last hour, i have seen a lot more rain move into the area. here is the latest right now. scattered showers in the metro area, but a steadier rain north and west of town. loudoun county, northern montgomery and frederick seeing light rain around the i-81 corridor tracking showers there. all of this will push in in the overnight hours. look at what happens with future weather. 2:00 a.m. will see showers and cloudy skies and tomorrow morning, 6:00 a.m., everybody is dealing with rain in the morning. we will continue to track rain through the mid-morning hours. as we work towards the late morning and midday, showers are more scattered. as we head in, tracking scattered showers and here we are at 1:00 between 2:00 or 3:00. we start to dry out and tomorrow evening is mainly dry. wet roads for the morning and midday tomorrow.

office on the west of colorado springs. police were met with a hail of gunfire. sources say the shooter, robert louis deer fired into a strip mall wounding nine and killing three. >> he said there is an active shooter outside. >> after hours, the gunman holed up gave up and was taken into custody. the colorado springs mayor is among those who praised first responders. >> no question in my mind that we could have had more victims but for the incredible work of the first responders in this case. >> an investigation is under way on what led to the shooting. leanne greg, colorado springs, colorado. >> there was a clear divide on the campaign trail in the wake of the shooting. all of the democratic candidates offered condolences, but on the

everyday heroes. >> so the accident was right here at this pole. >> he shows the curve where an suv ran off the road slamming into a utility pole. he was driving in front of them on route 107 in poolsville thanksgiving night. >> i heard a loud crash behind me. i looked in my rear view mirror and saw the vehicle in mid-air strike the pole and land on its side. >> the suv had what appeared to be power lines draped across it. a pregnant mom and two kids trapped inside. the dad was able to make it out. >> little kids were crying inside the vehicle and i said i got to get them out of there. >> he climbed inside through the sun roof and helped unbuckle the mom and kids and pull the children out. his friends who were visiting from germany helped with the kids. he and the dad helped get the

a disturbing find in a river bed in compton, california. somebody called police after hearing a baby's cry near a bike path. deputies canvassed the area and heard the baby's muffled cry and found the newborn baby girl wrapped in a blanket buried under pieces of rubble. the baby less than 48 hours old was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay, but police need help determining the who and why in this case of abandonment. >> a big spike in the amount

>> police say they have the man suspected of shooting two people. they arrested him and charged him with attempted first and second-degree murder and assault. he shot somebody in the face on copeland street and another person in the stomach on tyler avenue. they arrested him a short time later and he is facing drug possession charges. a new study shows a sharp rise in the number of arrests for pot possession in virginia over the past decade. the report is by the pro legalization group called the drug policy alliance and shows in 2003 over 13,000 people were arrested for marijuana possession in virginia. last year that number almost doubled to 22,900.

shopper track said people spent about $10.5 billion on black friday, down a billion dollars from last year. increased online shopping, extended sales and the weather across the country also contributed to a lack luster black friday. retailers still predict people will spend more overall this holiday season. another factor for the week. black friday sales may be increasing popularity with small business saturday. people were out in alexandria and the u street toridor. they said more than 70% of people will buy some of their gifts at local businesses this year. today is the biggest day of them all. small businesses are working together to drum up business. we talked to a tailor who is becoming a new clothing shop to the neighborhood. >> we worked with them and offered clothes for them. they don't do alterations. that's a great combination.

>> we are still waiting for the exact numbers, but consumers are expected to spend more than $14 billion at small businesses today alone. rain, ice, and snow battering the mid-part of the country today. the large storm system being blamed for more than a dozen deaths. in oklahoma, roads are frozen over, making driving treacherous. tens of thousands are people are in the dark. similar scenes in nebraska and texas still trying to dry out after record flooding. it is making travel difficult on the busiest travel weekend of the year. here in town, the conditions improving for travel later in the day tomorrow. >> if you were thinking about hitting the road early, i would wait until lunchtime or early afternoon hours. you will be waking up to showers and hang out with family a little bit longer. i hope you enjoyed your time in the d.c. metro area. we start to dry out.

i wanted to show you future weather at 10:00 a.m. a lot of us dealing with rain. light to moderate and leading to wet roads. you know what that can do. if you are traveling later in the afternoon, here's what you can expect around 4:00. notice for the most part, the area is dry and temperatures are 49. erica is talking about the large system. you can see in texas and oklahoma and making its way into tennessee. scattered snow showers around the denver area. travel looking okay. especially if you are flying back to the west coast or up and down the east coast. here is the weather headlines. cooler air moves in overnight and greets us tomorrow morning. it will stick around for the upcoming workweek and more rain for the workweek. wait until you see the seven-day. keep it handy through wednesday. tomorrow we will see the weather having a moderate impact because

it is a huge travel day. we are dealing with rain showers during the first half of the day and cooler temperatures. our highs today in the 60s and tomorrow temperatures around 50 from start to finish. the sunday outlook thinking about getting the christmas tree, hold off. it will be damp and cool. next weekend is looking dry and temps not too bad. if you can put it off, i would recommend it. travel we are dealing with wet roads during the first half of the day. 7:00 a.m., showers for everybody and temperature around 51. look at the temperatures. 11:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. we work our way towards the midday hours. 2:00, most of us are dry. still showers and by 6:00 p.m., everybody is dry and mostly cloudy skies. the redskins are at home taking on the giants with the kickoff at 1:00 p.m. showers possible around kickoff
