shamari stone outside the school? northwest d.c. tell uses what eye found out so far. >> reporter: good evening, first let's let our viewers know there is no threat against woodrow wilson high school. the student who allegedly brought the gun to school is in custody right now and police have found the gun. but there are definitely some unanswered questions. let's roll some video right now. they're trying to figure out how the student was able to make it past the security guard, a metal detector and a bag search with the gun. we also learned according to a school spokesperson he actually made it into the classroom with the gun. now, sources tell news 4 that he allegedly showed the gun to a classmate who took pictures and posted the pictures on snapchat. somehow, school officials were monitoring snapchat, they saw the gun, they confronted the boy who allegedly brought it into the school and they removed him. they found the gun in his backpack and they also removed the girl who allegedly posted pictures of the gun on snapchat. now, the building was evacuated 90 minutes later.

there were some after-school activities. students tell me that those activities have been canceled and they came out here and they're now on their way home. but, again, no immediate threat to woodrow wilson high school, but school officials are trying to determine how this student was able to bring the gun past all the security measures here at the school. live in northwest d.c., shomari stone, news 4. >> thanks. we have a lot to get to, but first let's get you caught up on the weather. >> yeah, the radar behind us all lit up in green as you can see. chief meteorologist doug kammerer is in the storm center. so green means rain, doug. >> normally green means go, but not in this case. it means slow. we've had the rain, we've had the umbrellas out. we're still dealing with rain in parts of the area. notice most of the region on the drier side now. that's some really good news from d.c. down toward fredericksburg, warrenton, leesburg. the evening rush may get off to a better start though the roads are wet. the rain up toward the north,

montgomery county, howard county. it does continue to move to the north but the wider view shows even more rain down to the south. we are in a nice little moisture train here. that moisture coming right off of the pacific ocean and the gulf of mexico. and we'll continue to see that moisture moving in right on through the night tonight and right on into the day tomorrow, too. we could even see heavy rain. what to expect through the day. periods of rain. heaviest will be early on your wednesday. most likely before noon tomorrow is when we see the heaviest. bring the umbrella, keep it with you. twoo we're going to need it through the night tonight and into the day tomorrow, too. we're going to talk about the temperatures coming up next. they'll be on the rise overnight tonight. what that means for later this week once the rain finally moves out. i'm mark segraves at the live desk with an update to one of the most readcbyvx stories o washington today. two people in custody accused of robbing a bank in oldtown alexandria at the pnc bank at the corner of north washington street at 10:00 a.m.

both men had guns. alexandria officials quickly locked down several schools in the oldtown potomac yard area. officials caught up with the suspects south of the target in potomac yard. police i.d.'d the suspects. both are 40 years old and both are charged now with armed robbery. chris, back to you. >> thanks, mark. o'in montgomery county poli are following up on new clues as they search for a woman suspected of a home invasion. police released pictures of a woman they say tied up a 74-year-old man in his home in kensington. she robbed him of his credit cards and cash a few weeks ago. two other people have been using those stolen cards. detectives are looking for them as well. pat collins sat down with the man who was robbed. you're going to hear from him tonight at 5:00. an electrical fire hurt a map in north potomac on settlers landing way. one man is being treated for smoke inhalation. the fire started in an electrical panel in the home's

bamt basement. damage is estimated to be around half a million dollars. first at 4:00, it took a long time to get somebody in the job, but metro's new leader is telling us how he's adjusting to his new position. >> paul wedefeld sat down with adam tuss for his first one-on-one tv interview today. he talked about restoring safe in the metro system and making sure metro employees treat each other with respect. wedefeld also said he very clearly has understood rider complaints. >> what do you want to tell people? i mean, are you asking for their patience or what do you want to tell people? >> you know, i don't want to ask for their patience. because, you know, i think they have been patient. i want to tell them i understand their frustrations, i want to let them know that i'm working around the clock to make it better. >> wedefeld tackled a host of issues in that interview including how he feels about social media and where he will

be living. more on that coming up in our next hour and on the nbc washington app. the district is one step closer to outfitting every police officer with a body camera and the officers could be wearing them by march. today the d.c. council gave unanimous approval to mayor muriel bowser's body cam legislation. this is just the first vote and has to go to a second maybe later this month. the mayor and council did reach an agreement that will allow the public to see most of the images caught by the cameras. a baltimore judge is considering a new panel of people for the first trial in the death of freddie gray. william porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter. news 4's chris gordon has sat at the court today. he joins us with the developments on day two. chris? >> reporter: when you say a new panel, there was a panel yesterday and then one today, so they could get approximately 150 jurors to screen. that's what they're doing now, finishing up the froprocess. it is expected tomorrow the jury of 12 will be selected and this

