on the fiery crash scene. a pickup truck burst into flames and slammed into the church van. >> i seen the pastor's side of the van and fire and a lot of fire and seen people in trouble and my instincts told no get out and help. >> reporter: while he was running toward the flames, his wife called 911. >> i think they might have been able to -- my god, it's babies. >> what's going on? >> it's babies, a whole van of kids. my husband helping pull these babies out. >> reporter: michael had to use his pocketknife to pull the kids out. he was shocked to see the baby. >> what's going through your mind? >> i had to pull the baby out and thought the van was going to explode. he gave the baby to his wife and shared his pocketknife to a couple other guys helping out. >> we were passing my

pocketknife to others trying to save these. there were a few already dead. >> reporter: a married couple and 6-year-old died and another person lost his child after emergency surgery. michael wishes he could have saved everyone. >> if you see someone in trouble, if you can assist, help. a prince george's county father is thankful to be with his children following not one but two close calls. first, this house fire and then a car accident. he was rushing home after he got a call that his house caught fire with his daughters inside. he flipped his car, managed to crawl out and got a ride part of the way and ran a half mile home and got to the babysitter safe. >> reporter: what did you think when you heard your house was on fire? >> that i was going to lose my children. i wasn't ready for that.

i was happy they were still alive and i feel so blessed. >> red cross helping out that family tonight. still no word yet what caused the fire. breaking news. a shootout killed one man and injured a baltimore police officer. investigators say officers confronted the suspect who then shot one of the officers in the leg. police returned fire killing the suspect. it's unclear what the suspect was doing before that confrontation. breaking right now, a brush fire torching dozens of acres in simi valley, california, still growing tonight. winds and dry air in the forecast. the fire has burned through 40 acres so far, still not thre threatening any homes or buildings. >> these students at howard university made it clear where they stood on the protest swe sweeping through the university of missouri and other campuses across the country. many of this people -- of the people at this afternoon's demonstration are from the

midwest and wanted to show solidarity. they held flags and bowed heads in player. right now, confusion and fear is running rampant at the university of missouri. some students decided to pack up and leave. the student body president spread a rumor the kkk was on campus. he later apologized and admitted he was wrong. cell phone video captured a white student mocking black students today and a sophomore from a second university of missouri campus was arrested over a social media post that threatened to kill black students. surveillance shows the moment of impact a private jet islamed over an apartment complex. look closely, you can see the jet hitting the building and bursting in flames. they said it was a clue as to exactly what caused it to crash.

fog could have been a factor and yesterday's crash killed all nine people on board. >> classmates will gather tomorrow to remember a college student from north potomac. friends found a student dead at the university of notre dame and there will be a mass tomorrow at the basilica on campus and there will be an autopsy to figure out how the student died. a university spokesperson says there were no signs of trauma or foul play. a salute to veterans. 12 guests of honor were in attendance for a special veterans day dinner including from the marine corps, air force, army and navy. >> it's a special day. great to be a veteran and in washington. >> one vet was 99 years old.

bloomingdale's is apologi apologizing tonight. an ad in a holiday catalog is sparking backlash and many people posting outrage on social media saying this ad encourages date rape. it features a man glancing at an unsuspecting woman looking the other way and the caption says spike your best eggnog when they're not looking. blooming dales says the copy we used in our catalog is imperfect and in poor taste and apologized for the poor judgment. all vets are not off tonight and fanduels and draftkings say it's business as usual despite demands from new york's top prosecutor. they both received letters ordering them to stop refugee bets because it violates state gambling laws. dra draftkings argue they're not

tonight for the first time we're seeing video of a confrontation between police and a virginia man that ended with his death. linwood lambert died in may of 2013 after south boston police tasered him as many as 20 times in one hour. officers were taking lampert -- lambert to the hospital because he was hallucinating and acting paranoid. when they got there he kicked

the windows out and charged that hospital entrance. officers tasered him repeatedly as he laid on the ground. >> every time you do that, i'm going to -- >> stop! >> why you trying to kill me, man? >> in stead of taking him inside the hospital, police but lambert back in the cruiser, drove him back to the police station. when they got there, he was unconscious, later pronounced dead. the autopsy report lists his cause of death as cocaine overdose. lambert's family has filed a $25 million federal civil suit against police. the south boston police department denies claims of excessive force saying lambert was a danger. a procedural case is set for tomorrow. a florida man in a coma after an electric electronic ci exploded in his face. that's another incident after they exploded.

alone. about 25 other fires triggered by electronic cigarette equipment in just the past five years, many while charging, including a 3-year-old burned in utah after an e cigarette exploded and ignited his car seat while charging in the family car and other in a victim's mouth and he lost teeth and part of a tongue. this guy walked into a restaurant with two cigarette batteries in his pocket. >> i put my keys in and walking in and waiting to talk to the lady at the front desk. >> reporter: he said flames eru erupted. >> fireworks coming off my pants. >> reporter: so many incidents, it happened to people trying to modify their equipment or used the wrong power source, before they even powered up the e cigarette to use, the e cigarette overpowered them. >> reporter: at this bait shop,

by around 9:30, the rain moves in and we see showers in leesburg and 10:30 around the montgomery county and d.c. metro area and downpour or two and for the most part we're talking lighter shower activity that moves out by noon. this is a fast hitting event and moves out of here and we get warmth with sunshine and we move back to low 60s during the afternoon. outdoor planner, 52 degrees at 7:00 a.m. looking good at 7:00 a.m. by 9:00, here comes the rain and temperatures move in the 50s and we jump as the sun moves out and temperatures in the 60s. a.m. showers and clearing skies as far as rain is concerned. we're not thinking too much. maybe a moderate shower or two but for the most part a small umbrella should do you just fine. not anticipating rain to last all that long. 64 on thursday, 57 on friday.

strasburg had a successful surgery to remove a non-cancerous growth from his back. that took place nine days ago. it did affect his pitching last season and battled a number of injuries including ankle oblique and back tightness. for more on the injury, kevin durant will miss a couple days after suffering a strained hamstring. he missed days a year ago because of foot problems. some things i have never seen in my life watching sports. the central michigan band and cheerleaders were basically told to shut up by officials in this middle of the game. >> no noise from the band or cheerlead others to interrupt the snap. reset the play clock to 25
