right now on storm team 4 radar, most of the steady rain has exited the metro area, passing to the north. scattered sprinkled showing up on storm team 4 radar, virginia, west virginia and maryland. some of this light rain now northern shenandoah valley, that's heading up to the panhandle of west virginia. light showers here in northern loudoun county, northern montgomery, southern montgomery and this area in the northern prince george's, that's where we're getting a batch of moderate rain. that will be tracking away from the metro area. we're not done with the rain yet. we may get more later today what to wear for the rest of the afternoon? we'll have the umbrella handy. wear a warm coat. it will be chilly. long pants. we'll have this off and on rain. a new hour by hour timing for when the rain ends and when we may see sun again coming up. breaking news from the live

desk. police in takoma park are investigating what they are calling a suspicious death. this is in the 7500 block of new hampshire avenue. they are not telling us much more at this point. new 4's pat collins is there now trying to get more information. we'll update you as soon as we get that information. back to you. >> thanks. this just in, close call for virginia state police trooper after a crash that appears to be the result of speeding and wet roads. around 7:30 this morning senior trooper a.d. brown stopped a driver along westbound i-66 near the prince william county parkway. that's when another car lost control as the driver tried to slow down and slammed into the trooper's vehicle. that driver of centreville is charged with reckless driving. trooper brown is okay. right now colts linebacker and former maryland football player dequel jackson is in

court. d.c. police say he punched a pizza delivery driver in the face over a parking spot. in court this morning derrick ward learned jackson hit the driver so hard it broke his cheekbone. one person is dead after a car fire in southwest washington. the car crashed into a large tree and caught fire just before midnight last night on raoul wallenberg place. the car was heading southbound. police have not released information on the victim. the body was found dead inside the car. >> right now on capitol hill, a huge defense bill is poised to pass the senate it would fund more than $600 billion in defense policy and spending. president obama vetoed a similar bill two weeks ago. that was before he agreed with the house on the budget. he could veto it again over provisions to prevent the goff front moving guantanamo bay detainees to the u.s. the senate is voting on that bill today. developing this morning, the

president's immigration plan faced a set back. an appeals court ruled against the plan. this upholds a lower court injunction brought by 26 states. by executive order the plan provide 5 million undocumented workers with work permits and no deportation. the ruling does not affect the president's policy of protecting the children of undocumented immigrants from deportation. now the gop candidates are preparing for tonight's debate. the two-hour forum will be held in milwaukee. eight candidates will participate in the main event tonight at 9:00. four other contenders will be in a so-called undercard debate at 7:00, chris christie, mike huckabee, bobby jindal and rick santorum. some people think the undercard forum could be a great opportunity for christie if he can dominate the conversation

and get a lot of time in front of the camera. he could have a break-out performance. at the capital now, presidential candidate bernie sanders is joining dozens of fast food workers demanding higher wages. tens of thousands of workers across the country walked off their jobs today. they're demanding a living wage of $15 an hour. they also want to be represented by a union. right now some students at george washington university are trying to get the school to revoke bill cosby's honorary degree. the student association passed the bill cosby honorary degree revocation. cosby received an honorary degree from gw in 1997. last month the university announced it would not revoke the degree because honorary degrees are based upon what the university knew about the

the university of missouri is looking for a new president this morning. and the football team is back on the field today. after two months of anger and unrest students celebrated as tim wolfe stepped down yesterday. many mizzou players and students were upset with the way he handled racially charged protests. another problem for "rolling stone" magazine, after an article about a gang rape at the university of virginia. the magazine faces an additional