trial could begin with opening statements. now, baltimore police officer william porter is charged with manslaughter and assault in the death of freddie gray. he is the first of six police officers to stand trial. porter was not the office who arrested kb eed gray or the dri the van in which gray reportedly suffered spinal injuries but during the investigation porter made statements. our legal analyst thinks that's why officer porter is being tried first. >> so the prosecution would like to be able to introduce those statements at his trial as well as make them available against other police officers. >> reporter: all new at 5:00, we'll hear what officer porter did that resulted in prosecutors charging him with involuntary manslaughter. that's coming up on news 4 at 5:00. pat, back to you. >> all right, chris.

and now your storm team 4 forecast. >> another day of wet weather. day four here with dreary conditions. more rain moving through. take a look at storm team 4 radar. see right now up around i-70, howard county, moving up there i-95 toward baltimore, that's where the bulk of the rain is right now, but we are far from being done. there's a lot more rain to the south and west. coming through areas of carolinas and just into southwest virginia. that's the rain that we're going to have during the overnight. and certainly throughout the day tomorrow as this system will be making its way finally in and through our area. so for the morning drive, in terms of road impacts, rain is likely. so we've got the caution light there. by midday, still, cautionary as the rain starts to taper then the rain should be ending during the evening hours i think by around 6:00 or 7:00 and you'll notice our temperatures overnight, early morning, going up. so it's not going to be all that cold. doug's got more on that coming up. >> all right, v.j. all this rain has forced the

now at 4:15, a change at the top for chicago police. mayor rahm emanuel asked superintendent garry mccarthy to resign today just a week after the release of video that showed an officer killing a teenager by shooting him 16 times. emanuel praised ma ed mccarthy' record but says it's time for fresh eyes and leadership. he made a task force to review current policies and procedures. we're going to hear to the superintendent when we go to chicago in our next half hour. president obama says parts of the global climate agreement being hammered out right now in paris should be legal lly bindi to hold countries more accountable. >> the president also used the global platform to get more backing for the fight against isis. nbc's kelly o'donnell reports from paris. >> reporter: capping his brief paris trip with a news

conference. >> you always want to stay a little bit longer. >> reporter: president obama said he is confident other nations aren't stepping up in the fight against isis. >> we've got to choke them off. we have to check off how they make money, we got to choke off their ability to bring in new fighters. >> reporter: after meeting with turkey's president today, obama said despite progress, turkey must seal its borders to block isis fighters from reaching the west. on russia, the kremlin released a photo of a brief putin/obama meeting here, while today the president said russia remains slow to target only isis in syria. >> i don't expect that you're going to see a 180 turn on their strategy over the next several weeks. >> reporter: reacting on camera for the first time after the colorado shooting at a planned parenthood clinic, president defended the organization's mission then focused on american gun violence. >> i say this every time we've got one of these mass shootings.

this just doesn't happen in other countries. >> reporter: asked about the future viability of any climate change deal reached here in paris with a new president, obama let his inner pundit come out. >> i'm anticipating a democrat succeeding me. i'm confident in the wisdom of the american people on that front. >> reporter: the president headed back to washington right after that news conference where he also said intelligence needs to improve to better identify isis targets. taking a shot at washington, the president said that too often american leadership is defined by sending in troops and not enough given to the idea that the u.s. can build international support. i'm kelly o'donnell in paris, back to you. the united states is sending more special forces to iraq and syria to help fight isis. the defense secretary ash carter made the announcement today. he told a house armed services committee that over time the special ops teams will be able

to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture isis leaders. >> we are gathering momentum, and it is a fact that the territory under isil's control has shrunk. that's not a declaration -- >> you've indicated that it's war. are we winning, mr. secretary? >> we will win. >> are we winning now? >> we're going to win. >> carter didn't give details about the number of troops, only that it would be more than 50 people. right now, there are about 3,500 u.s. troops in iraq. president obama has already sent a small number of special operations forces to syria. these solar panels on top of the wilson building have been here for a few years as part of a pilot program, but today mayor muriel bowser announced she's expanding that program to more than 50 buildings across the district. she says by the time it's done at the end of next year, it will increase the amount of solar

