your saturday. rain chances the second part of the weekend. for now, kim mccormack in first 4 traffic. we have a small problem in montgomery county, mid county highway at shady grove road. you need to be careful. police are on the scene. it will slow things down for you. fortunately there's not a whole lot of traffic out there. what delays are going to be there are very, very light. want to remind everybody that vre is operating on an "s" schedule today. you will not find things moving along as rapidly as they usually do. maybe you saw these incredible pictures on our facebook page yesterday. a man jumped the white house fence. now facing charges. >> we were watching this unfold in the newsroom. the white house was on lockdown for several hours yesterday as joseph caputo jumped the newly upgraded fence wearing an american flag. president obama and his family were inside for the holiday. megan fitzgerald has more on caputo.

>> reporter: cell phones were out and rolling moments after joseph caputo managed to scale the white house fence. >> many people were taking pictures. >> reporter: many of those pictures show the man wearing gloves, draped in the american flag with a binder in his mouth. sources close to the investigation say caputo took a few steps on the north lawn before being met by secret service agents who carried him away. his family members confirm that this is a picture of him standing in front of the white house just three days ago. today he ended up on the other side. >> whew. he was climbing like crazy. >> reporter: we've seen several people jump the fence in the last few years, this is the first time it happened since the spikes were installed over the summer. >> any time someone successfully jumps the fence, no question there's a level of danger. >> reporter: more than three miles away, secret service agents investigated a ford taurus with connecticut tags and the words caput on the license. law enforcement sources tell

news 4 the vehicle belongs to caputo. the white house was locked down for several hours and secret service officials are investigating yet again how a man made it to the other side. those new sharp metal spikes that you were told about, those were added to the top of the fence in june after an army veteran pled guilty to scaling the fence with a knife last yeayea year. eleanor holmes for then told news 4 that after members were briefed and shown the spikes and assured they would work, i'm flabbergastered that almost immediately it didn't. norton wants the secret service to brief her next week on what happened. the news 4 iteam has reported extensively on the changes. the spikes are just a temporary measure. the secret service is still debating a permanent solution, which could include a curved fence or building a second one.

developing this morning. new protests in chicago designed to shut down black friday shopping. we have new video that might be disturbing to some of you. it shows angles from police dash cam of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald before a police officer shot and killed him. in the video, you can see the officer drive through the parking lot as he chases mcdonald down. after mcdonald was shot no officer sees if he's okay. there's no audio, so we don't know exactly what police are saying. >> in my experience, i never had a case with an audio recording. >> today protesters are marching on one of the busiest streets in chicago. everyone is out for black friday. the protesters calling for the police superintendent and the state's attorney to resign. >> a different protest in d.c. today that you may see while out

shopping. demonstrators are demanding a living wage from walmart. they are asking for regular schedules and $15 an hour. they say having neither makes it hard to buy food for their families. today's protest is happening at 9:00 at the walmart on h street. >> for some it started last night, but today is officially black friday. it's called the super bowl of shopping. it is a big deal. many line up, some even camp out for the big sales. this morning new 4's molette green is braving the crowds. she's not shopping, don't think you are. you're talking to shoppers, right? >> i lost my earrings just a few minutes ago, so there may be some shopping involved before the day is out. we're live outside the westville montgomery mall. people are coming and going, but no big crowds just yet. one store manager told me it was really crowded around midnight. and a shopper i spoke with 30

as we've been telling you, while many stores opened hours ago, many decided to opt out of the black friday madness. about a month ago many retailers said doors will be shut today. the aim was to encourage a lot of you to #optoutside and enjoy the outdoors. many national and state parks are offering special deals. many offering free entry today. just to encourage you to get out. what a perfect day to do so. >> absolutely. rei was one of those stores that launched a huge twitter campaign in an effort to get people outside. today might be a great day to do that. chuck bell is standing by with the many reasons why that's

service to remember the victims of the terror attacks two weeks ago. this is a live picture now. the names of the 130 victims will be read allowed. the music being played now. the victims families and survivors are at the service. president hollande just spoke and promised to destroy the army of fanatics who responsible of the attacks. that may be too little too late for some because they say french authorities could have done more to protect them. vladimir putin says russia will continue helping the u.s. in its fight against isis. in a meeting with french president francois hollande yesterday, putin said the only thing that could jeopardize russia's cooperation in syria is another incident like tuesday's. turkey shot down a russian fighter jet and has refused to apologize saying that jet violated its airspace.

