14 people died at a holiday party. more than a dozen others were hurt as well. "news4's" molette green is following latest developments from the live desk. mollet? >> aaron, new information this morning giving us a clearer picture of the two suspects while a motive is still unclear. both died in a gun battle with police on a san bernardino street. overnight we learned their names. 28-year-old sigh ian rizwan farook and his 27-year-old wife tashfeen malik. now, farook reportedly grew out his beard, traveled to saudi arabia in the spring, stayed there for about a month and returned with a wife. now, the come had a 6-month-old daughter. farook was raised in southern california, we've learned. his family is originally from pakistan. this morning police are searching their home and they have not ruled out terrorism as a motive. that is the latest.

eun? >> thank you, molette. it's now 6:02. the attack is the deadliest shooting in the u.s. since the sandy hook shooting. 17 people were hurt in that shooting. nearby loma linda hospital took in five patients. two of them are in critical but stable condition this morning. paramedics rushed six other patients to arrowhead medical center. one of those patients has already been dischallenged. the center is a huge complex. more than 600 employees there. it sevens tens of thousands of people with developmental disabilities including those with autism, cerebral palsy, d

and. coming up in ten minutes more reaction to the shooting from d.c.'s police chief including what she say use can do if you find yourself in an active shooter situation. today an important step in the feature of i-66. governor terry mcccawe if wantso put toll lanes in but how would they use the money? "news4's" derrick ward is live in fairfax county with more on the actions being taken on this issue. derrick, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning. you're looking at i-66 eastbound, a typical scene for this important roadway through northern virginia, but now there are plans to alleviate some of this backup. and some of the backup may be alleviated inside the beltway with toll lanes. this is a unique proposal because they're going to be adding tolls but no lanes. just designated toll lanes.

they're talking about adding more and later today the northern virginia transportation commission will meet to determine how to best spend the revenue from those tolls. there's some projections floating out about how much revenue this will generate and what exactly can be done. road improvement, alleviate some of the taxes. all of that will be on the table later today when this northern virginia transportation commission meets. they're expected to begin some of the work on the toll lanes inside and outside the beltway this summer. it's the new designation of tolls could be in place by the summer of 2017. the end of this month they will have to come up with a plan. coming up on five minutes after the hour. testimony will begin with the trial of a baltimore police officer. in their opening statement

yesterday. prosecutors focused on what officer william porter did not do, which is call for a med whoik might have saved gray's life. they also say porter should have put a seatbelt on gray in the back of the police van. they say he didn't knowing the policy. he died while in price custody. 6:05. there will be classes at blade ens burlg high school. the bomb threat ended up being a hoax. someone called in right as school was to be let out. they searched five floors and found a suspicious backpack. the backpack had what appeared to be wires sticking out of it. no threat, no bomb. they'll continue their investigation into who made the focus call. >> it's the first ever street harassment hearing. it's a chance to try to come up to a solution with the harassment they may have experienced.

developing right now, australia is stepping up its

search efforts to find missing malaysia airline flight 370. so far it's focused on a 46,000-square-foot area on the sea floor in the remote indian ocean. that's where it's believed to have gone down. it's equipped with a video camera. it can examine rough terrain. the flight went missing with 239 passenger and crew on board in march of 2014. three children were involved in a crash with a tractor trailer in frederick county maryland. they were inside an suv that rear-ended the truck at a rest area on eastbound i-70 in myersville. the suv driver died. another woman, a 2-year-old, a 10- and 6-month-old all went to the hospital. the driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt. coming up on 6:11. your "weather & traffic on the 1s" not featuring any rain today. how about that. >> we're going to see sunshine too. >> i don't know if i can handle it. >> "storm team 4" meteorologist

suspects. a lot of people are talking. the cover to the new york daily news is in direct response to the news of the shooting in california and how politicians are talking. the tight sl "god isn't fixing this" along with tweets sending their prayers. they say politicians could do something about all the mass shootings that have happened. d.c. police chief said she stands by what she said about what you can do if there's an active shooter. police chief cathy lanier talked about it. they went over the options during an active shooting drill. chief lanier said you can run, hide, our fight. >> you've got really three options if this happens.one, ru. two, hide, barricade yourself behind a locked door if you can. but if there's no other alternative, you d kent get out, you can't hide, your other

option is to fight. mayor muriel bowser was at that meeting shchl e said even the best police officers often get to shooting scenes after everyone is shoot. developing overnight a scathing new report calls the secret service an agency in crisis. got our hands on this report a couple of hours ago. it's 438 pages from a house panel who found the agency is understaffed and agents are overworked. they blame leadership falgs. they detail half a dozen previously undisclosed security breaches since 2013. the members of congress blasting them after they say the agency spent millions of dollars. the pentagon spent almost $100 million renting private villas for staff and visitors in afghanistan. they say if they had juiced already existing government housing it would have saved taxpayers millions. the report also says $43 million was spent on gas station that should have only cost $500,000.