power generated here in the district by 70%. it will create nearly 100 new jobs and over the course of 20 years it will save d.c. taxpayers nearly $30 million. bowser is sending a team to paris for the climate change conference where the district is up for a coveted award for being one of the greenest cities in the nation. from the roof of the wilson building, mark segraves, news 4. for a fifth straight day, beijing is engulfed in a wave of smog and it's choking china's capital. the smog is so thick it's erasing the city's skyline and breaking records. the pollution level is now 35 times higher than what experts consider safe to breathe. schools are keeping students indoors. people are wearing face masks outside. and hospitals are packed with patients having breathing problems. ironically, china's president is in paris right now attending that climate change performance with other world leaders. >> could use a little bit of rain to wash some of that pollution away. >> yeah, tell you, doug, they

would love to have what we've been having the last in 24 hours. >> it's really what they're putting into the atmosphere that's bringing that down, pollutants that continue to be out there. for us we're dealing with the rain that continues and most of us right now seeing a drying trend to the rain. let's look out toward reston. see the clouds remain. the rain is actually out of here. that's very good news for the evening commute. the roads still going to be on the wet side. we'll start to see drying for the roads over the next one to two hours. downtown, same deal. dealing with the cloud cover across the area. most of the rain moving off to the north and east. this is different. look at our wind now out of the southwest at 9 miles an hour. that's normally a warmer wind. we do expect temperatures to warm over the next couple of hours. up to 48 down toward fredericksburg. 53 right now toward the river. to the west, 42. look at stanton, virginia, up to 50 now. that's the first area to our southwest that's seeing some of that warming and we do see warmer weather coming with the next area of rain. see what we've seen over the last four hours. a lot of rain earlier today then

it just kind of gets out of here as it makes its way up. now we're still going to continue to watch this rain move on in. still a few showers coming around town but the heaviest rain up toward baltimore. noe notice back behind here we're looking at more rain. there's the wave we saw this morning. he here's another way down to the south making its way our way, too. look at this area of low pressure bringing snow toward places like minnesota. that's allowing all this moisture to move into our area. we're going to continue to see this rain. through the night tonight around 11:00 tonight, still see shower activity around, but no real steady rain until tomorrow morning. here we are at 7:00 a.m. not too bad for the morning rush. by around 10:00, 11:00, everybody gets back in on the action. tomorrow a wet day through the early portionst portion of the afternoon. high temperatures tomorrow, warmer. 62 degrees with the rain. much cooler, still very nice weather thursday, friday and saturday. we'll see some sunshine. high temperatures into the low 50s. much more coming up as far as the rest of the weekend goes at

it's a little better than it was yesterday. temperatures are a little higher. we don't have quite as much rain falling, but it's still wet out there. and if you're going out, still chilly. so you're still going to need the jacket and the rain gear. umbrella for sure. this evening, well, our temperatures not in the 30s but we're into the 40s. 50s.

and rising during the overnight period. you can see showers around the area mainly to the north and just a few off to the west. there's a lot more that's going to be moving in this evening. see here as we widen out, show you the big view, down through areas of virginia, north carolina, more moderate rain there. that's what's going to come our way by early tomorrow morning and through midday. visibilities also will be dropping. not that bad now. they're over ten miles. late evening we drop to around a mile, and then by early tomorrow morning, the visibility goes to under a mile. so from spotty problems to slow travel for the morning rush, in just a few minutes, doug has your bus stop forecast coming up. we've got some cold days ahead, and that means you're going to be turning up that thermostat more. for some folks affording a warm house can be a bit of a challenge. news 4's kristen wright takes a look at some options for tackling a big heating bill on a budget. >> reporter: multiple winter storms are expected. that means energy use will go up

as we try to stay warm and spend more time in the house. there are several programs to help people who cannot afford their heating bills. one, through pepco, is budget billing where you split your bills into equal payments throughout the year. also there's federal and local and state assistance. and special payment plans like this one from pepco. >> we have an extended payment date plan. some of our residential customers whose main source of household income is from a government or other low-income entitlement program, those customers can request an extension of their regular bill due date without incurring the late charge so that the bill due date will coincide and align with the date that they get their checks. >> reporter: pepco also adding today that people should fully expect that there will be outages but they say they are fully prepared in terms of manpower and resources to handle it. in northwest, kristen wright,

