"news4's" megan mcgrath with more. megan? >> reporter: initially the victim was taken to the hospital alive but in critical condition. but we learn a short time ago this man died from a gunshot wound to the chest. he's the 142nd murt victim in d.c. so far this year. you can see a live look here at the crime scene.

still very active. we have a number of investigators here on the scene. they've been taking photographs. looking in the area right around the intersection of adams and downing street. that is where the shooting happened. it was about 2:30 this morning. that's when the shots rang out. when officers arrived on the scene, they found this man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chift. not a lot of information being released at this point. still no word on the potential mow tirch here. no lookout for suspects. but certainly police are looking for anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed this murder. they would like those witnesses to come forward, perhaps provide information to arrest the person responsible. but at this point, the killer is still on the loose. back you do in the studio. >> megan, thank you. it's 6:02. today sentencing day for a man accuse of killing a d.c. cab driver in cold blood. in september he was found guilty. he and his girlfriend hailed a taxi in northeast washington with the intention of robbing the driver.

he nad mohammed drive them to a nearby school and shot him in the head. he faces decades in prison now. a secret service officer accuse of sending naked photos in an underage sexting sting has his first court appearance. he used a messaging app to text and send naked pictures of himself to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl. he even admitted sends message whiels on duty at the white house. it turns out those messages were sent to an undercover cop in delaware. he's been suspended and is now on admed a on admed administratish lead. an isis executioner known as jihadi job may have been killed. his name is mohammed emwazi.

developing now, the coast guard is searching for a woman who fell off a cruise ship. the passenger on the norwegian pearl posted this picture. norwegian cruise lain said in an e-mail statement witnesses say the passenger intentionally went overboard. two people are facing charges for what you can see in this video.

a man is facing serious charges this morning after injuring two middle east emts. he lost control and skidded, hitting the two emts. this happened on a snowy day. we know now he faces dui and other charges. he has a history of alcohol-related incidents. in one case he received probation and in another he received 30 days in jail. a d.c. firefighter is facing charges. a second man is also facing charges related to a crash that killed one person in july. police say rasheed murray and an off-duty firefighter ryan thompson were drag ragging on 16th street northwest. murray's car jumped the median, went airborne, and crashed into the victim's car. 24-year-old matt roth was killed. a man faces up to seven

"news4's" megan mcgrath has more on the shooting. megan? >> reporter: well, eun, they're starting to wrap things up. you can see behind me we're down to one police cruiser, some officers talking to folks in the neighborhood, but the rest of the investigators have left at this point and the road adams street has reopened. hour, the search for the killer is still ongoing here. no arrests have been made at this point. now, it was about 2:30 this morning when shots rage out in the 1300 block of adams street. when police arrived, they found

a man. he had been shot in the chest. he was taken to the hospital in critical condition and a little while later we received word he died as a result of that gunshot wound. no word on the motive. no lookout for any suspects at this point. certainly police are looking for anyone in the airy who may have seen something that would help them find the killer because at this point no arrests have been made. this is the 142nd murder so far in d.c. this year. back to you. >> thank, megan. new details this morning about a house fire that killed two people in the district. according to the "washington post," the property was not licensed to rent rooms. len salas and his father max salas were named in the infraction notice earlier this week. the families of the victims are suing the men. fire officials say it was started by an electrical short. right now u.s. sources are trying to confirm a drone strike
