franconia and dorsett last night. that pedestrian died. we're working to get a description of the suspect's car. today a judge will sentence a prince george's county father for causing a crash that killed his son. he could spend the next decade in prison. he was high on pcp when he crashed his car in cottage city with his 4-year-old son inside. his son was not fastened in and ejected. john fauerby and lynn rosenbusch were hit and killed while on their tandem bike. he was a f. >> she was a cogovernment worke. prince george's police say a

man was assaulted. they found him after 7:00 last night. he may not survive. he was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. police have not released his name. 6:04. this morning prince william county police are trying to figure out how a man died on a doorstep achlt neighbor walking his dog discovered the body on woodbridge yesterday morning. police would not say how he had died but only that he had trauma to his body. police are calling this a homicide investigation. the latest now on the trial of suspected serial killer charles severance. he is accused in the murders of ruth an logano and three others. they won't reach a verdict until midweek. that's because court is closed tomorrow for election day. a 1-year-old boy is dead

after a police chase ended in a car crash. a mother was pushing him in a stroller when a car was trying to get away from the police and pushed it into another. this chase started after a driver hit a police cruiser and kept going. neighbors say inadequate lighting brings crime to the neighborhood. tonight you can bring any kind of light to art enables. the lights will turn on. it's election day tomorrow. a grude of activists will be in at 4:00. they'll expect to cast their vote. and terry mcauliffe led get out the vote rallies.

6:15. and today a man charged in a deadly hit-and-run outside a hospital. he ran down a woman who worked at the hospital. she was hit in the crosswalk. "news4" covered the stoiv. the district installed pedestrian flashing crossing sign. a traffic light should be in place by december. the house of a well known d.c. family died just hit the market. it's still boarded up nearly six months after the fire there.

sa voss savopoulos, his wife amy, their son philip and their housekeeper were all killed inside the house. the home is listed for just over $3 million. 6:16. police need your help to find a family of five that haven't been seen in over a week. the frederick county chaff's office opened a missing case. they called them after the father did not show up to work. the police went to his home on braveheart drive and found the home empty and one of the cars missing. all cell phones were turned off. investigators say right now they do not suspect foul play. the supreme court has several cases to hear. they could have a big impact on how local court cases are tried in our area. first up is a case where prosecutor

prosecutors used racial slurs in a trial. and today we'll find out what president obama will do to reform the criminal justice system. the president will be in newark, new jersey, to meet with senator cory booker and baraka. they'll talk about the changes prisoners face when rejoining society. you may remember him as an accomplished senator or for his many roles in tv and film. at 6'6" and a booming voice, tennessee's fred thompson was hard to miss. he died sunday from lymphoma at his home in nashville. a statement from his family said he was the same man on the floor in the senate t meesh studio, or in town square. thompson was 73 years old. 6:16 right now. something to think about when you choose chipotle. 40 chains are closed because of a e. coli issue.

an uber driver is attacked and it's caught on camera. he threw punches from the back seat. the driver refused to put on his seatbelt or give clear directions. the driver said that was likely his last uber trip. >> i don't feel safe driver for uber anymore. the passengers have gone down. i don't feel safe. a scary thought. you don't have to be swimming to be bitten by a shark. how about that. one woman was waiting in a shark when a shark attacked her. she was able to call for help and she should be oklahoma. she's recovering from a seven-inch gash on the back of her lead.

oe ocean officials say they hadn't heard anything. in michigan, a home exploded. this is in a suburb of detroit. one person was burned. but it's not clear how seriously right now. a it is 6:24. we're working to learn how several people are doing after a d.c. fire truck ran into a car. take a look at the scene here. the accident happened as the truck was responding on ivanhoe street southwest saturday night. four firefighters in the rig and several others inside the car were hurt. at the house fire, d.c. fire said one person had to be rescued. another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. it's not clear what cause thad fire. all right. hundreds of you did the right thing and opted for a sober ride on halloween. sober ride provided 400 rides. that's twice the number last year. that i work with cab companies

and eastbound 50. one lane blocked. aaron? >> thank you. 6:31. we turn to decision 2016. possible changes after complaints about last week's presidential gop debate. nbc's tracie potts has more on last night's exclusive meeting in alexandria. tracie, what is this all about? >> most of the campaign representatives were here. they've got a long list of demands. they've got attorneys working with them. they've shut the parties out of the meeting. they're hoping all of the campaigns are going to sign onto. they want the networks to answer the questions up front. who are the moderators, what's the format, long is the debate going to be. some are pushing for longer groups of candidates on stage at a time, equal time for candidates. approval of the graphics. for example, some point out that jeb bush, his graphic didn't show he's been governor of florida. they're pushing for what they call more substantive questions.