$25 million lawsuit over the unfounded article. the fraternity it names is behind the new lawsuit. "rolling stone" magazine already faces individual suits from members of the fraternity. and initial test results for e. coli have come back negative for chipotle restaurants. the first round of testing looked at food samples from washington and oregon state. 27 cases have been linked to that outbreak. state officials say more than 40 restaurants could reopen in a few days if they meet certain requirements. tv history meets the smithsonian. the hugely popular and controversial show that's about to become part of washington

continues. we had several of those earlier this morning. pavement is still all wet, even though we're not getting steady rain in the metro area. enough drizzle and sprinkles to make the pavement wet. moderate showers along the icc in montgomery county over to 95. further to the north, up 270, frederick, some light rain. this area on the darker green north of leesburg, panhandle of west virginia, winchester, getting some light rain, all tracking off to the north and east. south and west we are getting dry air pushing in. this is the hour by hour timing this is 3:00 this afternoon. we'll still have light rain northern virginia, the metro area, some moderate showers to our north by 5:00 p.m. it will be wet for the afternoon commute. by 6:00, 7:00 p.m. it will taper off. after that, the rain should be ending and clearing out late tonight. back to you. >> thank you, tom. >> today we expect to learn more about plans to give you more

avenue here in takoma park. joining me now, chief allen goldberg with the takoma park police department. chief, tell me what you have here. >> at 7:30 this morning, approximately 7:30, officers responded to a call for one down. when they arrived they found a female victim deceased. suffering from apparent trauma. and we're investigating it as a homicide. >> how old does she appear to be? >> it's hard to tell at this point. probably around middle age, maybe. >> she was familiar to some people in the area? >> we think she was. >> so the investigation is just getting started? >> it's just getting started. the investigators are still just in the initial stages of the investigation. >> chief allen goldberg with the takoma park police. again, 7:30 this morning over

by an suv. officer matt stacy was standing in the road trying to stop a high speed chase. he pulls out a gun as the suv is speeding towards him. the officer barely escapes getting hit. then officer casey gets up shg, tases the woman and goes through the run roof to get her. right now building inspectors are testing the soil as they try to solve a mystery. residents at the carlton east apartments felt their building shake over the weekend. walls cracked. it will be a week before they can go back in. montgomery county will decide whether to ditch final exams for high school students. there is a proposal to phase out end of semester exams. if approved the two-hour long

exams would be replaced with shorter assessments like unit tests and projects. it would start in the 2016/2017 school year. some parents are not happy with a proposed redistricting plan. parents came armed with signs and voiced frustrations on the plan. they want to move students from gathersburg to other schools. there will be another public meeting on this on thursday. right now it is cool, damp, we're getting drizzle in the metro area. the storm team 4 radar showing bigger rain drops. most of which are to our north. we have scattered drizzle in virginia, maryland, that steadier rain we had earlier is tracking further to the north. it's up in howard county. off to the west this patch of

three plans are being looked at to improve the busiest commuter rail line in the country. the federal railroad administration wants to update the 450-mile northeast corridor between now and 2040. the rail has regular delays on amtrak and other lines because it's old and crowded tracks. one plan includes adding a high speed rail system between d.c. and boston and new lines from connecticut to long island and rhode island. once a plan is picked, an environmental review will be done next year.

have a list of more than 500,000 comcast e-mail and password combinations. the company found out only a third of that list was real. we should point out that comcast is the parent company of nbc universal. new security steps being taken in the wake of that deadly plane crash in egypt. european, russian and mideastern teams are inspecting security guards and caterers at cairo's international airport. they're also specifically looking at the way agents scan passengers cargo and baggage as they enter the airport and make their way to the planes. several countries have suspended new flights to egypt over concerns that a bomb possibly brought down a russian plane late last month. our department of homeland security is ramping up safety measures. tom costello has a look at the renewed scrutiny here in the u.s. >> reporter: it's a massive security challenge every day. 25,000 domestic flights, 1 million checked bags, 2 million passengers, thousands of airport

workers, restaurant employees, ramp workers, baggage handlers, many of whom have access to secure areas. now renewed focus on how did airport security is and could u.s. aviation be at risk from an insider threat? >> when you give somebody an airport i.d. badge, it's like giving someone the key to your house. you entrusted them to access your house and get past the locks and alarm systems that you have. >> it's already happened. atlanta 2014, police busted a gun smuggling ring, arresting airline baggage handlers. also in atlanta, 1400 security badges missing over two years. in june, news of a 95% veil you're rate when undercover red teams tried to smuggle mock weapons through checkpoints. and in september, gaping holes found in tsa security. >> a universal disappointing performance by the tsa screening checkpoint. >> the new tsa chief insists he's on it and the terror threat
