thanksgiving drivers should beware. progressive insurance found accidents increase by 25% the day before thanksgiving. the analysis also found the sunday after thanksgiving has the highest percentage of out of state accidents of any day in the holiday week. monday is still the safest time to head home after the thanksgiving holiday. extra police this holiday weekend hoping to cut down on the number of crashes. virginia state police issued a thanksgiving day challenge, drive to save lives. last year eight people died on the roads in virginia during the holiday week. virginia has already had more traffic deaths in 2015 than by this time last year. just this past week nine people died in crashes on virginia highways. only one person in the crashes was wearing a seat belt. with islam we find its peace to perform jihad. >> this new video threat from isis as we enter one of the busiest travel days of the year.

>> back to this video and the new threat from isis. they're playing specifically against the united states. this as international cooperation ramps up in the fight against isis. today president obama will get a briefing from his national security team. over seas a new search for a man named mohammed abrini. investigators say he drove the car that carried key terror suspects salaa abdeslam. an update on the numbers. they now have more than 162 people in custody in connection with the never 13th attacks. new evidence the terror in paris could have been worse. they foiled the suspected ring leader's plans for another attack on the city just last week. just into the live desk, we learned at that a rush schaab pie lot is safe at a russian base. he was one of two pilots that parachuted out of the plane. the other pilot was killed by

syrian rebels who say they have his body now. a russian marine on a rescue mission was also killed. this pilot was escaped and was rescued by the syrian army. he just arrived at the russian base today. we're told russian president vladimir putin called the events a stab in the back and warned it would come with consequences. 4:35. today the pentagon will declassify an investigation into a doctor's without borders hospital. there were human and technical glitches in that attack. now 4:35. a man found guilty of murder and robbery is facing jail time.

he's at a cleaning business in gaithersburg. two employees were shot. more security on hand in the courtroom today. they have threatened the prosecutor in the past hearings. his nephew has been charged in those robberies. this morning we're learning about a flash mob robbery. they robbed a diesel store. there's no word on what was taken. this is the same store that was hit in a similar way in september of last year. that time surveillance video caught four men to walk in and grab an arm full of expensive jeans. you may have a few months to

weigh in on a dominion power project. the cole ash is potentially dangerous. they say people need longer than december 14th to think about the consequences. they asked for a 60 day extension. d.c. mayor muriel bowser is improving access to public libraries for students. she'll announce the connected library challenge. this is where a student i.d. will automatically become a library card for all high school and middle school students. more than 70,000 kids will be impacted. it is now 4:37. right now hurricane sandra is heading towards mexico. the storm is expected to strengthen in the next few days. so far sandra has produced winds of 75 miles per hour. sandra may bring heavy downpours across southern baja and northern mexico. sandra is the 18th named storm

right now pope francis is on his way to africa. he said he wants the visit to be a mission of peace. an annapolis man is suing the city because he said police are targeting him for, quote, driving while white. daniel hodges said officers unlawfully stopped him and questioned him about drug activity. the reason he said he was a white man in a predominantly african-american and latino neighborhood. he wants $150,000 in damages. they decline to comment on the suit. 4:41. weather and traffic on the 1s. chuck, not quite as cold as it was this time yesterday but -- >> but.

now to a developing story. an nfl player shot tuesday night is in the hospital in critical but stable condition. take a look. this is st. louis rams wide receiver stedman bailey. he was shot in miami and will have surgery tomorrow. that was the latest update. the team released a statement overnight saying that they've been in touch with the player and, quote, we are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more. the nfl network reports that bailey was shot twice in the head while in a car with family members. now the driver of that car was shot several times and has life threatening injuries. bailey was recently suspended for substance abuse violation. eun. >> angie, thank you. 4:46. now to the effort to target isis. president obama will talk with top advisers today on homeland security. this is millions plan to travel for the holidays. nbc's tracie potts is live on capitol hill with what's happening today. >> reporter: hi.

good morning beings eun. today the president meets with his national security team. yesterday was the focus on isis. today is what they're doing to keep america safe as a lot of people head out for this holiday. there's no credible threat and no new intelligence, but certainly in light of what's hang nancy since the paris attacks -- internationally since the paris attacks, lots of concerns. so the president will sit down with his team and get a briefing on what's happening at airports, train stations, the visible extra security you'll see. the extra security you will not see. there is a new isis propaganda video out mentioning the military and new fbi bulletins telling police to watch their backs, to be careful. but security experts say one of the best tools in the war on terror is you, that campaign that the government has had has been pretty successful. if you see something, say something. or in this case, send something. they have a new app now where you can take a picture of something suspicious and send it to authorities.

>> tracie potts live on capitol hill. thank you, tracie. even with the travel warnings, two students at howard university plan to take their stid yis overseas. eric boon is going to paris and melissa is headed to ghana. she is expected to take trips to other continents like nigeria. >> i'm a firm believer in going out and doing it. you can't let anything stop you. >> news 4 reached out to the deputy director of the study abroad director at howard. the department is working closely with law enforcement and they're also staying in close contact with the state department. new details this morning in a deadly double shooting in the district. we now know the name of one of the men involved in that shooting in southeast. dwayne ran son was shot and killed sunday night. a second man was shot and is in the hospital facing charges. the victims shot at each other.

police say this picture shows the vehicle that may have hit 69-year-old dahor khan. he was crossing the road november 1st when he was killed. police are looking for the driver of that white vehicle or anyone else who may have seen something. >> new concerns to help the homeless in d.c. mayor muriel bowser plans to replace the shelter with eight smaller family shelters. they would be spread out in eight wards. the biggest concern is what schools children will attend and if it will lead to over crowding. >> children of homeless families should be able to go to the nearest school or their original school or whatever school makes the most sense. i think actually that's what's going to happen. >> it is 4:49. new this morning, a man has died of middle east respiratory syndrome in south korea.

he was the last patient there with the virus in that country. this spring mers infected more than 180,000 people in south korea. it caused 16,000 to be quarantined. a total of 38 people died of that respiratory illness. listen up if you are shopping at a costco in virginia and recently ahead of virginia. the cdc is warning people that recently purchased rotisserie chicken salad that it may be contaminated with e.coli. if you bought the saltd from any costco store on or before november 20th, do not eat t. throw it away. so far it's connected to several cases of food poisoning in several states including virginia. dozens of people had thanksgiving dinner hand delivered. the high school students delivered them. they're part of a program called man hood 101. >> i think it's very nice that they are thinking about seniors.