qustions that stay on the top okay f that particular debate and not easy questions as they point out. other demands. they're asking for candidates to get time to answer the questions. no yes/no answers. they want the mikes shut off for sure during the break, as, and they want no shots with the candidates with notes. that's a long list. they, too, were concerned about the last one and they'll look for changes. now the latest on the new speaker of the house. relative paul ryan says he will not consider a comprehensive own haul of the immigration system while president obama is in office. >> the president has proon himself untrustworthy on this issue because he tried to e unilaterally rewrite the law himself.

>> it removes the clash who gave former speaker john boehner a hard time. he told moderator chuck todd he would be open to issues like border enforcement and security. 6:33. the episcopal church has a new leader. michael curry was installed at the first black leader of the church. curry's installation comes as the episcopal church comes with fewer membership and fewer practicing episcopalians. a teenager is in court. 17-year-old danny centeno miranda was shot and killed while walking to a bus stop in september. the 17-year-old is not being named because he's under age. they will seek to try him as an adult. some of you have your

relationship with police on the top of your mind with freddie gray's death in baltimore this month. a new poll says white people and black people in maryland have deeply different views about police. the poll put out by the university of maryland and "washington post" says most-month-olders, 62%, believe there is a racial bias in the state's criminal justice system. 60% of them say violent encounters with police start with people disrespecting officers. that is compared to just 19% of black people. 68% of black people say the problem starts with officers treating law abiding people like suspects instead. the majority of people in the poll approved of the decision to charge six officers in freddie gray's case. 6:34, your time right now. delays are over after a big slowdown on the green line last night. some of you may be owondering what happened there. metro says a man wandered onto the tracks.

it's not clear whierks but metro said he made it off the tracks just fine. a quick alert now that may affect your commute this week. starting today, the national parks service will close 15th street northwest between constitution avenue and madison drive and madison drive between 14th and 15th street. the closures will happen overnight between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. they last through saturday morning. ing. >> a new study out this morning says self-driving cars have a higher accident rate. maybe we saw this coming. the test cars are involved in crashes at five times more than conventional cars here. researchers say they also have four times the injury rate but all accident injuries reported involving self-driving cars have been minor. new this morning, the digital divide between low and higher income faklys is shrinking quickly. that is according to a new study. researchers looked at the yaus of technology among young

in silver spring. starting this week crews are installed new smart meters that take credit cards. molette green live in silver spring with when they'll be up and running. molett molette, good morning. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. just about an hour ago a worker came by to empty out the change in this change-only meter. folks are looking for more convenience nowadays and they don't want these change only meters anymore. this week the change is coming inside this display portion of the old meters to expand your payment options so you will be able to pay by credit card. you will be able to pay on your cell phone and you'll be able to use your coins in the meters and montgomery county department of transportation says it's going taken two weeks to be able to make the changeover here in silver spring. this is already happening in bethesda. they did it already there and with great success to many

name, have they said do they have any suspects. this morning prince william county is ploodow county police are trying to figure out how a man died. police wouldn't say how the man died, only that he had trauma to the man's body. police are calling this a homicide investigation. a tragic story now out of baltimore. a 1-year-old boy is dead after a police chase ended in a car crash. the child's mother was pushing him in a stroller when a car trying to get away from police crashed into another car and then pushed it into the baby and his mother. the driver involved in this case is in the hospital and could face charges. the chase started after the car hit a police cruiser and kept going. i'm angie goff at the live desk. three earthquakes confirmed. this is about 50 miles north of the city of phoenix. all three, we're told, roughly in the same area. it happened overnight.
