit of warmth in the atmosphere a little later. here is the storm. you can really see the spin in the atmosphere. this is the remnants of hurricane patricia. it came onshore in parts of mexico as a category 5 storm. thank goodness it did not hit a very highly populated area. we only had a few big out of this storm. but it's created more problems in the portions of the gulf than it did in mexico. it's flooding down towards louisiana, texas, alabama, florida, all seeing flooding. and many parts of that rain will come up towards our area during the day tomorrow. so let's take you through it

hour by hour here on future weather. here we are at noon tomorrow. notice most of the area is dry. we're dealing with the clouds, but we're dry. notice at 4:00, though. starting to see the rain encroach upon the d.c. metro area. so i do think the evening rush could be a little wet. especially back towards the west. 66 towards front royal. it will be rainy back here around the 4:00 hour towards fredericksburg as well. and then by 10:00, 11:00, it's about everybody getting some of that rain, and that rain will be heavy at times overnight, into early wednesday morning. wednesday is going to be a really wet day. but, again, notice southern maryland. not seeing as much rain as areas to the west. and i do think areas to the west 1 to 2 inches of rain. areas in maryland a half inch to an inch. and depending on any enhanced storms maybe more rain. even around 5:00 in the afternoon on wednesday, still going to be dealing with the rain. so rainfall intensity, well, you know it's going to be rather stormy. it's going to be a big umbrella day on wednesday. take the small umbrella tomorrow. but the big umbrella on
