live in bethesda, police are cracking down against drunk driving and tell us this is one of the busiest nights of the year. >> i'm tracking the next chance for rain. i'll tell you when it arrivearr >> we start tonight at the live desk with new video from the chicago police shooting and protesters promising to shut down the city's main shopping district on friday. take a look. here are live pictures. a few dozen protesters marching down michigan avenue and some shouting justice for laquan and 16 shots. and some calling to shutdown the magnificent mile the busiest shopping day of the year and the board of trade. >> already shot 15 times and motionless on the ground, the video shows no officers even trying to give him first-aid. another angle shows a nearby

burger king, whose district manager tells nbc chicago police deleted nearly 90 minutes of security footage from the surveillance camera. officials deny this but can't explain what happened on that video. president obama posted on facebook he was deeply disturbed by the initial footage but grateful to chicago for keeping the protest peaceful. >> thank you. a local family is getting ready to celebrate a thanksgiving they might not have had if not for actions from above from fairfax police officers. >> they spotted this fire from above and the middle of the night and the people in the house including three children had no idea anything was wrong. >> shomari talked to that family. >> reporter: that family is fortunate no be alive. they were actually sleeping inside their home, three kids, the great grandmother, the fl e flames started in the back.

thanks god for the chopper ahead you heard them talking about. let's take a look at the fire. >> is that a house on fire? it sure looks like it. that house is roaring. >> reporter: take a look. a camera on fairfax police helicopter captures a raging fire. two officers happened to be crossing near georgetown university when they caught the flames and thick smoke. >> looks like something is on fire. looks like a house is on fire. >> you can smell it now. >> reporter: 76-year-old simone miller and her great grandkids are sleeping inside the house 3:30 in the morning november 1st. the flight crew finds them by using a gps to determine their address. officers alert a dispatcher who calls the fire department. >> when they knocked on the door, i was wondering who's knocking at 3:30 in the morning. that's when i came out, the officer was already here and he

said, you have to get out of the house. >> reporter: she wakes up her great grandkids and they all get out. >> looks like it hasn't made to it the actual structure yet, which is good. >> reporter: firefighters put out the blaze stopping the fl e flames from spreading. they say a light fixture located under the deck spark this fire. >> it could have turned to tragedy this time of the year. >> reporter: the firefighters have made this year's thanksgiving that much more special. >> we say prayer often but say big prayer this time. >> reporter: investigators tell me the smoke alarms in this house were not working. a good reminder for all of us to check your smoke alarm, especially during this holiday season. i'm shomari stone, news4. >> that is a good reminder. we're still working to learn the name of the man killed tonight in landover shot just before 5:00 this evening near the king shopping center and not

in disguise. some undercover officers busted four men for credit card fraud at tyson's mall on monday and looking for suspicious activity given increased concerns about terrorism. navigating the malls might be a little easier this year. tomorrow, vdot will change the timing on traffic lights to help you move around major shopping sites in northern virginia. vdot used the data from last year's holiday season to develop new timing at more than 200 intersecti intersections. the timing lasts until new year's day. >> the historical plaque at donald trump's golf course in loudoun county of those who supposedly died in a battle that took place along the potomac river. the inscription says so many died it was known as the river of blood. but they say no battle took

the nfl is responding to the revelation frank gifford had the concussion disease known as cte. they appreciate the gifford's desire to help the 3medical community understand cet and made 39 rule changes to enhance player health and safety at all levels of football. the new york giants, the team gifford led to a championship says it supports the family's decision to contribute to science and calls it an issue we take very seriously. gifford died of natural causes earlier this year. cte cannot be diagnosed until after a person dies. we'll be watching in a few hours as tens of thousand of people line the streets of manhattan to watch the macy's

thanksgiving parade. while the potential record crowd watches the parade, a record number of officers will be wa h watching everything else. 2500 officers will line the streets, especially trained hercules teams will be ready to move in at the first sign of any security threat. new york city police commissioner says having fun sends a strong message to terrori terrorists. >> and i want to encourage people if they come to this parade to enjoy, really enjoy. a way of pushing back op some events going on around the world. >> floats for the parade are coming to life now. people watched as they inflated the balloons to get them ready to head down broadway. coverage begins at 9:00 a.m. today, president obama and the first family said thank you by serving up dinner to the local homeless population in d.c. they took part in the annual feast with friends at the friendship homeless center in northwest.