news 4. well, dr. ben carson may be downplaying his decline, but there has definitely been a shakeup in the race for the white house. senators marco rubio and ted cruz have passed carson in some republican polls. donald trump is not only still on top, he's demanding $5 million to show up for the next debate. steve handelsman is live on capitol hill. steve, what are you hearing? >> reporter: let's talk about ben carson. hi, chris. first came the questions about the johns hopkins doctor's life story, then came the isis attacks in paris. whether there's a connection or not, the doctor who once led the republican polling no longer does. it's a roller coaster for ben carson. on top in gop polls a month ago, he's now second, his gains erased. this was today. >> well, you know, poll numbers will go up and down, you know, it's a marathon, it's not a sprint. >> reporter: seven points behind donald trump on october 1st carson rose to a tie in mid-november, then trump's

support hit a high and so did marco rubio's and ted cruz's, while the newcomer's, carson's support sagged. after the isis attacks in paris. chris christie today. >> it was great. you need experience when the tough moment comes. >> reporter: carson visited syrian refugees in jordan and said today, we should help them there, not bring them to the u.s. >> why do things that just make people feel good and say that we've done something? >> reporter: rubio running second now in new hampshire is playing up his youth. ted cruz in iowa mocked the charge that he'd cut access to birth control. >> last i checked, we don't have a rubber shortage in america. >> reporter: donald trump warned cnn about the next republican face-off december 15th. >> i won't do the debate unless they pay me $5 million, all of which money goes to the wounded warriors or go to vets. >> reporter: the billionaire

said he might debate, worried he'd be called a chicken if he doesn't. but trump tops the pecking order in republican polls. first in iowa, where they vote two months from today, first in new hampshire and south carolina where they vote next. i'm steve handelsman, news 4. >> thanks, steve. going to take you live now to the white house where you'll get a look at a large red ribbon on display an the north side to commemorate world aids day. this is a live picture. the administration says there are nearly 37 million people worldwide living with hiv including more than a million here in the u.s. also here in the district, mayor bowser signed onto a pledge to end the hiv/aids epidemic by the year 2030. that pledge is sponsored by the united nations and has support from cities, states and countries around the world. >> there are still people who aren't getting the care they need and there are still people who think maybe it won't happen

and now your storm team 4 forecast. >> and take a look at storm team 4 radar right now. most of the area on the dry side. you can see most of the rain moving up toward the baltimore area. there's a few more showers back to the west back around petersburg, west virginia, and there more showers on the way. right now the only game in town, couple of showers down here toward the south. we're looking just south of washington around the waldorf area. these will make their way to the north of walwaldorf, around clin in the next 20 minutes. this is what's coming, down from the southwest right through parts of our area. that's going to be that moisture train that we continue to see come on in through the overnight hours into the day tomorrow. so you'll need the umbrellas once again all day tomorrow. for the most part. especially early. showers between 7:00 and 8:00. temperatures around 54 degrees. temperatures will rise tomorrow with a southwesterly wind. winds, temperatures up to about 63 degrees between 3:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon. heaviest rain coming around 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 tomorrow. we'll have much more on that.

veronica will be back in just about five minutes with the latest on that forecast. those are police officers showing the season of giving when a little boy needed it most. he had his xbox stolen during a burglary at his family's home over the weekend. he's only 11 years old. when he told the officers his money didn't have the money to replace it, the members of the force all chipped in, bought him a new one. >> just to be able to alleviate some of his stress, just for that day and actually help that family in this time, like christmas, it really was an overwhelming feeling. >> the video you just saw of the boy's reaction, that's gone viral on facebook. and officers say the little boy was actually more concerned about his mom than the stolen xbox, and that's kind of what impressed them the most. >> what a story. >> yeah. very cool officers there. >> happy little boy. >> yeah. that's right. speaking of the season, you probably started hearing the salvation army bells outside grocery stores but we know one

branch that won't have to worry about reaching its donation goal. >> you can say that again. a couple from minneapolis from a suburb in minneapolis dropped in a check for half a million dollars. >> wow. >> the couple wants to remain anonymous so we can't tell you who they are but they did reveal what's behind this big gift. as a young couple, they say they had to rely on discarded food from a grocery store to survive, so now they can afford to help others. the salvation army in minnesota gave groceries to more than 100,000 people this year. and we're also following that breaking news in northwest d.c. where a gun was found inside wilson high school. what we just learned about this case. and chicago's police chief fired. it comes after the shooting death of a teenager at the hands of a police officer. the full story coming up.