officials in belgium this morning lowered the terror threat level for the first time in days. it's a step below the maximum alert but that doesn't rule out a serious risk for an attack. on thursday, police conducted three new raids outside brussels. they are hunting for europe's most wanted man. they say salah abdeslam is part of a larger terror cell and could be planning more attacks. here at home we know the name of the man who was killed in landover. prince george's county police say somebody shot quecellus davis on bell haven drive. he was from forrestville and was 23 years old. police have not arrested anybody yesterday. they are offering a $25,000 reward. an update to a story out of baltimore. a 17-year-old stabbed at a classroom at renaissance academy high school this week. police charged a 17-year-old with attempted murder in that case. they're working to find out why the attack happened.

one person shot outside a louisiana mall last night. the victim expected to survive. police said it was a fight between two people, and it had not to do with holiday shopping. both the victim and the suspect fled the scene after the shooting. police later learned the victim was in the hospital and the shooter still on the run this morning. so if you do your food shopping at costco, listen to this. a california farm recalling a vegetable mix that may be the source of e. coli in costco chicken salad. 19 people have fallen ill after eating the salad. taylor farms pacific is recalling a mix of diced cellry and onion used in the salad. the salad was also sold at target and starbucks. d.c. water taking on a major federal agency, the epa. d.c. water says the agency did not add up numbers right when it tested for e. coli in the city's water that testing could lead to

defense team running to put out a fire. so just a lot of chaos there. if confirmed, though, as a russian attack, it would be one of moscow's closest air strikes to turkish territory. nbc news, by the way, has not independently verified the video. this morning we're hearing from members of the california band eagles of death metal. they're opening up about the paris terror attacks in a new interview. the group was performing at the bataclan. and were about an hour into the show when terrorists stormed the concert hall. they sat down for an exclusive interview with the founder of vice. take a listen. >> people started dropping to the ground, injuries, death. and then also running -- there's nowhere to go. so they basically ran into me, towards me, and jumped down below my console. i was still standing up. i can see the gunmen. he looked right at me. he shot at me and he missed.

>> that's a powerful interview. you can watch it in its entirety on vice.com. two siblings are back home after they disappeared five days ago. somebody find james ward and rosa thomas sleeping inside their jeep in pennsylvania. that's about 250 miles away from their home in landover. they went missing monday afternoon, and police were concerned that thomas didn't have her medication. we still don't know why the siblings drove out of state, but police say they're doing okay. a tradition at ohio state university is ending after a student broke his neck and died. want to show you video from the annual jump into mirror lake it happens every year before ohio state plays michigan. this year things went horribly wrong after student had to be pulled from that water. he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. it happened at a rally in south carolina. it looks as if presidential candidate donald trump is mocking a reporter's disability.

specifically to be sold at the outlet, consumers think they're getting a better deal than they are. >> people get excited about the discounts they get. these manufacturers and these retailers understand that well. so the bigger the discount you think you're getting, the more likely you are to buy things. >> reporter: in court documents retailers have denied the allegations against them. so we reached out. most said they would not talk about pending litigation. nordstrom tells us the allegations have no merit. the retailer admits that it manufacturers products doing sold only at nordstrom rack, but told new 4 that items offered for sale at nordstrom rack with compare prices are not lesser quality versions of lidge nall items. michael kors initially denied the allegations and later settled, agreeing to pay $5 million, but without admitting wrongdoing. >> in our settlement with michael kors, it no longer says msrp with the line strike

it's a valuable tool for retailers who can learn more about what products you like. more people are signing on to google's ad technology which uses web searches and google maps and allows retailers to figure out which search terms, ads ads are driving you to get off the couch and into stores. the downtown holiday market is celebrating its opening day of shopping. the market is on the "s" street walk in front of the smithsonian. more than 150 artists will take part from now until december 23rd. 60 booths will be open every day. the 46th d.c. turkey bowl is in the books. number one, h.d. woodson high school is celebrating a championship today. the team beat wilson high school in the annual game.

>> yes, they did. a lot of city leaders were there including mayor muriel bowser and former mayor vincent gray. it's their third straight turkey bowl win. we just mentioned that downtown market that will be open from noon to 8:00, we'll have more on that as the newscast continues. speaking of the turkey bowl, ma some great pictures to see some of those. a recycling center in hyattsville doing something anti-black friday. they hope lots of people come together to make gifts instead of buying them. there are sales there, too, starting at 11:00. they'll have events to teach you how to use recycled materials to make your own gifts. as we come up at 5:57 now
