fox mill road work there. melissa, thank you. we're following developing story, a controversial political action committee supporting d.c. mayor muriel bowser is shutting down. news 4's tom sherwood tweeted the news last night. fresh pac was formed by bowser's closest allies. it has come under withering criticism for raising large amounts of cash for firms and businesses doing business with the city. mayor bowser is on a mission for trade and is not available for comment. today a group of community leaders will announce a new probe into mayor muriel bowser's deals with pepco. she struck two deals in the last month. one revived the epsilon merger allowing it to move forward and the other secured land for d.c. united's future stadium. molette green is live with more on what this group wants to look at. >> reporter: eun, good morning. critics of the merger are questioning the timing of it. later this morning they plan to

crash in high yachtsville. four people died here. late last night investigators named medardo flores of chillam as the driver who ran into a crowd outside a church. hours ago "the washington post" said he was repeatedly cited for driving on a suspended license and pled guilty to a hit-and-run two years ago. he hit a car and then ran into the crowd. an elderly couple and 6-year-old were among those who died. major support for muslims at virginia tech in the face of a threat against them today. take a look, thousands of people held a rally against hate at the school last night. these are photos from twitter. according to the richmond times dispatch the rally was organized in response to hateful graffiti found in a bathroom threatening muslims. those tax plans are the best that we have right now. >> new insight into republican

wreath at the tom of the unknown soldier this morning. it is one of many events taking place across our region in remembrance of veterans day. the president will lay that wreath around 11:00 this morning. at the world war ii memorial in just a few hours another wreath laying ceremony. more than 16 million men and women served during world war ii. a special tribute will be held at the vietnam veterans memorial at 1:00 this afternoon as well. on this veterans day, new numbers in about veteran homelessness. virginia governor terry mcauliffe is talking about a shift in homelessness in his state. they found homes for 14,000 vets this past year. the university's president stepped down but tensions remain high at the university of missouri. the incident on social media that have students on guard this morning. blustery and cold conditions as you look live at national harbor. tom keir vin oierein out in the

developing in missouri right now, police at the university of missouri are now saying there are no threats to the campus. they investigated several on social media overnight. multiple posts threatened black students following the protests at the school over the last several days. now the university alert system and police are saying there is no threat and that students should not spread rumors. right now 106 bikers in texas facing indictments for engaging in organized criminal activity. the indictment is a response to this brawl and shootout at a

welcome back. 6:14. a storm system is moving fast into colorado bringing a triple whammy. rain, wind, snow. this is video from flagstaff, arizona. people are already trudging through several inches of snow. nbc's leanne greg is live in denver with how people are getting ready there. i can see the snow falling around you, leanne. it just doesn't look right.

>> reporter: oh, i know. good morning. huge flakes. it started overnight with a little bit of rain and then for several hours now it has been snowing a fast-moving storm, three to five inches are expected here in denver before it moves out later this morning. up to a foot of snow in the high country, maybe even 20 inches or more areas above tree level. depending where you are in colorado is how you are going to be impacted. what a difference. temperatures pushing 70 degrees. skies were clear. later this afternoon they will be clear once again, not quite as warm, but, still, this big system is moving to the east where later today tornadoes are a threat in the midwest and whiteout conditions in eastern colorado and parts of kansas. so it's some very serious travel issues. eun, that's the latest from denver. the faa and ntsb are on the scene right now of a fatal plane crash in ohio. we're hearing that we're going to get an update after the sun

comes up because investigators saying they need daylight to do their work. there's the right video. the owner of the plane believes nine people were on board when it crashed into a building. right now officials say two people died. no one on the ground was hurt. still too early to tell what caused the plane to go down but we're hearing that weather conditions were not the best. we're going to monitor a news conference coming up later this morning. that's the latest, aaron. >> angie, thank you. 16 after the hour. video from that plane crash, really unbelievable. take a look at this. it was a four unit apartment building and another unit that caught fire. the hawker jet was two miles from its destination. witnesses say it clipped some utility lines and slammed into a small apartment building. >> appeared out of nowhere and just veered on its side and just flew right into those buildings, into the duplexes there. it was just engulfed in flames immediately.