right now, police are trying to figure out how a gun made it into wilson high school in northwest d.c. >> here's what we know right now. police believe the student made it past metal detecters and a security bag check at the entrance of the school. authorities moved in after the student allegedly showed the gun to another student. a female student. and she allegedly posted a picture on snapchat. security detained and questioned both students. school officials say the school is safe and no one was hurt, but after-school activities have been canceled for the rest of the day. for the second straight day, a chilly rain is falling in and around the nation's capital. steady showers all day long.

it's definitely not letting up. storm team 4's been tracking this storm. meteorologist veronica johnson is going to join us in a couple minutes with an update. chicago's top cop is out of a job. >> yeah, he was fired by chicago's mayor after those protests that all sort of spun out of that young teenager's shooting death, and it was caught on video. nbc's chris clackum has more. >> reporter: ever since last week's release of the video showing officer jason van dyke shooting 17-year-old laquan mcdonald calls for chicago police superintendent garry manage carthy's resignation have been constant. mayor rahm emanuel made it officially tuesday. >> i formally asked for his resignation. he has become an issue rather than dealing with the issue earlier on tuesday in an interview with wmax mccarthy

defended his actions. >> i didn't have the authority to do what people naught i should have done. >> reporter: also admitted a release on the day of the shooting saying van dyke fired on mcdonald 16 times only after the teenager lunged at officers was wrong. >> the initial press release was mistaken, no two ways about it. i guess that's my fault. i'm accountable for it. >> reporter: mccarthy said in the 14 months since the shooting he never corrected that information because the feds had taken over the investigation. >> 16 shots! >> reporter: critics say that's more evidence of a police cover-up. an accusation bolstered by missing surveillance video from a nearby burger king, as well as missing audio from dashcam video of the shooting. mccarthy's dismissal comes the morning after van dyke was released on bond to prepare his defense on first-degree murder charges. chris clackum, nbc news. new video just into the newsroom shows oscar pistorius on his first day of community service in south africa. he arrived at a police station

wearing a hat and sunglasses. his first appearance after paroled in october. pistorius was convicted of manslaughter for shooting his girlfriend reeva steenkamp and is serving most of his sentence under house arrest. state prosecutors are trying to get him convicted of murder and sent back to jail and we just learned the supreme court of appeals will announce its verdict on thursday. we are looking several developing stories in our newsroom right now. prince george's county police officer on trial today for holding a gun to a man's head and mouth. officer santiago is charged with assault and misconduct in the incident which was recorded with a cell phone. it happened outside a home in buoy back in may of 2014. coming up in our next hour, prince george's county bureau chief tracee wilkins has the latest on what happened in court and what the officer's defense will be. we're learning more details tonight about how metro's new general manager plans to fix the troubled transit agency. paul wedefeld tells news 4 transportation reporter adam tuss he understands riders are

frustrated and in his his first sit-down television interview he talks about restoring faith in the system. find out how he plans to do that ahead at 5:00. i'm mark segraves in the newsroom with new developments on the airasia plane crash which happened a year ago this month. indonesian investigators say a faulty rudder control system and the pilot's response led to the crash into the java sea. investigators say the rudder system on the plane had problems 23 problems in the year before the crash. they also say the plane warned pilots several times during the ill-fated flight. the pilots tried to reset the system which caused the plane to stall and plunge into the sea. investigators also believe there may have been confusion between the pilot and co-pilot while one said to, quote, pull down, the plane was actually ascending. bad weather did not contribute to the crash. in the newsroom, mark segraves, news 4. i'm pat collins in kensington. the home of a 74-year-old

and out ahead of this front there's a lot of warm air. that's what's going to be moving in, and right through our area during the overnight period. so our temperatures are actually going to be going up during the overnight. mt. vernon, ft. washington, a shower there. it's all sliding to the north-northeast toward bellview, areas toward 2010 and eventually camp springs. very light rain here for the evening. i think even past midnight we're going to have just some scattered light showers around the area. different story for tomorrow morning. back to the umbrella, back to the jackets for sure. you can see our temperatures are going to be in the 40s. low and mid 50s across the area. so rising but still on the chilly side. and all this white that you see on the map from areas of frederick down toward d.c., even around fredericksburg, they're all under a mild air, manassas, culpeper, gaithersburg, that's some visibility for early tomorrow morning. so dense fog likely around the area. we may even see a fog advisory issued. we're going to stay on top of that as well. moderate rain for early tomorrow morning.

