left three police officers damaged in virginia. >> we learned the name of the man accused of taking the police on the ride from springfield. julie carey is live. >> reporter: the suspect hit that circle and made a turn that led to the evened of the chase because he turned on to a dead end street. tonight he identified as zoltan, and tonight he faces a list of charges. the miles-long police chase came to a sudden end in alexandria when the suspect crashed into a tree and fence and was quickly surrounded by the many police vehicles in pursuit. some of the vehicles looked like they had been in a demolition derby along the way. the suspect sped away from the

traffic stop and this is what some of the police communication sounded like as the toyota driver repeatedly struck police cars. >> he struck a fairfax unit several times again. >> at least one unmarked cruiser was left behind here on the eisenhower connecter off the beltway and that's where police boxed him in at the light, and steve procter when he heard the noise. >> when they got to the light, there was a lady sitting right in the -- in front of them and he couldn't go anywhere and they had him boxed in and then the lady moved and he went around the car. >> one officer stepped out of the cruiser and briefly trained a gun on the suspect and then the chase started up again down eisenhower avenue the suspect continued to hit vehicles. >> struck my vehicle again!

>> moments later the suspect crashed his own car, and inside the camry we saw part of the tree hi he hit, and there was a bank withdrawal statement showing he was there shortly before the incident and on the passenger side floor, we spotted a passport. that suspect is in the fairfax county jail and he is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and the crashes along the way, felony speed to elude and that was for the original traffic infraction. we are now hearing from somebody inside the planned parenthood inside of colorado springs that has been under siege now for hours. one sister is in the building and she called while hiding behind a table.

>> she called me and she was telling me about the shooting and i heard the shooting, and she couldn't say too much because she was afraid that those guys, you know -- >> his sister told him to take care of the three children if she did not make it out alive. nine people are being treated at area hospitals in colorado springs and it's not clear how many are civilians because four police officers have been reported hurt. a developing story in chicago tonight. protesters blocked entrances to stores and shut down traffic on chicago's famous magnificent mile shopping area. they are calling for the city's top officials to step down after a deadly police shooting and they say the case was mishandled and is an example of other

issues inside the chicago police department. edward lawrence has the story. >> reporter: hundreds of protesters brave cold temperatures and rain as they demand answers from the police department and mayor. today they wanted what protesters called economic justice. the crowd marched down the magnificent mile disrupting the shoppers. >> we are all here because what affects one community affects us all. >> the protesters want answers of why it took a year to release video and charge a police officer for shooting and killing mcdonald. the video shows mcdonald carrying a knife and walking away from officers, and there's no sound and footage from other police cameras at the scene, also not released. >> release the tapes, all the tapes. >> the police commissioner says his officers has shown restaeupbt but offered a stern

judge ordered him to undergo the psychological evaluation before his court appearance next week. court documents show he was staying in virginia since monday in a letter uncovered by investigators just last night, joe, that he was prepared to die. we are learning more about the 23-year-old connecticut man who scaled the white house fence on thanksgiving. court documents say he was staying in virginia since monday. on his facebook page he posted a picture of himself in front of the white house, and three days later spectators captured these pictures of him jumping over the fence and landing on the north lawn. while the secret service walked him away in handcuffs, he allegedly said he loves his country and knew he was going to be arrested. investigators found a suicide note at the home he was staying at in virginia. it said, quote, death is a natural part of life, rejoice for those around us who

transform in the force. his mother gave him a last will and testament that he prepared and listened to a voice message he left telling his mother something may happen and he may not be able to see her again, and on friday he appeared in court and a judge ordered a psychological evaluation. his family would not answer questions as they walked out of the courthouse, but political leaders like norton has plenty of her own for the secret service. >> did you test this against real high jumpers? suppose there were seven or eight of them at one time? >> the spikes were clearly not enough, so norton says she is requesting a meeting with secret service next week. now, he is facing a federal charge of illegal entry and it comes with a maximum of one year in prison. he is due in federal court on monday.

>> thank you. the holiday shopping season is officially under way. black friday is what we call it, and there are two fights at two different malls last night, and fights we don't know what the motive was, whether they made it or missed out on the big bargains. >> there was a lot of pushing and shoving at this walmart in georgia, and it was so bad police took this video as shoppers scrambled to grab stuff, and there were ten officers there and we are still trying to find out if they arrested anyone. you may not notice anything out of the ordinary as you go shopping from store to store and that's the goal. malls have stepped up security but they don't want you to notice it, but to make your day as normal as possible. and hi, darrick.

and that's rain or shine, warm or cold. >> mark, thank you. a man from fairfax has been critically hurt after a car hit him in restin. the man was trying to cross sunset hills road around 11:00 this morning. he just stepped off the sidewalk when the car hit him. the driver did stay on the scene and this crash is under investigation. police in virginia say they noticed a spike in the number of people trying to steal underwear. the richmond times dispatch reports thieves turn around and try to sell it for drugs. underway is fairly easy to conceal and it turns out it resales for a good price. in one recent case, a woman got away from more than $1,500 in underway, and i may be sitting on a gold mine. getting ready to test out

on your saturday. we will be tracking showers move swa into the area, mainly during the evening hours. most of your saturday dry, however we are looking at plenty of clouds. here's what you can expect tomorrow afternoon. the high temperature in your neighborhood, highs tomorrow in the low to mid-60s. 65 for a high in washington, and manassas and frederick hits a high temperature of 62. if you are in areas like fredricks and leesburg, there could be scattered showers by noontime and here we are at 3:00 p.m., and if you are in the d.c. metro area, it's completely dry during the day and as we move into our saturday evening and overnight hours, showers moving through the area generally light in nature, and however, i think we will still be tracking some areas of rain at that point, otherwise clouds as we move towards the midday hours on sunday and lunchtime at that

new breaking details coming out of colorado at 6:30. police just wrapped up a news conference and said the gunman that opened fire on a planned parenthood office brought bags in with him and bags they will have to check to make sure they don't contain explosives. >> they have been able to evacuate people from the building but they are not sure how many more may still be inside. here's more on the investigation. >> reporter: it started before noon mountain time on a snowy day in colorado springs, colorado. an hour south of denver. police received a call regarding gunfire at a planned parenthood office. >> we received a call of shots fired. we had officers responsibility to the scene and when officers arrived they did encounter active gunfire. >> teams rushed to the shopping center on centennial boulevard, and at least three officers were injured in the shoot-out. police say an unknown number of

some sheriff deputies in virginia will start wearing body cameras next year. the fredericksburg freelance star reports 14 of the cameras were donated to the office for a trial program. earlier this year officials approved a $25,000 grant to approve for 50, and there are competing public safety needs like hiring more resource officers. there's new evidence that living near a busy and noisy road may be linked to depression. people who lived in areas with a lot of traffic had about 25% increased risk for developing depression, but the study does not prove heavy traffic causes depression but it may be a factor. the official christmas tree arrived at the white house today. first lady, michelle obama, came out to receive the fraser fir

back to our breaking news in colorado. nbc news has learned that now at least 12 people have been injured in the shooting at the planned parenthood khreupb nick colorado springs. at least four are police officers. >> we are told s.w.a.t. teams had the shooter surrounded for the past hour and we will follow this through the night and have updates on the app. more coverage kufplicoming up o "nightly news." going against the wishes of the maryland governor, hogan, and he is against resettlement against he gets insurances the refugees post no danger. >> why they decided to split with the state. >> reporter: the residents we spoke with today are divided over inviting syrian refugees. >> i don't think there's any proven statistic or study that says that the terrorists are
