taking a look now at our top story. d.c. police investigating two

homicides this morning. the latest here on 8th street and northwest. a man was shot and killed. no suspect information yet and police don't know what led to the shooting. investigators from five countries say that no technical failure was recorded in either of the downed russian plane's black boxes. isis conversations were intercepted talking about how they brought down the plane. and police are looking for this man who attacked a metro bus driver. investigators say he simply did not feel like paying hisare and the fight began when he was asked about it. it happened friday morning. the suspect broke the driver's glasses and gave him a black eye. well, good morning on this saturday. >> we have officially started cooling down here around the weekend. we're going to check in with tom. first, we want to tell you about a touching story coming up. >> that's right. we have a 6-year-old, he was a

high school senior for a day. a dream come true for his mother who is battling cancer. she wanted to see him play in his senior game. we're going to tell you how the whole community made it happen in just a bit. driver fatigue could have been the cause of this terrible crash in arkansas. the ntsb is investigating after six people were killed. other issues could get their attention. the bus ferrying migrant farm workers from michigan to texas ran off a highway ejecting passengers onto the interstate. >> this weekend, a family is renewing their effort to find the man who killed their father and took off. zahoor khan died in a hit-and-run crash last sunday. >> reporter: 69-year-old zahoor came to the u.s. from pakistan a

lifetime ago. >> he loved his family, he loved his faith. >> reporter: no one knows exactly why mr. khan was crossing the busy road about 10:45 sunday night. his family thinks he might have walked to the mcdonald's there. he was halfway across the road when he was struck by what witnesses describe was a white vehicle similar to these images. the vehicle kept going. the victim's son is a popular d.c. area radio dejay. he says his dad took tremendous pride in the educational accomplishments of his children. >> it was one of those things, those were big deals to him. he was beaming at those things. he was beaming at our personal accomplishments. >> reporter: police will return to the road sunday evening around the same time to hand out these flyers and to look for information that could lead to

the person responsible. >> whoever did this, you know, it's got to be weighing on your conscience. do the right thing. if anybody driving on the road knows a bit of the license plate or anything, contact the authorities. >> now, tomorrow marks a week since khan's death. fairfax county police are asking anyone with more information to give them a call. developing in texas, a stage judge is expected to recover from being shot in her own driveway. police say julie kocurek was taken to a hospital early this morning. she's now stable and showing improvement. police are working to find a suspect there. there's no indication that the shooting was related to her work as a judge. the so-called forever loyal bandit strikes again. police say it is the suspect's fifth bank robbery since 2014. here are the new surveillance pictures. you can see he is not wearing

fairfax county into prince william. right now, a temporary reprieve. temperatures are mild. we're hovering in the low and mid-60s. reagan national, 66 right now. mid and upper 60s around the bay. those 50s will be arriving later this afternoon. hour-by-hour timing on this rain coming in just a few minutes. >> president obama is defending a decision to rejengt the keystone pipeline. the president says the pipeline would not have lowered gas prices or made the united states less dependent on foreign oil. meanwhile, environmentalists cheered that decision while republicans were quick to attack saying that the project would have created more jobs. the president is getting ready for a global meeting on climate change in paris. >> this morning, we are learning the supreme court will take up a new challenge to the president's health care law. it will consider the nation's religiously affiliated schools

this morning, there's a new effort to protect you from predatory tow companies. the house passed a transportation bill that closes a loophole. it was allowing them to overcharge and aggressively look for cars to tow. it prevents towing companies from using spotters and requires business owners to preapprove every tow from their lot. the bill now heads to the senate. cross town rivals came together to accomplish something pretty incredible this week. senior girls from loudon valley high took on each other for a powder puff football fundraiser

>> a housing dispute at howard university is still one of the top trending topics on twitter. you have probably seen that hash tag "homeless at howard." a student says he's forced to live on the street. he told news4 he snuck students there an emergency exit door at his dorm. the next day he received a notice saying that his housing was terminated until july of 2016. jawanza says he recognizes what he did wrong, but this is a first offense. >> everybody else before me

committed this infraction either gotten off with a warning or a relocation to another dorm. i'm from miami. i don't have family in the dmv area. where am i going to go? they had nothing to say. >> howard university responded saying in part university policies are enforced to help ensure the safety and security of every one on our campus. any violation is taken seriously, investigated, and appropriate action is taken to mitigate risk. schools across virginia are dividing up $6 million in state funding to impruf security. the money will be used for new video surveillance, metal detectors, classroom locks and electronic access controls. they are bringing equipment to many schools. can you build a classroom in one day? this morning, some folks in prince georges county will do just that. more than 100 volunteers will

60. a national program to feed needy families is now operating in fairfax program thanks to a new program at george mason university. >> reporter: extra food from the dining halls at george mason university will no longer go to waste. thanks to a student-led effort, the campus kitchen project is turning yesterday's leftovers into today's lunch for several fairfax county shelters. right now, students pack and deliver about 50 meals a week. the goal is to at least double that. >> i did culinary arts in high school. and i wanted to get back into the kitchen of some sort. it was also a fun way to help those in need. >> reporter: sedexo is the food services company behind the program. >> the nice thing about this program, it's actually a complete meal. it comes from a dining program. we proud ourselves here at mason on a great meal program.
