there? that's where the suspect made a wrong move, when he turned down a dead end street. >> literally, figuratively the end of the road for a man that fled from a traffic stop and led police on a chase through two jurisdictions. it must have looked like a movie scene as the suspect plowed into the tree and fence. he was quickly surrounded by officers including some whose cars he repeatedly smashed. just listen to the radio communication from the officers and cruisers. one fairfax county unmarked cruiser was left behind just off the beltway after it was hit and that's where police thought they had the guy stopped, boxing him in at a light and then the civilian car in front of him moved. >> i heard a bunch of noise, the police officers were speeding down to the light. when they got to the light,

for scaling the white house fence showed little emotion during his first court appearance. meagan fitzgerald is live. >> reporter: a judge ordered the suspect here, 23-year-old joseph caputo to be transported for a psychological evaluation, and tonight we received court documents, we combed through them and learned what investigators found on him shortly after he was arrested. it was a normal day at the white house on thursday. >> i was just there taking pictures. >> until spectators snapped these pictures of the 23-year-old from connecticut hopping over the fence with the american flag and a binder in his mouth. court documents say he said, quote, i love my country, and

quote, i knew i would be locked up. before he was, investigators say they found a usb flash drive in the form of a captain american shield, a pocket guide to the u.s. constitution and weight lifting gloves. we spoke with the congresswoman that represents d.c., and she said his ability to make it over the fence highlights a security risk and one she wants to question secret service agents about. >> terrorists are not 95% of the people nor was this man. >> he appeared in court on friday and showed little emotion as a judge released him to the custody of the secret service for a psychological evaluation. his family was seated behind him, and they didn't have anything to say as they quickly walked out of the courthouse. >> reporter: he is facing a charge of illegal entry and he is due back in court on monday.

coming up at 6:00, we'll explain why investigators say they found a suicide note and why they found it in virginia. reporting in northwest, meagan fitzgerald, news4. here at the live desk we are learning new details about the standoff in colorado. police are now telling us they are still being fired upon. a man with a gun is still shooting at them at that planned parenthood office. they also say there are civilians still inside and several of them are hurt. this is all happening just outside colorado springs. one witness says she heard at least 20 shots in less than five minutes, and then saw an officer fall to the ground. a spokesperson says four officers have been hurt and they have now called in the fbi to help. what is not clear is if this man has any hostages or an accomplice. the hospital just told us they have five patients and what they have not said is if they are civilians or police officers.

the man was seen walk into traffic and the metro bus driver is not expected to be charged. right now in chicago, protesters are demanding the mayor, the lead prosecutor and the police superintendent all step down. hundreds of people marched on the miracle mile today, blocking traffic and disrupting shoppers looking for the black friday deals. they are also upset it took more than a year to release the video of the deadly police shooting and more than a year to charge the officer involved. >> while one man did the killing nine people watched it and did not turn in their reports to justify his being arrested. >> some stores locked the doors as the demonstrators lined up but today's protest did remain peaceful. and then the first baltimore police officer going on trial

treated at hospitals in colorado springs and the gunman is surrounded in the lobby of the office building. we know four officers have been hurt and this scene has been playing out multiple times, and a s.w.a.t. team loading a patient into an ambulance. this shooting is prompting the nypd to bolster security around planned parenthood locations in and around new york city. we'll stay on top of it. police need help tonight finding the person who sexually assaulted a woman just blocks from eastern market. this was tuesday night on eighth street. officers say a woman was walking when the woman approached her and robbed her and sexually assaulted her, and the woman suffered minor injuries and there's $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. and then investigators say

robert williams, jr. lost control while coming down capitol hill heights. a man was hit while trying to cross sunset hills road. police blocked traffic to investigate just how this happened. >> reporter: it happened just about 11:00 this morning here on sunset hills road in restin. police say an adult male was crossing the street here when he was struck by this car. according to fairfax county police, the victim sustained critical injuries and is in a local hospital at this moment. the driver of the car did remain on the scene and fairfax county police have called out their accident reconstruction unit, which is only called out for the most serious of accidents. they say at this point no charges have been filed. reporting from restin, mark

first at 5:30, a volatile situation in colorado springs, and there's an active shooting situation. hospitals in colorado springs say they are treating nine people so far. this has been playing out over the course of the last four hours. that gunman reportedly surrounded in the lobby of a planned parenthood office in colorado springs and police believe he is armed with an ak-47. in chicago, many people all but shut down the miracle mile today. it took officials more than a year to charge the officer that killed mcdonald. >> police identified the man they said led officers on a high speed chase from springfield to alexandria. he is facing a number of

carriage arrives at the white house with the official white house christmas tree, and first lady, michelle obama, with the dogs there to greet and receive the fraser fur. it's 8.5-feet tall. it was grown on a farm in pennsylvania, and the tree has a special history and it honors our military servicemen and women. it will be on display in the white house blue room. you'll have a new chance to see the navy's -- there is bo and sunny. the navy times reports the flights will take flight during the fleet week in october. they performed in 2012 and again in 2014 and more recently in our area, the team took their high-flying act near reagan national airport in august. and then closed for the first three months of next year as the national museum of the

our area in recent years and now it has gotten to the point where one county in maryland started checkpoints to curve the problem, and the aclu says it's a constitutional violation of peoples' rights. >> reporter: a sign of the times, the hartford county drug task force set up heroin checkpoints. police targeted major highways including routes 152, 1, 24 and 40. they also focused on hot spot neighborhoods known for heroin use and sales. but unlike dui checkpoints, they allow drivers to proceed at the posted limit. >> it raised huge red flags for me and it sounds like they were trying to do an end run around the fourth amendment.

they handed out two pamphlets, and they want it to interpret the message to drug dealers they are not welcome. >> there have already been 180 heroin overdoses this year. heroin use in montgomery county is also on the rise this year. a report that is due out monday is going to show that there were 20 related heroin deaths in the county in the first six months of the past year and that compares to 33 deaths in all of last year. the use of the heroin overdose antidote is also on the rise. montgomery county firefighters and paramedics say they use naloxone more than one time a day.