6:18. man is in custody after trying to take a loaded handgun into the building on u.s. capitol grounds. police arrested christopher carter during a security check yesterday. they found this is the 11th time this has happened so far this year. carpenter is an employee with the senate sergeant at arms and does not have a permit to carry a gun. another man in police custody after a stabbing at a maryland shopping plaza. eric sin kay is accused of stabbing two men. 11 stores were shut down for several hours. both vick tames taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police say the victims and suspect know each other. a woman was charged with misdemeanor sexual abuse in the october incident. in return for the plea, the u.s. attorney's office won't indict knight on two felony charges that earlier were also filed against her.

14 families grieving today from the mass shooting in san bernardino, california. police have another conference to tell us more about what happened. the big question, the motive behind the attacks. right now what we know is that the suspected shooters were a couple and that the husband worked at the social services center in san bernardino. >> the 17 people who were hurt

f.m. for all the traffic and weather on the dates. it's now 6:46. testimony will begin in the trial in the baltimore police officer charging in the manslaughter of freddie gray. they say porter should have put a seatbelt on gray in the back of a police van. the defense says porter did not know about a policy requiring suspects to be put on seatbelts. there will be classes at bladensburg high school. a bomb threat ended up being a hoax. prince george's county officers searched five floors and found a suspicious backpack. the back pack had what appears to be wires sticking out of it. the bomb squad determined there was no threat and no bomb.

's moving pretty freely. last time there was a bit of backup because of a stalled car, but it's all about alleviating the traffic jams that are so common on i- 66 especially inside the beltway. the big decision as you said will be made later today. right now there's an 80 have hov lane. there could be tolls now -- i'm sorry. there are hov lanes. there could be toll lanes

coming. those tolls could be between $7 and $9. $7 for the a.m. rush eastbound and 9 dollars for the p.m. rush westbound. car poolers with two passengers very more would be able to ride for free. but in 2022, that could change to three, a three-person requirement to ride with three. the big deal is they're not adding any lanes right now but they're going to be looking at this later to see if the demand actually increases with the tolls and then they might well consider widening inside the beltway, but the northern virginia commission will meet later today to decide how best to dole out the revenue. it could go anywhere from metro along the i 66 corridor. big decision to be made for some time to come. derrick ward, "news4," back to you. a 12-year-old girl is missing in dc right now.

rather than a refugee. response is sflit along the lines. 68% would accept refugees. 84% of republicans said no. a whopping 83% said a major terrorist attack in this country in the near future is very likely or somewhat likely. we're hearing new sound this morning from the shoot-out between police and the suspects in san bernardino county. this scene took place in the middle of a neighborhood in red lands, california, yesterday afternoon. neighbor taking shelter recorded the sounds of the gunfight. take a listen. >> the suspect died in that shoot-out. police say the married impeachment killed 14 inside the inland regional center. police do not have a motive for the mass shoot being u have not ruled out terrorism. >> this attack is the deadliest shooting since the sandy hook school massacre in connecticut.

gunfire erupted at an office party around 11:00 a.m. 17 people hurt in that shooting. nearby loma linda hospital got fever of the paretients. circumstance others were rushed to arrowhead regional center. the hospital has not released the information on the other five. now, this shooting happened inside one of the largest nonprofits in california. the inland regional center is a huge complex. more than 600 employees there. it serves tens of thousands of people with developmental disabilities including those with autism, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy. the shooting happened inside a conference room during an office party. the suspected shooter was a county employee. right now investigators are working to figure out why that employee and his wife killed 14 people. police say the couple were well prepared when they stormed inside the building yesterday afternoon.

nbc's jay gray continues our coverage inside san bernardino with more on the investigation. jay, good morning. >> good morning to you. police say they had planned this for quite some time. the 6-month-old daughter left with grand mother. they told the grandmother they had a doctor's appointment and that's why they left the granddaughter there before this attack here. we know that they were heavily armed with assault rifles as well as as semiautomatic pistols and home made explosives according to police. those had to be disarm at the point before officers could actually get inside and begin inner northwest their investigation at the scene here. likely married for two years we know the husband in the attack had been a county employee, worked for the county for five years. was at a holiday party when he left abruptly.
