president reassures a nervous nation speaking on the eve of thanksgiving, president obama says national security agencies have gotten no credible threats of a plot against the homeland. >> it's just one of the big stories heading into the holiday. transportation reporter adam tuss is keeping an eye on security at union station and chief meteorologist doug kammerer has your holiday forecast coming up. first at 4:00, we are following a developing story in the district. an update on the video showing d.c. police officers forcefully stopping a local college student. it made national headlines and sparked an internal review. that review is now done and the officers who stopped jason goolsby last month did everything according to department policy. meagan fitzgerald is live at d.c. police headquarters. what are you hearing, meagan? >> reporter: chief linear asked for an extensive investigation into the case because she wanted to be transparent and wanted the public to know exactly what happened and what the report

revealed was discrepancies between what the teen says and what the officers found. the officers didn't do anything wrong. >> shortly after cell phone video captured jason goolsby, a udc student and former student ambassador to the white house decided against withdrawing money at this bank in capitol hill in october. a woman thought he and his friends looked suspicious and called 911. when officers arrived, goolsby took off running because he said he feared for his life, but when officers caught up to him, linear says he refused commands to take his hand out of his backpack so officers threatened to use pepper spray before taking him down. >> understand that that's an important thing for us to be able to see your hands. we never know who we're walking up on or if someone might have a weapon and we want to go home at end of the day. >> we feel that the officers' actions given the entirety of the circumstances were appropriate and within department policy.

>> reporter: shortly after this incident you may recall goolsby's attorney held a press conference with him and he also said during that press conference that the incident lasted two hours and according to the report, officers' accounts and the witnesses in the area the incident only lasted 25 to 30 minutes and we did reach out to goolsby's attorney for a comment and he did promise us one. coming up at 5:00, hear from chief linear about a mistake the dispatcher made when relaying that report of the initial 911 call to officers. back to you. >> thanks, meagan. activists are calling to shut down the retail corridor on black friday. protests started after police released video after showing an officer released video, demonstrators did block streets in chicago. police have arrested a handful of people and jason van dyke said he feared for his safety

when he shot 17-year-old laquan mcdonald and he called this video unreliable. van dyke is charged with first-degree murder and he is now on unpaid leave. here at home, the holiday rush is on and union station may be one of the busiest spots in our area. people there are seeing an unprecedented level of security. troilgz report transportation reporter adam tuss is live the amtrak hub. >> it is busy and you notice the security presence and let's take a look at everybody as they move around inside union station and this is one of the busiest travel days of the year for amtrak, no doubt. right now on the board, everything looks to be on time. that's the good news. all of this coming amidst an intense security presence here at union station. there are armed officers and k-9 dog teams and just about everywhere you turn in the station. in fact, homeland security secretary jeh johnson was here earlier and he told people to go

side to the north. this is what we're tracking and we're tracking a very warm day tomorrow. black friday, if you're headed out to any of the stores on black friday, we have that for you, too, and we're tracking showers and cooler temperature over the weekend and we'll tell you which day will be better and i have all of that coming up at 4:25. this is chris gordon at the montgomery county courthouse where a judge sentenced rupert stance calling him the architect of two armed robberies at a gaithersburg cleaners. video from metro's wheaton station shows the gun man and accomplice running trying to make their get away and they used this video to catch them and the mastermind of the armed robbery, rupert stamps. he was sentenced to 72 years in prison. >> two senior citizens that were

working their jobs got caught up on this robbery and suffered permanent injuries. >> do the victims and their families feel that justice was done in this case? back to you. >> we haven't even gotten to thanksgiving yet, but stores and shopping centers like tyson's here, they're getting for those of you eager to shop. police tell us, though, the holiday criminals, they haven't waited for the sales to start. several arrests in just the past few days linked to theft and stores across our region. in one case, these four men iphones. police found some 241 stolen credit card numbers on them. >> it had red flags all over the place. >> correct. when some of the cards didn't go through, they would grab another card and use that card to continue making the purchase. >> reporter: so your holiday shopping may be a little more crowded this year. we'll tell you what police in fairfax county are planning to do to catch the thiefs and how

shopping at places like tyson's. that's coming up on news 4 at 5:00. i'm culver, news 4. >> the flight crew onboard a police helicopter caught and spotted this fire and probably saved the lives of a family in fairfax county. >> is that a house on fire? >> it sure looks like it. >> fairfax 1 was flying back to base after a burglary call and saw smoke coming out of a shed near lee highway. it was 3:30 in the morning and they had to use an infrared camera to start the fire. it turns out an elderly person and three kids were asleep in the home and they made it out of the house okay thanks to the chopper crew's quick thinking. a vow to keep protesting, why jamar clark won't die in vain. we continue to follow a developing story. president obama delivers a thanksgiving message to america and we'll go live to the hill straight ahead. we are following breaking news. new information about the death of an nfl superstar.

breaking news right now about football great frank gifford. we are just learning that he was suffering from a concussion-related brain disease called cte. gifford's family released a statement just a short time ago. they decided to have his brain studied shortly after he died earlier this year and they've decided to go public. cte is triggered by repeated head trauma that can cause memory loss, depression and dementia. despite calls to an end of the demonstrations, more protests are expected tonight in minneapolis. >> many residents are still upset and demanding answers about the death of a young black man shot and killed. his funeral took place this morning. hundreds filled the church and many vowing to keep protesting. people have rallied every day since jamar clark died. community leaders have called for an end to demonstrations altogether after five protesters were shot and wounded monday.