even some pockets for the afternoon of moderate rain left. i think it all starts to taper around 2:00, 3:00. then finally end tomorrow evening, but you know we've gotten quite a bit already, over a half inch. we could see another half inch, all these areas in blue covering most of the area through d.c., right across areas of 66 then areas of southern maryland, northern neck could pick up another inch of rain over the next 24 hours. here's some of the heaviest moving in. you can see it. i'll stop it here at noon, lunchtime. from frederick down toward warr warrenton, fredericksburg. that's moderate rain that's going to be moving into our area. that really is the next significant change you're going to sense. 11:00 a.m., noon, rain to moderate rain areawide coming through. temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s tomorrow afternoon. so that rain, again, continues for tomorrow afternoon. areas south, fredericksburg, stafford, even culpeper could top out in the mid 60s for tomorrow. the weekend is much cooler again, a pretty day coming our way on saturday. seasonably cool at 53.

chilly, brisk, and wet. right now we're tracking the showers that have been falling on our area for more than a day now. and we're not out of the woods yet. doug's forecast coming up in just a few minutes on news 4 at 5:00. this video shows the moment of a big explosion near a metro station in turkey today. at least five people were injured. the blast was caused by a pipe bomb, according to the mayor of istanbul where it happened. the bomb went off near the height of rush hour. train service in istanbul has been stopped for the rest of the day. no one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing. in the week that missouri students walked out in protest over the race relations on campus, ithaca college students followed, and then students on campuses around the country including howard stood in

solidarity with missouri and ithaca. as samantha german reports, now there's a question over whether a second college president will lose his job. >> so the result of the vote of no confidence are 71.75% over -- [ applause ] >> reporter: there were cheers as the final result of 26 days of online voting came to an end. >> when 70% of your students at a college have no confidence in you, that's an eye opener. i'm definitely expecting him -- i don't expect him to resign. i don't think thooel he'll do t. i expect him to come forward with new rules and active mindset toward this problem we have on campus. >> reporter: last month students had a walkout on campus to express frustrations over who they say was a lack of relationship from the president over racially charged incidents. students say after the protests, there's been a lot of activity of people who support president roshaun and from those who don't. >> as these conversations are

happening, there's a lot of opposition, you know, from the other side, from people who don't understand, people who don't see the issues. >> it's a situation that directly affects all of us and i'm off campus, but this is a fight that we've been fighting going on four years. >> reporter: the no-confidence vote was largely symbolic. the ithaca college board of trustees is the only board authorized to take action against the president. >> i don't think this vote se y solely will be what gets him out of office but a demonstration of how the students and faculty feels about him. news 4 at 5:00 begins with breaking news. we have live coverage in the district where a student brought a gun to school in a backpack. news 4's shomari stone is at wilson high school where security protocols are being

reviewed. shomari? >> reporter: that's right. moments ago i talked to a concerned mother and she is wondering how this student was able to allegedly bring this gun into the school. school officials tell us that no one was hurt, and there is no immediate threat against wilson high school. but, of course, there are unanswered questions. let's roll some video. number one, folks want to know how is this student able to bring the gun in, but also, where did he get the gun? he was able to get past security guards, a metal detector, and a bag search. d.c. school officials say he was also able to make it into the classroom with the gun. now you're probably asking yourself how did school officials find out about this? well, sources tell news 4 that the student showed a gun to the classmate. that classmate allegedly took cell phone pictures of it and posted it on snapchat. now, school officials somehow saw those pics and confronted the student and allegedly found the gun in his backpack. they took him and the girl who allegedly posted the pictures into custody. we talked to some students moments ago. here's what they have to say.

>> to me it's just shocking. and partly, i don't know who's to blame really, but that's -- it's definitely something that should be investigated and looked -- >> normally the security guards they take, like, even glass things. they take, like, perform and glass and anything, and, like, somehow they just, like, let a gun slip by? like, that doesn't make sense at all. >> reporter: that's exactly what people are saying, that this whole thing doesn't make sense. some parents are outraged and they demand answers from principal kimberly martin. she issued a letter basically explaining what happened, but also saying that this incident is under investigation. live here at woodrow wilson high school in northwest d.c., shomari stone, news 4. and we continue to track the rain as we make our way through the rest of the evening. the good news is the bulk of the rain has actually moved out for the time being. now we're going to see more moving in later on this evening. let's show you storm team 4