>> oh, my god! >> people inside those buildings, a neighbor was snap chatting, you saw her there, she was talking to a friend when a plane flashed by her window. we'll send you new information from a noon news conference to your phone through the nbc washington app. a 16-year-old is in what police call mental health custody after officers used a stun gun on him. fairfax county police say he was address sie-- aggressive, errat and a nuisance. the conflict began after the student refused to go to class. he locked himself in the bathroom. police say he threatened himself, polic and others before officers decided to use the stun gun. today thousands expected to attend the funeral of a fallen police officer in kentucky. a funeral for officer daniel ellis will be held later this morning. hundreds of officers attended a visitation for ellis yesterday. he was shot last wednesday while searching an apartment for a

robbery suspect. he was a seven year veteran for the police force. 6:18. someone used a sling shot to throw something over the white house fence. the secret service said it happened and one person was arrested. agents swept the area but did not find anything suspicious. the man faces assault charges. new details. it appears the district's legalization of small amounts of marijuana has resulted in fewer marijuana arrests. in fact, arrests are at an historic low right now. as of friday there have only been seven arrests related to possession this year. compare that to last year when there were nearly 900 arrests. almost all of them were before the new marijuana laws took effect. in 2013 that number was more than 1200. the washington city paper broke down those numbers. former president jimmy carter is on the road to recovery. carter says he is responding well to treatment and no new cancer growth has been found. the 91-year-old shared his cancer diagnosis with the nation in august. he said doctors have found tumors on his brain. for now he will continue his treatment. in news for your health at

6:19, talking about flu seasonment waseason. want to pass along the flumist vaccine is available. kids 6 months to 17 years old can get the shot for free. this is in fredericks county, virginia. the health department is holding two clinics in frederick. the dates are november 16th and december 7th. kids who are obese at a young age may already have serious damage to their hearts. researchers in pennsylvania compared 20 obese kids to 20 kids of normal weight. images of the heart showed the larger children had thickening of the heart muscle, a sign that can lead to heart failure and even sudden death. the research shows that obese children as young as eight years old can show signs of heart disease. are you loyal to one grocery store? if you said yes, you could save more money at another, would you switch?

park. his name is 24-year-old jose peres. police say someone slashed his throat. investigators went over every inch of the playground and searched the streets. so far no suspects. 6:32 right now. we will see if there are more ads for this for two huge fantasy sports sites. the attorney general said fan duel and draft kings got cease and desist letters. they promote games of chance, not skill. in other words, illegal gambling. after the order draft kings said it would, quote, vigorously pursue all legal options. fan duel said the attorney general was trying to get press coverage. nbc 4's parent company comcast is an investor in fan duel. the lunchtime favorite is back today. chipotle restaurants across washington state will reopen after a recent e-coli scare. they have not found the source of the e-coli. 40 people got sick earlier this month. hundreds of samples were tested

but no e-coli was found. next year students montgomery county public schools took the day off. they voted to close on september 12th, 2016. it coincides with the islamic holiday eid al-adha. parents and students fought to get the day off saying it was no different than easter, good friday, or yom kippur. students had to take an excused absence to celebrate the holiday. >> we have more equality montgomery county. i hope more counties like baltimore county and other places around the country will take this as a blueprint and move forward. >> teachers will use the day as a professional dare. the board has not decided whether students will have the holiday off in years to come. today we are honoring our nation's veterans for their service and their sacrifice. northwest washington this morning local veterans are serving those who serve their country. news 4's derek ward is live in miriam's kitchen in northwest

with more on what's happening there today. derek, good morning. >> reporter: good morning again. well, you know if you've been following us this morning you can see how much they've picked up here in terms of action and activity. this is all because of veterans day. it's been a tradition here at miriam's kitchen to take care of the city's homeless population, a city that's seen the veterans population decrease significantly. it used to fill 1/4 of the dining room. now they can fit everyone at one table. that's a good thing. this has been going on, as i said, for a couple of years. this has been going on for a couple of hours. any minute now they'll be opening the doors and making sure that everyone is fed. we have a lot of new volunteers who showed up, some who are veterans and some who can offer a unique perspective on what the veterans population is dealing with. this is a continuum of help. it's not just a soup kitchen. don't call it that. there are services here. they help funnel people out of the streets and into actual homes and apartments and

substantial living places. there's a program called veterans now which is sort of a group of local organizations like this to get together. they get together on the ground and they say that they have actually made a dent in that population. still a lot to do but definitely today they can celebrate some successes. we are live in foggy bottom. derrick ward, news 4. >> thank you. a local veteran will be awarded the medal of honor at the white house. he attended walter johnson high school and ran track. he was seriously injured in afghanistan three years ago when he tackled a suicide bomber. he was part of a security team escorting a colonel to a meeting. his instincts and training kicked in as soon as he realized the man was a threat. >> we have to get him away. like get him away as far as we can. talking about eight seconds here. there's no -- it's just -- you just react.
