>> a big weather story midwest. they're getting slammed with snow, up to a foot has fallen across cedar falls in iowa, 6 to 10 inches are expected in the chicago area and there are a few flight cancellations in and out of dulles international and reagan international airplanes, a heavy band of snow is expected to continue through the weekend. >> none of that white stuff expected here, but we are certainly feeling the freeze this morning. >> we sure are. meteorologist kom could you rhine tracking temperatures that definitely feel like winter. >> it's getting that time of year where we're starting to see our widespread freezes coming off and on maybe two or three days and this is one of those days. starting off cold this morning, our temperatures are down into the 20s in the suburbs and rural areas, that includes shenandoah area, dulles 28, gaithersburg a little above freezing, frederick

paris. terrorists are targeting shopping centers, large gatherings, public transportation systems and officials fear the attack would be carried out by several people in multiple locations. >> we're also hearing that metro stations are closed until tomorrow afternoon, all major events also canceled. >> all of this comes one week after those horrific attacks in paris. this morning we're learning turkish authorities arrested three people with suspected isis ties. they are believed to be connected to those attacks in france. security followed one of the men as he checked into a luxury hotel in turkey. they detained him along with two other syrian suspects, all three being held in jail. >> in response to those attacks terps fans will notice more security against indiana university. fans can expect to see more k-9s and uniformed officers, backpacks will not be allowed and fans have to go through security. all new this morning, d.c.

police working to piece together a crash involving a cop car, taxi and suv. two officers were in the cruiser and three people in the cab. they weren't badly hurt but you can see right there the cop car slammed into a business at h and 8th streets. this happened just after midnight in northeast. the taxi crashed against a pole and the suv was rear-ended. as soon as we get more information about this we are going to have it on our nbc washington app. all of this heightened security comes after an extremist group overtook a hotel in the west african country of mali. 20 people killed in the capital city as terrorists held more than 100 people captive. a dozen americans were among those rescued at the radisson hotel. a former al qaeda commander is claiming responsibility. mali's government is in a state of emergency and has declared three days of mourning. >> one of those victims is 41-year-old anita datar.

so this was the scene at a high school football game in miami. you can see pretty chaotic. it ended early after gunshots sent players and coaches ducking for cover. according to the miami harold less than three minutes left in that game when the shots rang o out. no injuries reported. new cases of e.coli are being linked to chipotle. a majority of illnesses have been in oregon and washington state. most of those restaurants have reopened. so far 45 people have been infected and 16 had to go to the hospital. the cdc is trying to figure out the specific food linked to the

a 16-year-old facing life in prison for killing a cop in southern california. abel diaz was charged as a adult. officer galdez was shot inside his park in a parking lot. the 29-year-old had just finished his shift on wednesday night, two other suspects are expected to be charged on monday. now to a horrific story, this one out of new york this morning. a pregnant woman is stabbed to death after police say she got into a fight with another woman. police were called to the

apartment where that argument turned physical. the baby did survive but what she told police was even more disturbing. >> when the cops arrived the perpetrator tried to claim that it was her child that was there that was surgically -- and saying that she gave birth at the time of the struggle. >> well, it is still unclear if the two women knew each other or what the motive was for the stabbing. the baby remains hospitalized, the mother that was killed was nine months pregnant. he is refusing to go i have into hate after the paris attackers killed one man's wife ez last week's attacks he has written a letter that's giving inspiration across the world. nbc's kelly koeb yea shares his determined message. >> reporter: while paris mourns this week lighting candles, laying flowers one facebook post expressed the grief and defiance of a nation. his wife was killed at the

cheating software. the epa says that software may be on diesel vehicles than originally thought. the epa accused of vw of using it on 10,000 vw and audi vehicles from 2014 to this year. now the auto maker says the same software is on vehicles going back to 2009 models. the epa says it will investigate and take appropriate action. it was a horrific crash that devastated the hyattsville community, 5 dead, 14 injured when a church van went up in flames earlier this month. erika gonzalez sat down with a father and son still waiting for the rest of that i remember family to come home from the hospital. >> reporter: freddie rodriguez has been home from the hospital a couple days. he has a broken arm and badly burned arm. he tells me he remembers the interest you can that would eventually hit them zigzagging through traffic with smoke and two wheels on fire. he would swerve the van which carried more than a dozen people headed to church but couldn't

get out of the way fast enough. screams and silence, the impact he says pushed the steering wheel and dashboard into his chest and the vanwe caught fire. freddie jr. says first responders freed him from the wreck. >> reporter: were you scared? >> i was worried. >> reporter: you were very worried. what were you worried about? >> my mom, she went up with god. >> reporter: freddie's mom survived the cash, she's badly injured and so is her six-year-old daughter, but the baby boy she was set to deliver did not make it. once in the hospital rodriguez says the infant was laid on his chest for an hour before he was taken away. the first and last moments with his youngest son. the emotional pain is greater than the physical. and while he knows there is a long road to recovery ahead he

jake is at the theater for rehearsals and shows 12 hours a day with mondays off. that's when he goes to school, gets the lesson plan from his teacher. he says he finishes it on tuesday. >> reporter: have you ever tired? >> yes. i get tired sometimes. >> reporter: but theater can be an amazing education. jake is working with actors from broadway like jeff mccarthy and has shown him how to bring it. >> he is in a sleeping bag and i pull him open and scream right in his face and he gives it right back at me. he is a beam of light this kid. we're lucky to have him. >> there's something absolutely fantastic about working with young children in the theater because they are just in the process of becoming. >> reporter: and jake is just becoming adept at musicalñ+ theater. >> i was so nervous. i was so nervous, but i was so happy at the same time. i was nervous-cited.