plenty of sunshine and temperatures that made their way into the mid-50s across the area and average high temperature is 54 and we made it to 56 and back to 55 degrees with plenty of sunshine and it is just another gorgeous, spectacular day and fredericksburg and 54 back toward the winchester area. temperatures will cool tonight and not nearly as cool as it's been the last couple of nights. storm team 4 radar once again dry and we're continuing to be dry across most of the country, so if you're traveling up i-95 to boston, no problem. back toward chicago, no problems today, but we are tracking a couple of storm systems. one of which will bring snow to places like denver and denver under a winter weather advisory and the mountains could get upwards of ten inches in the next couple of days and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s and shenandoah around 57 degrees and looking good there and the turkey doing a dance and looking good, as well.

justified in an incident that got national attention. kathy linear says they followed department policy when they frisked jason goolsby. goolsby hired an attorney and said he was racially profiled and brutalized. a man from college park, maryland, accused of making $100,000 in fraudulent claim against his mother's insurance. he used it to shop at louis vuitton and neiman-marcus and used it to take trips. prosecutors say he kept filing false claims even after his mother died. a man sentenced to 30 years, and his daughter spoke to us a while ago about what her father meant to her and how difficult it's been since his untimely murder. the victim mitchell white was breaking up a fight between his son and another young man and it

raid returned to the scene of the massacre in the hours after the attack. that news comes as the police say they are now looking for another suspect, belgium and french authorities releasing an international arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man mohamed a brimmy and salah abdeslam on their days to paris. that raises questions on whether the massacre could have been prevented. meanwhile, people are returning to work, schools are reopening and the subway is operating. >> the alert level is quite reasonable otherwise they wouldn't open the schools and the metro. so i think it's a really good time. >> reporter: the simple act of taking your children to school on the morning commute has turned into an act of defiance against the terrorists and the authorities clearly believe that while not apprehending every suspect managed to disrupt a

terrorist cell simply by carrying out so many arrests and house raids. back to you. u.s. military officials say bombing that hospital in afghanistan was tragic, avoidable and mostly caused by human error. the military released its first public report on kunduz. it fired 200 shells before commandos realized they'd made a mistake. the bombing killed 30 doctors and patients at a doctors without borders hospital, but the intended target was 400 to 500 yard away. doctors without borders say the report is shocking and leaves them with more questions than answers. cheers for pope francis when he arrived in kenya. he has just begun his first-ever visit to the continent of africa. his schedule includes stops in uganda and the central afghan republic, an active conflict zone. the pope is brushing aside security concerns on the flight to kenya, he was asked whether he was worried about security

we're looking up as you head to see loved ones or as they head to see you, this is denver international airport where right now they're in the winter weather advisory and right now around denver, they're expecting just under a foot of snow and the mountains are around denver around six inches and the mountains just under a foot of snow. again, we'll check the board. just cloudy conditions right now with temperatures that are cold enough for snow getting there in the 30s currently. one trouble spot in one location that you'll need to continue to check because once again, snow in the forecast and also chicago where they're expecting rain and look at this, no delays all of the way through from denver to new york city where temperatures will be warming up and not quite as mild there as it is here and boston is at 42. everyone's got the green light. the weather tomorrow will have a low impact on our area. sunshine another gorgeous day coming our way just a few high clouds and we start out early thanksgiving day morning. in the upper 30s and not much of

a cold spot anywhere. we're not seeing temperatures freezing, and upper 30s and that is some awesome weather for thanksgiving and one of the thanksgivingings and the warmest that the we've had since 2007 and the best weather in the nation and 52 degrees and gaithersburg only and 61 in herndon for the high temperature tomorrow down around stafford and fredericksburg, now as we get into the day friday, we start out into the day on friday and no issues throughout the day. it will be warm and mild. we top out at 65 to 66 degrees during the afternoon already hitting 60 degrees by lurch time. there is some rain in the forecast. it is for the weekend and this is saturday at 11:00 and you can see rain just approaching the area. that's when we'll get our change around here and the rain moves in early sunday morning and there are your showers at 6:00 a.m. and temperatures 50 to 51 degrees and rain looking likely

aren't believe his eyes. >> the umbilical cord was still dangling from the baby. >> reporter: emts checked the baby and he appeared to be health. >> church members say surveillance camera caught a woman, possibly the mother entering the church about 20 minutes before the newborn was found. >> a woman did come into the church with some bag and left the church and the bag was sort of dangling in the wind. >> under new york's safe haven law parents can abandon a newborn at a safe location like a church, hospital or police station, but they have to notify someone and that didn't happen in this case. it is unclear whether the woman will face charges. for now police are trying to identify her and the bigger question is what will happen to the baby. >> this child, we believe is a gift almost to this parish. >> reporter: social services is looking for a home for the newborn, but after hearing his incredible story he's got parish members calling the church volunteering to be his new parents. >> it means that people care and

a long, one-month investigation that was thorough and interviewed several cops that responded and witnesses paint a different story. video of 18-year-old jason goolsby be restrained in capitol hill quickly went viral and it was determined that goolsby didn't do anything and wasn't arrested and in a month-long investigation, kathy linear said her two officers didn't feel anything wrong either. given the entirety of the circumstances were appropriate and within department policy. >> this all started on october 12th when a woman called 911 because she thought goolsby and his friends looked suspicious at an atm in capitol hill. the report says the dispatcher got it wrong, telling officers the subject may have been robbing people, but it was later clarified. i think the confusion and the radio transmission doesn't help, but i don't think it alone is a factor in this at all. >> goolsby's attorney
